Sorry picked that up from a Twitter handle when the news broke. Assumed he was being serious.
Still. Tyson Chandler is getting 52m over 4 years and the contract won't end until he a 36.

Lets give a healthy asik a chance in a new defensive system that is similar to the one he was so dominant in for the bulls. We might be surprised.
Per marc stein:
Hearing that the final year of Omer Asik's new contract in New Orleans is not guaranteed. Guaranteed cash in the deal roughly $45 million

Can people start stepping away from ledges now? Its basically a 4yr/11m deal.
good deal
Full contract. Confirmed by #Pelicans sources: 5 years, $58 million. Only $44 million guaranteed for Omer Asik.

Are we still on track for Durant 2016?
I'm back from the ledge
The option doesn't make the deal that much better, but it does give us a chance to get it off the books before Davis is a free agent, so that's huge in itself. I don't like Asik so it's hard for me to get behind this deal, but I do accept it for what it is & it's far better than the "heart of phoenix" ride we just went through.
Eh. I'm super critical of Dell and don't believe in any of the Asik hype.
But I can live with $11m per year. It's basically the same deal Tiago Splitter got from the Spurs, adjusted for the new cap.
I'm not crazy about it, but i'm not mad either. If his defense improves under Erman and he does better in this faster pace system that Gentry will implement, like MM said, I think this deal is a bargain when the cap spikes. If we can re-sign Ryno next offseason, assuming he has a bounce back year, I think we will have a good/great frontcourt for the next four or five years.
Wouldn't take much though. Obviously we have to bank on the one thing we've yet to sustain since acquiring davis, which is fielding a healthy team for a full season. If that happens, we're looking at a chance to win the best division in basketball, thus making everyone on our team extremely valuable. We knew this deal was inevitable, so a few million won't make a big difference in the long run. Best believe that we'll have the cap space if there's any inkling of Durant wanting to form the greatest dynasty of all time.
I'd say its been a pretty good day playerwise, and now we'll see where things go from here.... with the coaching changes, a very solid offseason showing so far for the organization.... to say the least....
I mean this. Freaking this. I honestly can't believe the Q.Q people are doing over Asik getting 11m/yr.
Only fools thought it would be a 3 yr deal. It was always gonna be 4 and honestly 1m/yr over 10m is not a big deal at all. Look at the other C deals signed today.
Agreed, we won't know the true value of this deal until we see what Dell does with the exceptions. He's been a master at the small things so I fully expect a Gerald Green type signing soon. I know RJ has been floated out there & maybe a few years ago that would of excited me, but honestly I'd prefer keeping Dante over him.
A fully unguaranteed 14M last year ? this contract will be a very good trade assets ath the end, especially because with the cap rising furry some team will probably needs to unload some contract at this time.
No it will not, that is a common misconception that is brought about by using the current cap calculations to estimate into the future. The Cba will be renegotiated after the 2016 season, so the 2017 season will almost defiantly be adjusted to keep the cap from wild up AND down fluctuations in 2018,2019,2020. The cap is likely to be slightly under 100 mill and then raise by a relative constant of between 5-7 mill for about 3 years.
Tiago Splitter signed a 4yr deal worth 13.4% of the cap. People said it was fair market and good to lock him up quick. He was then able to be traded later when no longer needed.
Asik signs a deal worth 12.3% of the cap starting next year and some people are in panic mode.
Great example & our GM comes from that same organization. There's just too many variables to solve this equation now. I tend not to doubt the guy who has run all these numbers daily for the last few years. Dell is on the verge of locking up his job until Davis retires, so I'm gonna place my faith in him for now.
It's not a great deal. But it's not horrible either.
It's an ok deal for an ok center. It's honestly not worth the energy it's going to receive on either side of this debate.
I'm fine with 4 thank god its not a guaranteed 5
Damn! A couple seasons back, I would of been all good with this move. BUT the way he's looked in a Pelicans uniform thus far makes me worry a bit. I was hoping for something like 4 years at 40 million, but guess that was out of the question. I just wish we could of waited to see what some of the other big men got paid first. But whose to say that may have made it worse, lol. At 12 per, I wish we would of at least seen what Monroe would of wanted. Don't think he and AD play all that great together. Would of loved to see what a legitimate low post scorer would of looked like next to AD. But oh well!
