Please let's just cut to the chase ya'll

I've gladly danced with several folks on this issue, but I simply want an answer that clearly I cannot see myself. And no, it's not because I'm a Carolina naysayer, so can we please give that ignorance a rest. Can anyone tell me what Tim Floyd did besides what he did in Chicago that makes him worthy of being our head coach? No jokes, but if we can't go on his worst percentage record, what are we going on? I don't want him to fail, but to me we ran a good coach out of town and this is the end result and we seem short. My question is, are we any better with Tim Floyd than we were with Paul Silas? If there is no change in personel in the offseason, how can you say we are? Change for change's sake rarely works, so pardon my skepticism. But I close and obviously wishing him the best, I just hate he has to prove himself worthy to even coach on this level on MY team in a critical year. So to the Tim-mites out there, please give us some insight. Thanks.
Hey, I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

If you can't be convinced now, you won't ever be. It's just a wait and see from here on out.

See no body can give you a good reason because there is none. Even in college he had no championships, no final fours and I don't believe even any sweet sixteens.

I do not think Floyd is an upgrade over Silas based on his career to date. Having said that, Silas was not going to get a long term extension after all the years he was already here. So, it was apparent Silas was not going to sign a one or two year deal, so his fate was sealed. I would have MUCH rather they hired Carlisle or maybe even Dunleavy. They did not, and now it is time for us to just hope he becomes a "better coach" with a talented team to work with.

Tim is an x's and o's type coach - despite what Mr. Know-it-all in Chicago wrote. He is an intense competitor and that sometimes can affect the way he interacts with players. With regard to the way he handled/treated players, he seems to have indicated that he will do some things differently here than he did in Chicago and that's a good thing.

I can't tell you that hiring Floyd was a good thing, just that it happened and now I'll have to wait and see how it plays out. I hope Tim proves me wrong.

It's not that I think he is bad, he is just a bad choice for this franchise. We aren't expansion and we aren't cellar dwellars. Floyd needs to prove that he is an NBA coach first. I'm all about second chances, but when you are talking going for a Championship, Finals, shucks even second round and you just ran a guy for not doing that enough, why are we to accept a guy that hasn't done any of it, or even won 50 games in his career? He must have been a hell of a coach at UNO, that's all I know.

I at least appreciate your honesty ,say-what, and I agree. Thanks. I am just opposed to people trying to say we are better now than before Silas left, that's it.

Based on what Tim accomplished with the Bulls, he does not deserve to be an NBA coach. Look beyond that at what he did in the college ranks, i.e. putting two nothing programs on the map and winning almost 250 career games. Now, is college sucess enough? It depends on the coach. It sure was not enough with Pitino, but he also got two chances in the NBA. There have just as many busts going from college to the pros as there have been sucesses. I'd argue that you could have stuck any winning college coach (Rick Majerus, Bob Huggins, Henry Bibby, etc..) with the Bulls and they would have been a dismal failure as well.

I'm definitely not going to tell you that we're better with Floyd at this point in time, I thought he would be the wrong choice since his name came up. Hopefully this works out. Like I've said, I know he's a good coach, just don't feel that he's the right coach for the Hornets.

It doesn't matter. No amount of argument or debate will _establish_ that Floyd is better than Silas or vice versa. The only thing that matters is PERFORMANCE. We must wait and see. Silas is GONE. Floyd is HERE. We all must wait and see.

I can't argue with what you're saying here, except I don't think it's necessarily a "bad" choice, just obviously not the best one. I would say one of the best reasons he was hired is he has local ties.

It was a bad choice in light of how many good proven coaches are available. Hiring college coaches was a fad that Pitno and Floyd helped end; which makes this decision even more strange. The man was clearly hired over more qualified canidates b/c of his time with UNO, and to a lesser extent his time with Iowo St. We are also supposed to pretend that Chicago never happened, and that Floyd is actually on the same level as Phil Jackson, b/c given the same talent they would get equal results. I'm with you Dolomite, I still haven't seen one good reason as to why Floyd should have been picked over other proven coaches, other than people really seem to like where he lives.

Put it this way: JVG is going to make 4 to 5 mill a year (for 4 years) with the Rockets. Floyd will not make that much even if he stays through his contract. Cheap? Maybe. But you get what you pay for, in this case wins.

We are better off and it has nothing to do with Tim. Without rehashing the past too much, Paul was done here. A change was best for him and the team. Regardless of who's fault it may have been, you can't have your head coach alienating his top assistant, lying to the face of ownership and being defiant. If you have a disgruntled employee, he is best not around no matter how good he might be. I don't want to call him a cancer, but this team was on the verge of a downward spiral. We are better off because we have a coach who wants to be here, period.

Don't get caught up in that Paul wanted to be here stuff. If he did, he could have. He turned down a deal prior to the 2002-2003 season to return. That basically was the end for him.

He still might have earned a shot at coming back if he would have focused on his job and not the boogie man he thought was out to get him. Hill was brought in to help him. Silas turned it into a negatvie. He put his trust and basketball team in the hands of Bob Donewald and his son. He spent time taping radio and TV shows to see what was being said about him. He couldn't open his mouth without self justification. The guy sabotaged himself, but got a "pass" with the press knowing they would focus on management's past. We are better off (and so is he) simply because the coach who was here didn't want to be here under the terms of ownership. Period.

I'm trying to back off of Paul, but you guys keep asking for it. The thread says to cut to the chase and I did. How many times does it need to be said? The truth isn't going to change...

HH, Silas did need to go . . . no question. But I can't think we are better off with Floyd (just for change); however with Hill as HC I would totally agree. Hill wasn't on the top of my list, but I always considered him to be the safest bet. If anyone could have hit the ground running with this team it was Hill, he was the only one really prepared to do that. Hill has been in the NBA for years, with experience on many different levels. I can't believe we didn't hire him.

Sorry to rant, but reading today that Hill will probably not be our assistant has made this hire even more confusing. Instead Lucas will most likely be a heartbeat away from the HC position. Unreal. This is wrong. It can't be spun any different, the ball was dropped this coaching search. All those names floating around and we end up with Floyd, and probably Lucas.

Then we are better off. Maybe not to the level we want, but better off none the less. If Paul would have stayed, all of the things we fear that might happen with Tim, would have happened. Your chances for success or improvement when the relationship between ownership and the coach is damaged beyond repair is zero. We are better off. The main issue seems be be we could have done better than Floyd more than if Silas could have returned. Thats a no brainer. Silas had to go.

Yes I still can't come to believe that W/L wise we are a better team with Floyd. I mean, there is no way to justify it....we had a better candidate right under our nose and he was picked over not for one of the hot coaching names available(Brown, Van Gundy, Czar, Dunleavy, Carlisle) but for someone who most believed probally wouldn't get another pro gig and was destined to return to college...just doesnt add up....but we shall see......
I'm not a player I just, well you know the rest....

I do hope that Floyd can prove everybody wrong. We'll just have to wait and see.
