I never understood that logic either. I also don't understand how we can have 2 members of our core 4 playing the same position in the frontcourt, and neither can effectively defend Centers.

I think it's an assumption MM makes that Tyreke, Jrue, Ryno, and Davis are Dell's "core 4".

We got AD, Jrue, and assets. IMO.

that's 1 of the reasons why i think 1 of those 2 players need to be moved, and it isn't gonna be Davis.

MM... It's a huge assumption and a leap to assume you have the ability to think like Dell. How many conversations about this team and his approach to building it have you had with him?

My belief is that the past - both his words and actions - show a clear directive and philosophy. Now, I understand your hope that these have just been a set of coincidences and that he can shift courses because then he would be doing something that you would like for him to do. But stepping outside of what we all individually want, I can't see how we can't at least admit that there has been a pattern so far - something he has shown in both words and actions.

Couple that with no playoffs in a few years and a contract that is running out, it likely reinforces his desire to build a team that can win sooner than later. But yes, you are right, I do not know what he ate for cereal today or what his favorite movie is. But I can spot trends and I do listen to every word he says, coupled with some things we hear that others are not privy to; I will say again, I will be shocked if one of those 4 guys is move and a 19 or 20 yr old is on the roster in their place

And find me anybody else on this planet who called the Rivers pick more than a month before it happened and put forth the trading of the 2013 and 14 pick for a young vet in May of 2013. Not to mention, predicting that Thornton would be traded that preseason when everybody thought he was a piece for the future and even listed Landry as a guy we would trade for.

You can poke fun rather than discuss intelligently, but he isn't that hard to predict. He is pretty transparent with his philosophies.

I have two friends who work in basketball ops and I just couldn't do what they do. They have to suck up to 24 yr old punk kids, have their phones on all hours of the night, and do gopher work for years before they even got into the rooms that matter. And they are always terrified that they will lose their job, because if a GM gets canned, sometimes the staff goes with it.

Its not an impossible job to pursue, but it is something I could never do. If you were an ex NBA player, maybe it is a slightly easier track, but sadly I am not.

Look, I get it. I don't have 1/10th of the qualifications required for a GM. But, either did my friends, and I bet one of them gets a GM job within the next 5 years. I think the problem was with the phrasing of the question. If you had asked if he has ever pursued a team job it would have went over much smoother and I actually think it's a valid question. While becoming a GM involves so much luck and things that are completely out of your control, I think MM could easily be a guy who breaks down tape and gives advice and analysis on players for an NBA.

Not that anybody cares, but I am seriously considering going into women's college ball coaching. Have gotten some feelers lately and I love coaching the game at its purest levels. Guys are vastly superior, but coaching them the last few years, they cut corners because of their abilities.

I don't think we will get a 1st round pick and if we do we will use it as part of a trade.

I agree, but can you argue the other side? Because I can't. Not that I can't argue the idea of getting one of those guys. But I can't argue that Dell would do that. I can't find anything in his track record that could even remotely point to that possibility.

Best I got is that, coming from SA, he saw what moving George Hill for a better fitting, younger piece did. But George Hill was closer to an Austin Rivers, not a Ryno or Reke. Could I see him moving Rivers for a pick if a SF or C he likes falls? Sure. But not one of the 4 main guys.

Hey I hope nothing but the best for your friend and for that matter you. I think it'd be awesome if your friend becomes a GM and brings you in. Then I can say I argued basketball with an NBA exec for years. For something that's just a hobby for me, that's a cool story to have.

I also get the inability to wink and smile when feeling disrespected. But maybe it's not all bad. It would make for a fun podcast if there was a 3rd person in it that you just went at it with about topics.

Coming fro the Spurs I could see dell wanting a late 1st to take a role playing SF, most of the spurs players, besides duncan, were late 1st/2nd round picks.

My argument would be, does that mean he wouldn't trade Jrue for a pick that he could get AD with? While I agree that I think he prefers "young vets" from everything he's said and done. I also can't help but believe if he had a player tiered as a game changer he would attempt to get that player even if he was 19/20.

If he viewed somebody at that level in this draft, I don't think he would have traded the pick last year. I mean, he scouts these guys when they are 15 or 16.

Only guy I can see him in love with is Embiid, but how are you not terrified after seeing what this team has been through injury wise and what it has done to the on court product?

And the biggest factor - you might love Embiid, but if you don't make the playoffs, you are likely drafting that guy for the next GM. I would love to think that he cares about the franchise more than his own self preservation, but I think that might be a tad bit naive

Yet you seem to think there won't be teams that could use Ryan's skill set as badly if not more so than us enough to offer a big deal while he's in his prime.

Oh I didn't mean in this draft. I just meant in general. I think there is clearly a scenario where Dell picks a 19 year old over a 24 year old. Even if he views the 24 year old as a "core" piece.

Ryno is far more valuable than Dunleavy and Hawes. I mean, I don't know how that is debatable. Look at Net Rating. I mean, it seems like the debate on here about Ryno is black and white. You are right, he might not be a core piece, but he is extremely valuable. People remember how terrible this team looked at times those first 8 games, right?

He is the most valuable offensive player IMO. You take him off the court and the team suffers more than if you take any other single player off. I think he is one of the 30 most valuable offensive weapons in the entire NBA. That said, yes he could be moved for a better fitting core piece. But he can't be replaced with a Dunleavy or a Hawes, even in the short term

Would have to be the right guy. AD was talented, yes, but he was also incredibly humble and willing to sacrifice. One thing we all know but often goes overlooked is that he took the 5th most shots on that Kentucky team. He didn't care, just wanted to win. That is how Spurs players think, and he did it as an 18 yr old.

Would have to be that level of special guy, and I don't see that guy in this draft, so I would be extremely shocked if he moved a core piece for a top pick in this draft

Cool, but here's the problem with your logic. You guys have Hawes in the open market in the MLE tourney at 3yrs 22M's that's 7 million a season. If that's the value for Hawes and Anderson is superior what is Anderson worth in the open market? You build the guy up when it's fits your narrative then you find a way to say he doesn't have value when that fits your narrative. You want it both ways.

Hawes is hitting free agency at 26 years and 1 month of age. Anderson will hit it at the age of 28. Also, Hawes is a legit 7 footer, and we live in a world where Jerome James gets paid because he is 7 feet tall. Todd Fuller gets drafted ahead of Kobe.

All I can do is look at the past and try to predict the future. I don't try to create a narrative. If you can find me 28 yr olds with Anderson's size, skill set, and production that got huge contracts, then I will say that I might be wrong. And maybe there aren't any, but I will be wrong anyway, but the past does not indicate that.

Example - Isaiah Thomas will get way underpaid for his production this summer because he doesn't fit a prototypical profile. Boris Diaw won't get paid this summer despite being a Finals MVP candidate. Some guys just don't get paid big money despite their production because they fit only certain teams and/or don't fit a prototype.
