Actually taken a little bit higher than expected. Most people thought mid to late teens. I still think the tipping point for him being chosen was the relationship with his family.

It makes me SO MAD to think that Drummond went 1 pick before us.
Dell Demps inherited a **** team and actually has built a team with a lot of talent. It's on the coach to get the team to play well together.
The only move I question of Demps is Gordan, and I thought it was our best option at the time, so whatever. I think Dell is easily top 15 in the league, and I don't see any moves that should warrant a lower ranking.
Top 15? I am not that impressed. The best move he has made was drafting AD and he lucked into that. The Ryno signing was very good. The jury is still out on the Holiday trade and the Evans signing. I really liked the Belinelli, Vasquez and Lopez trades, but he gave all of them away again after a relatively short period.
Look at the team he started with and where he is now. He utilized those assets to get where he is today. Look at the record of the team he started with and the ones lately. I do not think he has done a terrible job at all. However, I think he has made his share of questionable moves. I also still cannot forget the trade he signed off on for CP3 that would likely have prevented us from getting AD (and in all likelihood, he would have been fired by now). He has gotten himself into a couple of sizeable long term deals that need to pay off for him to be considered a good GM (Gordon, Evans and Holiday).
So because the team declined from when we had Chris Paul and David West, Dell Demps is bad? You know Coaches and GMs can grow just like players. The past 2 years have been solid for Dell. If you dont agree, then maybe you should go find us a new GM. I'm waiting for the guy who you think would put this team over the top.
I actually think it's time for the coaches and players to step up. Dell has assembled a solid team after the CPME disaster.
ALSO, let that Laker's trade go... You can't judge him on something that didn't happen, especially when what actually happened was a positive move for the franchise.
You seem to be making nothing but excuses for him. You most certainly can judge him by a trade he agreed to and had to be bailed out of. It would have changed the entire future of the Pelicans. What "actually happened" was orchestrated by his bosses. Also, you most certainly judge a GM by what he does with the assets he has at his disposal and how he shapes his team. I still think he gets an "incomplete." I want to see the direction of the team as it seems to be constantly moving. The Evans signing could end up being a terrible move for him if he cannot find something to do with Gordon. He invested $44 million on a guy that right now, does not fit the SF role or the Ginobili role he touted him for.
I've pointed out in this thread mutliple times of the magic he has pulled off. You fail to acknowledge that, like usual. Have fun hating everything about this organization "Pelicans Fan."
Tyreke sure wasn't a terrible move when he was posting crazy numbers with Anderson. Typical.
The irony. I've pointed out multiple positive moves he's made. All the negative moves you've pointed out are "fake and didn't happen" and too early to judge. Yes, signing Gordan was a bad move, but other than that I don't see a bad move, and even the ones in question have onlly had like 6 months to develop... Talk about small sample size theatre.
Move on.
What really happened with that CP3 to Lakers trade? From what I've read it was never discussed at the BOG meeting. Stern wasn't even the one who coined the phrase "basketball reasons". We all know Dell had to come up with something. CP3 wanted out and he had to come up with something. It was already understood by most that we wouldn't be getting full value for Paul. Is it possible the trade was discussed between Dell, the Rockets and CP3's camp? CJ and CP3's camp could've put it out there in the media hoping it would somehow be forced if they put it out there as already a done deal? One thing for certain, Dell had to come up with something. Paul wanted out. No one here knows what they would've done if they were GM. Some people were ready to get the fiasco over with and would've traded Paul for a bag of Skittles.
I don't really know what happened but I'm glad it did. And if he really cried upon leaving New Orleans I hope he cried because he wasn't going to the L.A. team he tried to get to. :nerner:
The only thing I remember about that proposed trade with LA was that the Hornets were going to take on a TON of salary, and the NBA didn't want the eventual owner to have that kind of payroll on the books as they bought the team.
Stern took the bullet because he was speaking on behalf of the league, but somebody in the league office rang the alarm, and Stern squashed the deal.
That's my opinion... nothing more. No inside info nor did I hear this from anyone.
Things could always be worse

That first round pick was like 19th in the 2011 draft. I'm fine with that. Also, Portland turned around and traded that pick plus Joel Przybilla, Dante Cunningham, Sean Marks to Charlotte for Gerald Wallace. Charlotte with the 19th pick select Tobias Harris who was traded to Milkwaukee who was a no body until he came to Orlando last year and had a breakout season. I don't see how it was that bad. Jack was a player CPME wanted to play with and provided good things of the bench in our only playoff run.
That first round pick was protected 1-7 in 2011 and 1-8 2012-2014.
You are acting like we traded away the rights to the next Kobe Bryant... (we did that already)
Then not to mention. Jarrett jack was traded for the rights to edin bavcic.
Hopefully tonight it Gordan's last game as a Pelican, but I'm not holding my breath. I just hope he survives tonight injury free.
Dude you can't go that deep into a trade. The trade was a 1st rd pick for bayless who didn't last a month. Makes it a bad trade. So then we traded jack for the rights to edin bavcic. Ok so that pick wound up being Tobias Harris. That doesn't matter cause we could also say let's look at all the players after him we could of got such as Kenneth faired, jimmy butler, Reggie Jackson, Jordan Hamilton, chandler parsons, the fact is that it was a bad trade no matter how u slice the pie.
Oftentimes, one move is made to make room for another one. This is why a lot of fans have a hard time understanding some trades and deals. Not all trades are made for IMMEDIATE impact. This is why a GM's job is never done. Building and managing a roster can't possibly easy.
Also, when Dell traded a 2nd round pick for Brad Miller and 2 second round picks from Minnesota. Then he turns around and trades Jerom Dyson and Brad Miller to Suns and 2 second round picks back to Minnesota for Lopez and Warrick.
That's just sick business, imo.
I think Gordon is here through the season at least. Hopefully he plays injury free solid ball the rest of the year.
That was a fantastic trade IMO. Lopez was a bargain for this team. However, he gave him away for nothing in order to pay Evans. That is why I think Evans needs to be a home run for him. He created a big hole at the 5 to overpay for a player at a position that we already had covered with Gordon (and thus far, has not been able to move Gordon).
The greatest irony of the season will that Eric Gordon will be the healthiest Pelican of them all.
The big picture looks bright due to 1 thing. ANTHONY DAVIS. Without him the future is bleak at best. He is saving a few jobs right now. The point is the Gordon resigning isn't the only bad move he's made like u said. After a few bad signings died he compensate for them by making other moves? In a way yes but it was still a bad move to begin with. Like I said that '1st rd pick he traded could of been chandler parsons, Kenneth faired, jimmy butler n a couple others. Instead it ended up being Jarrett jack who was pretty much let go for nothing.
Could have been, but if Dell si as bad as you say, do you have confidence he picks any of those players?
Also, I'm not ready to judge the Tyreke signing and Jrue in entirity. In the early stages, I like what I see, but I'm not in anyway calling it a failure like some think it is.
You keep going back to that 1 first round pick. Plus if you think those players ar so good, they could of changed our draft pick for AD, the only bright spot according to you. A transaction reaches farther than the initial level. It lives on for years and years, and it should be judged as so.
Could have been. It's not definite though. I need everyone to remember, it takes two. Sometimes 3. We can't just sit up here and say, oh, we could've had this guy and that guy. You HAVE to have a partner. Just because we don't have those guys doesn't mean Dell never inquired about any of them.
This almost reminds me of when we don't hear our names in trade rumors and we always assume it's because the GM isn't doing anything and he's just sitting on his hands, just because we don't hear about it. And then BOOM.
3-team trade homie.

The trade -- which can't be officially completed until July 10 -- will send Evans to the Pelicans via sign-and-trade, with Sacramento receiving guard Greivis Vasquez from the Pelicans and Portland acquiring New Orleans center Robin Lopez.
