Watching the Mavs situation is interesting

And makes me appreciate that Gayle owns the team and intends to keep it in NOLA. We might not be very good but at least we have a team. The Mavs situation reminds us that if Gayle decides to sell it could be to someone that will intentionally sabotage the team so they can facilitate a move. I would rather a sub par team that makes an occassional playoff appearance than no team at all. Sure, I would love it if they could get some folks in there to at least become a consistent playoff team or even an occasional contender but the alternative of not having a team at all would really suck. I would probably stop watching the NBA if the Pels move.

Few month ago I may agree with you, but since the reports of Gayle using the PR teams of her franchises to covering the catholic Church abuse, I just want her to sell the pelicans.

Hopefully to someone that doesn't care about NFL so the Pelicans will start to act without worrying about the Saints in a sort of little brother's complex.

Then if you add a rebrand with more vibrant colors while keeping the gold, I think that would be the perfect situation.

I suppose the ideal situation would be selling to another group that would keep the team locally but for now at least they are staying put so far. The church stuff is egregious though...

Best case scenario is Gayle sells it to someone with local ties that would want to keep the team in New Orleans. Unfortunately anyone that would be in a bidding war for the Pels would want to move the team elsewhere. There isn't a Todd Graves lining up to buy us at the moment.

The whole church fiasco surprisingly/unsurprisngly was like a 2-day outrage. Didn't gain traction for whatever reason. I don't see Gayle selling. We'll see what happens when she passes.

She should sell if only that she has proven she isn't fit to run the Pelicans. The whole Fast and Furious "Family" slogan has failed. She and others around her are more concerned with how they are perceived as an organization than actually winning. It has affected the hires and now we are back at Square one.

I totally agree. Griff gets up there and spews nonsense every time about a persons character. It does not mean they can play basketball! I could care less about character when it comes to basketball. Just win the game! I mean good character is awesome and all, but I don’t always want some nice guy on my team. Bruce Brown said he likes to talk trash. I can’t wait to see it.

Yeah the League's office must love her because she always get a pass on her mistakes and it never get much national coverage.
I mean we are just a few years ago removed from the NBA forcing Sarver to sell his franchise for being basically a gigantic jerk to his employee. The fact that she can get away with using her sport franchise to cover criminal charges for her friends is pretty telling. It's the same with the fact that she made no structural investment for the franchise in the last 10 years, maybe even 15 years, and no one in the League office seems to care.

Now let's be realistic. Given the current valuation of NBA franchise and the fact that it might plateau after the likely expansion, the only buyers likely to purchase an NBA franchise would be one of the deepest pocketed billionaire with love for basketball. I don't think that a lot of them lives in NO or would be found enough of the city to prevent them to relocate the team.

So it's either stay with Gayle and expect no improvement or have a new owner but enter the relocation threat circus. I'd say depending on the decision that will be made this summer I may switch from preferring the former to hoping for the later.

Tom passed in 2018 I think so it was his fault for not investing anything before that.
