Breaking News Pelicans sign Daniel Theis

Let us hope this is just a move to replace Larry Nance/Zeller

    3 million/ 1 year

    -

Still need a player to replace Naji

Still need a player to replace JV

I'm guessing Trey and Hawkins will take Najis minutes. We should bring back Hilton Armstrong to play center. He would definitely be cheap.

A sharpshooter who shot 37% from 3 last year. Championship!

    Yes I'm joking.

IMO higher IQ than Larry and plays bigger than his height, but we still need to address the starter at the 5.

I really like this signing, he is a hard player, good in screens, can shoot from 3 meters, reboundind and some defense. Solid depth in the frontcourt.

Maybe we start the season with Theis/Missi and Missi is enough good since the beginning to play 20-25min both players.

And maybe later in the season we sign/trade for another solid C.

Missi hard to track because he's a rookie and raw which makes you think he's destined for the Squadron all season but all reports say he's high IQ and a quick study.....so.....maybe he starts eeking out some minutes mid-season or towards the end. With our Embarrassment of Riches forward group being able to eat up some minutes at PF and small ball C, I feel pretty good about our backup Big Man spots but still awful about the starting role.
BI, Zion, and CJ had a net rating of +3 when on the court together. BI and Zion had a +13.4, BI and CJ had a +13.2, Zion and CJ was just +5.4.

BI and Zion worked. BI and CJ worked. It was CJ and Zion and all three together that didn't work.

If BI isn't traded then we don't need to replace Naji, we already have too many wings. We do need to add another big man, but we won't find one of JV's caliber without an Ingram trade. I think we will see more small ball minutes with Zion as the 5.

Pels about to get outrebounded by 20 every game. Not a single one of our wings is a reliable, consistent, plus level rebounder.

Zion is fine, especially for his height, but he's somewhat inconsistent.
Trey was showing signs at the end of last year but again, we have yet to see enough to take it on faith that he'll do that again.
Herb, despite being excellent everywhere else, has reliably been a pretty pathetic rebounder his entire career thus far.
BI, much like Trey and Zion, occasionally has flashes but in general, is a poor rebounder, especially for his size.
CJ is a fine rebounder for his size, but he's very small.
Hawk, surprisingly, is a good rebounder for his height but again, he's quite small.

Dejounte is a good rebounder for a guard, thank God, but that's about it. We are a roster filled with guys who don't rebound at all, or don't rebound consistently. JV covered so many people's backs on the glass that it was easy to forget but without him it's going to be a horror movie.
    Basketball.

I didnt say they were going to play small ball Z for 48 minutes. I said some minutes. Rebounding can be coached up, I think one of the reasons guys like Herb didnt get rebounds is because they didnt even try because if Jonas was in the game he is getting the rebound.
