Pelicans Welcome to the Pelicans: Antonio Reeves

Pelicans twitter finally made this official, so here's the welcome post!

Antonio Reeves goes to the Pelicans with the 47th pick. He is a 5 year player who spent time at Illinois State and Kentucky.

Reeves 38.4% from 3 on nearly 800 attempts over his 5 years in college, culminating in him shooting 44.7% from 3 on 5.7 3PA this season and 39.8% on 5.9 3PA last season. He also shot excellently from floater range this year, shooting 52/98.

His BPM improved each season in college, finishing at +7.0 in his final year.

Not really a playmaker for others, his AST% was never high but his TOV% wasn't either, and dropped almost every year he was in college until it finished at a fantastically low 7.1% his final year.

Improved to an 86.3% FT shooter over the years too.

Biggest knock on him is his age (he will turn 24 this year) and lack of creator upside, but not necessarily a death knell, especially for someone drafted to be a shooter and scorer. Defense is also a minor concern; he was better this year, but historically it hasn't been great.

Some highlights for the highlight fans:

    Good luck to him!
    Basketball.

If he can hit buckets and work on the defensive end, he will be a solid pick.

What? Let's be realistic. He may not even make the roster. He likely will be on a 2-way contract.

Since more shooting around Zion is what everyone wants.

Realistic is, the guy can shoot..can he not?...and you act like Herb, naji, and Jose have not proven folks wrong by working hard to earn a spot....he is a older player so mentally he should be ready for what the nba has to give.....if dude shooting is there and he put the work in then he will succeed in the league......

The 47th pick in the draft usually doesn't result in anything. Obviously we can hope for the best for him, and acknowledge that he has a skillset many teams value, and still understand the probabilities of the situation.

He can shoot. Not a good defender and needs to add weight.. Also read that only 13 of his 3 point shots were from NBA 3 point distance. May take a little while to adjust.

The Squadron will be fun to watch. I mean that in a good say and not a passive aggressive jab.
BI, Zion, and CJ had a net rating of +3 when on the court together. BI and Zion had a +13.4, BI and CJ had a +13.2, Zion and CJ was just +5.4.

BI and Zion worked. BI and CJ worked. It was CJ and Zion and all three together that didn't work.
