I think most of the people, media and fans included, who complain about Tyreke's contract don't realize that it's a descending contract.

I like to put point guards in tiers, not rank them 1-###; I think Jrue is in Tier 2 with a bunch of other guys. It's really hard to say he is better than one or the other; different teams have different schemes and what they ask their guys to do.
Question
I know the rules state that you can't trade picks in consecutive seasons. How did we work around this to pull of the Jrue trade?
Was it because we picked Noel?
The team only drafted Noel because the Sixers wanted him. Question is which player the team would have really drafted.
CP3
Westbrook
Curry
Parker
Pre-injury I would include Derrick Rose of course but These 4 listed are better than Jrue, but with a healthy team and Parker getting older I could see him surpassing this year. Only PG I might take over Jrue besides these 4 is John Wall, him and Jrue are around the same Lillard but I would def take Jrue over Kyrie, Lillard or Lawson.
You just think Dell said hey we'll give u the 6th pick and throw in next year's too? No. He is a professional, i'm sure he low balled them with just the 6th pick and they said no. Who would give up a 23 year old all-star only to HOPE and PRAY that the player u pick not only doesn't bust, but also becomes the same caliber of player.
It's been said the 76ers wanted to build through the draft. Noel, MCW, and their first this year would be a nice start. They also said as long as they had Jrue that they would always be around an 8 seed which hurts that strategy. I'm not privy to the talks but just saying what I would have given up. I would have like to have seen us build through the draft but I'm ok this way too. We just helped then along a little faster.
The Pels and Sixers negotiated for a while according to Dell. If any of 3 players were on the board (Noel, Oladipo, Bennett), Philly had told Dell they would trade Jrue for that guy and a protected 1st the following yr. Dell actually worked the 42nd pick out of them and planned to make that guy our 2014 rookie all along, as he asked several guys prior to the draft if they would be willing to go overseas. Pierre was one of the guys who said that he would do it.
If those 3 were gone, Dell would have taken Burke. Hope this clears any and all confusion up.
yea this makes complete sense. I rememeber a while back someone on here was claiming noel was our guy all along no matter if there was a trade or not. I just was not buying that. I see nothing in noel that says top 5 pick. If we would of picked him for our team I would of pulled my hair out. Of course I was on the MCW bandwagon all along but would of been happy with burke. I just love MCW length and ability to penetrate and get steals on defense. I think he would of been perfect fit for our team. He is asked to do wau too much in philly and in turn has made him do things at a high rate that he shouldn't be doing. Like shooting 3s.
Or shooting at all, really. :p
I wanted McLemore. He'd have been behind Gordon and getting 2nd team reps and hopefully when Gordon left he'd take over. This years pick would have been Gordon or Saric to play the 3.
The PGs who I think are clearly better than Jrue at this point:
Paul
Curry
Westbrook
Parker
Lillard
Dragic
Conley
Lowry (based on advanced stats)
After that, you have a debate with these guys
Wall
Irving
D-Williams
Jrue is still young and has a lot of upside, but he's been average overall when it comes to his efficiency. Turnovers and poor shot selection really hurt him from being the type of player he can be. If he doesn't improve on those things then he won't come close to living up to his contract.
I remember, after I saw Holiday and Conley going head to head, that Holiday was far better and obviously was younger and had more upside. I thought he embarressed Kyrie too and D-Will is a name at this point, not an elite PG anymore. In fact, he has a worse contract than Gordon IMO.
Wall is a debate and so is Lowry, but a big part of the debate is Holiday's price tag, is it not. Now, look at that list, including what Lowry is projected to get and Lillards next contract. Dragic and Curry are fantastic bargains, but Holiday is too. I mean, Wall vs. Holiday is a debate, but Wall is making close to 12 mil more than Holiday over the next 3 years. I would say that is a good tiebreaker.
When you combine value and production, I got him in the top 8.
The tie breaker for me is Jrue's defense. He is a fiend on the ball, and he plays great team defense. He sets the tone up front, and that can make a world of difference. Monty pointed it out how much opposing ball handlers were getting into the paint after Jrue went down.
Offensively he is great off the ball, which is what we want with guys like Davis, Evans, and Rivers on the team. He doesn't need the ball to be effective, and we need more guys like that on this team. He is a perfect fit for our system.
I imagine if those 3 were gone, then Otto Porter or Alex Len would have been there and that's who we would have taken. Although it does sound like if the trade wasn't in place, then everything else being equal... Burke would have been the pick.

Holiday's stats head to head vs Chris Paul are pretty bad, although his one game vs Paul as a Pelican, he probably outplayed him but it was close. His head to head stats vs both Curry and Lillard are about even.
See if I am making a list of top players, salary doesn't enter into the equation. I didn't realize that is how lists were made. If that's the case throw every guy outperforming his (rookie) contract on that list because those are your top value players.
Right now I would put Jrue in the 2nd tier, Alfred the butler catagory (not Batman, not Robin, but he can protect the house). I look forward to watching him grow with us.
