    NBA's Backward Culture: -Woj (Yahoo)

    http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nba--ba...174058736.html

For Brandon Knight, who had the guts to stand in there, there were prominent people writing that he had been raped and assaulted and killed on Sunday night in Los Angeles. Eight inches shorter and 80 pounds lighter, Knight understood the right thing is seldom ever the most popular. Brandon Knight didn't run and hide, didn't spare himself the humiliation.
The culture of this sport has never been so backward, never so twisted. Hell of a dunk out of DeAndre Jordan, but maybe the wrong player gets the ovation.
This article sums up why I don't find dunks like this impressive in a basketball sense. Sure, that was hell of a dunk, but I would feel the same way about it if Knight wasn't even there to contest. Average.

I appreciate the sentiment, but he's way too dramatic about it. "PEOPLE ARE MAKIN FUN OF KNIGHT OH NOS!"

I've never understood the fascination with posterization. Some of the dunks are impressive feats of athleticism like Blake Griffin dunking over/through Perkins/Mozgov, but most of the time it's either an outmatched or out of position defender. It's lauded as some great play when it's usually the NFL equivalent of blown coverage, not catching the ball while triple teamed.

We hardly ever characterize that bold statement as a superior play by the WR, and that is how I few these types of dunks. Also, in the NBA 20 years ago, I promise you Jordan doesn't finish that dunk, just saying.

Even with that dunk the Clippers will lose in the playoffs. Also, I agree, 20 years ago Jordan gets demolished. ESPN was even talking like it might be the greatest dunk by a Jordan ever. WTF?

Thank you. I feel the same way about posterization, getting shook, etc. Everyone always overblows these events, but in basketball it happens to the best of them. Second of all, at least Brandon Knight had the gonads to put forth an effort and rotate to the roll man and try to disrupt the shot. Just like when Emeka Okafor got dunked on by Kobe in the playoffs. There's several vids on youtube of him getting dunked on, but there's many situations where he's blocked dunks also. Most people think the cool thing to do is get out of the way like a pretty boy....sad.

I've learned never to take anything ESPN says about the NBA seriously.

I don't think even if he wanted to stop it he could have; so I wouldn't go that far. He was put in a bad position and he's hopelessly outsized on a play like that. Do you think isiah would have been able to do anything if caught off guard like that? I don't. I just think Jordan would have had to pay for it down the line.

"I don't know if people know — I dislocated my pinkie finger. And [Tyreke] told me, 'You wanna go home or you wanna be here?' I want to be here. And he said, 'All right, then go tape it up and let's play. Let's go. We not stoppin' at no stores. Straight gas. That's what we do, just keep going.'"

My decision to stop watching espn has been the best and most successful new years resolution I've had.

It might not be the greatest dunk ever.....but it was nasty. No matter how much you try to put on a cape for Brandon Knight the fact of the matter is he got smashed on. He knows it....we all know it.... Just cuz he smaller don't mean nothing....if you're brave enough to jump you're brave enough to take any and all slander that comes your way after getting dunked on.
