Isn't the "clear direction" win, or you're gone.?
If you Jimmer it, they will come.
To the Monty apologists..... i get it... you still think it's cool to be a non-conformist, go against the grain.... pull for the underdog.... To each their own. However, on a strictly basketball level, Monty is clearly not a head coach.
1) What has he done to deserve 4 years of "get out of jail free cards." Has he ever had success as a HEAD COACH?? With the Pels or without? (rhetorical) FYI The 2011 team was loaded; CP3 and a healthy D.West is 40 wins in the books with me coaching......but but, he is on the olympic team --- yes he is, in the role he is qualified for.
2) Anthony Davis is not LaMarcus Aldridge.... stop trying to make him a stretch 4! How many super athletic stretch 4's are there? His game should be developing inside - out, not the reverse. He has a baby hook through the lane that looks nice.. and thats it. AD clearly prefers to go left, but we always set him up on the wrong block???? There does not appear to be many set plays for AD or honestly just any set plays FOR ANYONE in general. Our offensive scheme is a joke. Even our announcers repeatedly comment on how we cannot run a simple play out of a time out.
3) Defense - LOL. "We are a defensive minded team with a defensive minded coach." Sorry, I'm laughing too much to add anything else here.
4) Substitutions - seriously , barring foul trouble, I can close my eyes and tell you exactly who will come in at exactly what time. He has switched AD's pattern over the last week so maybe he is finally trying to adapt, but a real coach goes with the game flow and not on a rigorously timed schedule.
5) Monty mic'd up - embarrassing. Is he the head coach or a cheerleader? Being positive is great. BUT HOW ABOUT SOME ACTUAL INSTRUCTION AND INSIGHT. "Ok guys, we need to play better defense." "Ok guys, we need to play hard" "Ok guys.... to win a game of basketball the scoreboard needs to show pelicans with more points than wizards".. He coaches EXACTLY like he gives interviews... nothing but cliches and zero substance.
With all of that said. I do believe that Monty knows basketball, and that he is a GREAT teacher. However, I also believe that he is not a great leader, does not make quick decisions, and just cannot manage a game. I believe he has a bright future as a lead assistant and maybe with MANY MORE YEARS of experience, will be ready to be an actual head coach. But that is a long long time away, and I truly hope he gets the experience he needs --- SOMEWHERE ELSE.

He is terrible.

Why is it all one or all of the other? If he's got the skills, use him to the fullest extent of his abilities. I say don't limit him at all. If he's got the range, why say "No! You must fit in to a pre-considered, neat, tight label! Nothing outside the box here!"

Even if it's just a vague threat from deep, nourish it.
I am not saying to limit his skill set. I am saying the jump shot comes AFTER the post game. That is basically the curve for all NBA greats the last time i checked, other than pure shooters of course.
Lionel Hollins, Stan Van Gundy, Doug Collins, Jerry Sloan, and George Karl dont have jobs and Monty Willams does.
Please, not Doug Collins. If you hate Monty, you will despise Doug Collins. Unlike Monty, he actually actively tells his players to take long twos and avoid the free throw line. His team set an NBA record in getting to the line. And he threw his entire team under the bus after running them into the ground. Sloan and Van Gundy are pipe dreams.
Good God no, now I see where Jrue gets his game from. But Sloan is a pipe dream but not Van Gundy. It's clear AD is the next super star and seems to be more level headed and we're not too far from his home in Orlando. He could seriously be interested in coaching a team full of young humble good player soon to be great.

mid season replacement wont happen i dont think. not with one of those names
Monty was an assistant of a coach who is and should be an an assistant. Monty should be an assistant too and that would be a promotion for him anyway. Head coach is clearly too much. He is like Austin Rivers in the world of coaches. Lot of upside but maybe Dell should send him to the dog house just like Monty does with Rivers
Here's a name... Nate McMillain.
If you clip Monty then what about Dell? He likely has to go too, right?. The two are seemingly joined at the hip. I don't think it happens, this season or offseason anyway.
I half suspect that the "Mic'd Up" segment may have been Benson's idea.. to see what kind of squirrely nonsense MW is spewing during timeouts. Lord knows what goes on in the locker room during half time.
The whole staff just seems busch league. The assistants that give interviews at halftime give me the impression that they leave their jobs as Capital One Account Managers during the day to come and wear a suit behind Monty on game nights.
My favorite Monty-ism, though, is when something happens that typically shouldn't (Bradley Beal hitting a 40-ft three pointer off the backboard).. MW's face just seems SHOCKED and confused that the basketball gods would do this to him.
