Austin Rivers is expected to miss 4-6 weeks after fracturing the 4th metacarpal on his right hand.

From crisis to opportunity. If he doesn't work on that left hand while he's out, I'll be sorely disappointed.

I'll put money down that this was Austin's last game as a Hornet....
No but really don't think he'll play another game this year. Sucks but its life.

True...it could be the best thing for him in the long run. You know he's going to be out there every day practicing with his left.

And to think that at the beginning of the season I thought his ankle would have been what ended his season with the way he was twisting it.

    Rivers out 4-6 weeks

I just broke my dominant hand Friday, and it ain't no joke. Ish hurts. Then to be more relevant to the topic, I tried to play a basketball tournament the next day. It didn't turn out too well. It's no fun. At least it's not the ACL tear equivalent of a hand injury.

Agreed. There are positives that can be drawn from this. Rivers has been playing much better the past few weeks, so he'll be able to step back from the game, and watch a lot of film. That kind of stuff is invaluable, when you see it from a different perspective, especially with a kid like Rivers who is working on his game 24/7, he never gets a chance to step back and reflect on what's going on. I expect Rivers to have a very good learning experience from this whole thing.

On a side note, Rivers played the rest of the half with a broken hand, and he even hit a few more shots after he broke his hand. Dude is a serious trooper, and I love that.

Your posts always have the perfect blend of optimism and realism.

Got me pumped! This can only make him stronger.

Get better Austin! I've loved watching you grow this season.

"I'm not going to allow my putative owner to answer that question, this is an NBA related press conference. Paul Tagliabue and Roger Goodell have collectively sung their praises of Tom and if uh ESPN has a problem with that tell Mr. Skipper to call me at my office."

    Haha I got you

Damn it sucks because I really want him to work on his jump shot. Hopefully he comes back in a Pelican uni 10 pounds heavier and a left hand!

He can't do that until the off season anyway. If he is tweaking his form, he can't do that mid season. He has done little things like going from a 2-footed to a 1-footed floater, and he stopped kicking his leg out, but it's nearly impossible to change your release and elbow form mid-season. I also expect him to get stronger this off season, which will help him when he drives the lane.

GADDAMMIT! If Monty isn't playing Davis 30+ minutes, what reason do I have to watch these Hornets? We're tanking losing. And watching the rookies develop HAS to be one of the things that we as fans tune into. Now with Rivers out, and Davis not playing minutes, what are we supposed to watch now??

Worst timing ever, man we're so lucky. Ah well let's hope he works a lot with his left hand before coming back to the tank

When I broke my hand playing snr year in High School, by the time I came back my weak hand (the unbroken one) was much stronger. Actually helped my game and being just a hand, you can still keep in shape.
