At halftime, the New Orleans Saints lead the New England Patriots by a score of 3-0. Some thoughts thus far:

The defense looks really good.

Wow. If the defense continues this pace for the entirety of the season, look out. Spags’ implementation of a pressure defense is working very well. The defense has already forced two turnovers, limited the Pats offense to only one possession in our territory (which came at the end of the 2nd), and has held one of the most potent offenses in the league scoreless.

Could Travaris Cadet make the team?

Love the effort of Cadet. He is clearly out to prove that last week’s performance was not a fluke. His most impressive stat? Wrestling away an interception Robert Meachem-style from a Patriot defensive lineman. If Cadet cannot make the team as a running back, the Saints should take a hard look at creating a roster spot for him, even if it’s on special teams.

Things to look for in the second half:

1. The preseason debut of Luke McCown at quarterback. Should be interesting how he runs the offense.

2. Can the defense keep up the pace? It’s up to reserve players now, and will be fascinating to see how deep Spags’ teaching reaches.
