Yeah, we would have to be above MLE. There is also still the S&T market.

Still apples to oranges; a team that went to the NBA finals 2 years ago with one of the best managed, best coached, best cultures in the sport vs. an absolute toddler team learning to walk that missed the playoffs twice in a row with a brand new coach.

Can't really take it personally with a vet like Lowry who needs to compete at the highest level of the game late in his career.

Most reports had it at 3/90. There was unconfirmed speculation that we could go as high as 35/36 a year but that was based on cap rules not on inside sources from what I read.

Too panicky would be the correct term, but spoiled at not realizing the talent that the FO has done a great job of putting together from the draft and trades over the last 2 years. We have a rotation consisting of great to good players already on the roster who just needs more minutes and coaching. It would feel weird to not add another PG or bench scorer in FA, but I wouldn?t be disappointed either.

IMO, the huge upgrades over Adams at C and Bledsoe & Ball combined at PG offensively is underrated right now

I'm with you on this.

How many games did we lose last year because Ball had one of his off shooting nights? There were a lot of them. He was consistently inconsistent. Its hard to win games when you never know what you are going to get from a guy on a nightly basis.

I've seen several times where a poster speculates something and then a few days later it gets reposted by someone else as "reports said" or "this happened". We have to be careful about that. I guess that's life in the doldrums, though.

So. Some interesting Markkanen nuggets both pro and con that I found: Pro, his non-shooting stats aren't as bad as has heen portrayed. Mostly the decline was on hussle and effort and the relationship between him and the team eroded early on. He played unmotivated all season and is motivated to move elsewhere. Con, he's looking for an opportunity to start somewhere. Now at some point, he may have to cave and go to a place where he won't be penciled in as a starter but I still think he tries to go somewhere where he can compete or there's an aging vet he can replace. Ingram and Zion suck up so many minutes and are so entrenched in their spots that I doubt he willingly comes here.

One wonders if the front office is insulated from the talk about the Pelicans and the complete lack of appeal.

That’s all speculation anyway. We don’t know who they did and didn’t offer. The reported number differences between what Lowry got and what we were supposedly offering make it no surprise he chose Miami.

All of our moves have been financially responsible. Maybe we just aren’t willing to overpay to get ourselves into a potentially bad long-term contract.

id go something like:

1: Point Zion
2: Graham
3: Ingram
4: Markkanen
5: Valanciunas

I think we’re dead set on starting NAW.

Honestly... I think we'll probably blow just as many games as we did last year and Ingram gonna get mad again because we have to stagger minutes to hide our bench. Zion + bench mob squad to start the 4th. It's honestly unacceptable with how many 2nd picks we sold with the shape of our bench and development core. Same problem as last year. We needed a Butler or Cooper in the 2nd round. Only Two developmental guys in Jones and Didi in just 3 years is sad and not how you build a bench.

Every team staggers their stars minutes. SVG just went to the extreme with it.

How often do you play a bench lineup that is literally the entire bench lineup? Almost never.

The idea that we'll ever actually play a bench lineup of Kira/Didi/Naji/Murphy/Hayes is almost incomprehensible - at least, outside of total garbage time minutes.

Realistically, every lineup will contain at least one of NAW/Zion/Ingram, and most of the time it'll be two of them. As mentioned before, one of our best lineups all of last year was just Zion + Bench, cause it annihilated other bench units.

Yeah, isn't that why ita nice to have 2 stars? You can basically have at least one on the court nearly the entire game. They start and then play together at the end of the half and end of the game.

Then why does it matter if there's no central scorer? Yeah, playing all of them at once would find itself in a distinctly difficult place offensively.

Now run Kira/Naw/Ingram/Naji/Hayes

Or Kira/Didi/Ingram/Murphy/Jonas

Suddenly scoring and playmaking is far easier to come by. Any reasonable mix of starters and bench takes that ''Black Hole'' offense you describes and turns it into much less of a dramatic situation.

Did we trade Sato? He?s really solid, makes good decisions. I think it?s more likely JV gets staggered. I highly doubt we?ll see a ton of meaningful full bench minutes, but I feel pretty comfortable with Sato being a part of it.

Offense won?t be the problem with this team.

Yep. Unless there’s a blowout, a decent lead or serious foul trouble, the bench unit will always be on the court with at least two of Zion, Ingram, NAW, Graham, or Jonas. That’s why I wouldn’t panic about bench scoring because they’ll always be with a starter or one of our main scorers while the games are competitive, instead of an entire bench unit by themselves.

Man I wish we would trade a bunch of future picks and guys we have now to acquire RJ Barrett kid is a star and there were rumors they would move him. I think we could get a deal done with the young talent and picks we have. Would give us a much better chance of signing Zion long term and give us a 40% 3pt shooting guard who is a 6?7 version of Dwayne Wade IMO one day. This team needs to go make a big spasm is a trade and save the $ not wasting it on some FA that isn?t really what we need just a patch. I would be very happy with Buddy or Brogdon as well. Maybe a Dearon Fox is possible for the right deal who knows but I would be after all the top going guards in the NBA and mostly PG but make RJ Barrett my big offer guy and main target. Perfect fit giving us our big 3 for a decade and keep Zion here as they promised to play together leaving college. Those 2 easily win a national championship had college had NBA spacing and shot clocks. They would have been unstoppable under NBA rules.

Now now. We inserted Adams into the multi-team trade last year and some had a fit. Yet we signed him to an extension that was more than moveable and moved him for a solid Center that better fits our team. We gave up basically a late 1st round pick and traded back from 10 to 17 in a deep draft class. We also drafted someone high on our draft board.

Though most trade exceptions don't ever end up getting used.

So, the pick that the Pelicans traded for Devonte' Graham will be:

2022 first rounder if the Pels make the playoffs (somewhere between pick 15 and 30)

2022 and 2024 second round picks if the Pels miss the playoffs

Still a bit steep for my liking, but much more palatable.

The question is, why would we need to wait this long to sign Hart?

Is he holding out for more money than we want to give? Is one side (him or the team) dragging for some reason? If not, are they both just incredibly slow at responding to calls and texts?

So does the Buddy Hield deal have legs or just speculation?

Just speculation. We know that Sacramento has apparently been trying to move him and we also know that his relationship with the FO there is not the healthiest, and New Orleans has been name-dropped in these conversations, but there's been no leaked deals or definitive statements or anything like that. Buddy hasn't asked out, SAC hasn't publicly announced anything. It's all just ''well, it makes sense''.

When every other team signs a FA or trades someone 60 seconds into free agency? That's cool, that's chill.
When NOLA does a S&T 60 seconds into free agency? Unacceptable.

It would be incredibly unfair to the Bulls/Heat/Us if they did something about tampering now. Tampering goes on all the time. Either they make this a thing now, or they allow tampering. I don?t want these arbitrary violations.
