Lakers retain
Good luck getting literally anyone else on his level for anything less.
This is the state of the NBA cap right now. Elite roleplayers get $30m a year. Stars get $40m a year. Megastars get $50m a year. That's how it is now.
We'll retain Trey for $30m a year and we'll be practically forced to because we're already over the cap and there's no other avenues to adding major talent. Why do you think people were so worried about the new CBA?
Free agent Cam Reddish has agreed to a two-year deal with the Lakers, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium.

The confluence of Cam Reddish fans who are still sure he's gonna be a star and Lakers fans is going to be a toxic cocktail.
To emphasise my point:
Free agent G Fred VanVleet has agreed on a three-year, $130 million contract with the Houston Rockets, @KlutchSports CEO Rich Paul and agent Erika Ruiz tell ESPN. Rockets land ex-Raptors All-Star in his prime at 29 years old. pic.twitter.com/B6WwPmLYq1

Still technically available, according to Spotrac
- dwight Powell
- dillon Brooks
- Brook Lopez
- d'Angelo Russell
- Seth Curry
- dylan Windler
- PJ Washington (RFA)
- Matisse Thybulle (RFA)
- Jaxson Hayes
- Jaylen Nowell
- Christian Wood
- Jae Crowder
- Paul Reed (RFA)
- Mason Plumlee
- Jalen Mcdaniels
- Torrey Craig
- Jeff Green
et cetera
When BI gets extended, he's going to be making $40m+ a year, that's pretty much a given. He's making $36m a year by the end of this contract and when he gets extended he'll be eligible for the larger max.
You're right that CJ should be gone by then, but also, I'm not the one worried about it - I'm happy to pay Trey $30m. I'm just very aware that if you're paying $36m a year to Zion, $30m a year to Trey, $40m a year to Ingram, $13m a year to Herb, that's basically your salary cap gone on 4 guys and you have no flexibility, to be real.
And that's with Herb on this relatively team friendly deal.
So you better believe that those 4 + Jordan Hawkins and minimum contracts is a championship team, because if you don't, that's all we got.
Still a bit of time in the next 18 months or so to make moves, but will Griff? I have zero reason to think he will.

out on Dyson already huh?
Griff has made plenty of moves up to this point for better or worse, i don't see why that would stop unless the pelicans actually start winning. The front office's hands are a bit tied this FA, but it would not shock me to see moves coming over the course of the next season.
I think dyson is still in that zone where he could or could-not work out. He has promise but I'm not pinning anything to him yet, it will really be make-or-break for him whether he can put together a little scoring package.
I only mentioned Hawkins because at least he has a bankable NBA skill and his rookie deal will still be active by the time all these big contracts crush in.
BREAKING: All-Star G Tyrese Haliburton and the Indiana Pacers are agreed on a five-year, designated maximum contract extension that could be worth up to $260 million, his agents Dave Spahn and Aaron Mintz of @CAASports tell ESPN. Haliburton is fully the franchise cornerstone now. pic.twitter.com/je59CkPNOj

Except for his shooting, which I said was probably the best in class - my concern is all his other skills. Which is the bankable skill to which I refer: shooting.
Honestly, if you're going to continue being a petty troll the least you could do is update your pedantry from time to time.
BREAKING: Memphis Grizzlies G Desmond Bane has agreed on a five-year, $207M max contract extension, his agents Jim Tanner, Max Wiepking and Terrence Felder of @_Tandemse tell ESPN. Free agent center Jaxson Hayes has agreed to a two-year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers, sources tell ESPN.
— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) July 1, 2023
Lakers with Cam Reddish, Rui, and Jaxson Hayes from the 2019 draft. It's as if they're trying to collect all the top 10 picks from that year. Also goes to show that top 10 picks aren't generally as valuable as people think. They often turn out like these 3. 6 and 7 that year were Jarrett Culver and Colby White also.
Super smart move Jax.
He's about to be proclaimed the next big thing in NBA basketball. His social media accounts about to get a huge boost.
He does only slightly more than he did here, and he'll be on all star ballots with votes.
Just waiting to see what happens with Jonas. Stop making me wait.
It could be a fair assessment to say the Pelicans are finished, will roll with what they have, and free agency started and finished with Herb's signing? Outside of making a trade, the Pelicans essentially have no money unless they go luxury tax.
This is from the Times-Picayune: The Pelicans have minimal space under the NBA’s luxury tax line after agreeing to a four-year, $54 million deal with forward Herb Jones. They will have to do some maneuvering in the trade market if they want to stay under the luxury tax line and fill out their roster.
Free agent Thomas Bryant has agreed on a two-year, $5.4 million deal with the Miami Heat, his agents Mark Bartelstein and Zach Kurtin of @PrioritySports tell ESPN. Player option on second year.

RFA Austin Reaves has agreed to return to the Los Angeles Lakers on a four-year, $56 million Early Bird maximum contract, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Agents Aaron Reilly and Reggie Berry of AMR Agency negotiated the new deal to keep Reaves in L.A. long term.
— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) July 1, 2023
Unfortunately, the Lakers are getting better this offseason. No one challenged them on Reaves or Rui.
Charlotte Hornets G All-Star LaMelo Ball has agreed in principle on a five-year designated rookie max extension that could be worth as much as $260M, Sam Permut of @RocNationSports tells ESPN. Free agent G Dillon Brooks has agreed on a four-year, $80 million contract with the Houston Rockets, his agent Mike George of @OneLegacySports tells ESPN. Rockets have now landed two targets in free agency — Fred VanVleet and Brooks.

Free agent Jock Landale has agreed to a four-year, $32 million deal with the Houston Rockets, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Agents Sammy Wloszczowski and Michael Lelchitski of @SIGSports negotiated the new contract for Landale.
— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) July 1, 2023
Rockets might be sneakily okay this year. Not a 50 win team or anything but I could see them winning more than you may think.
Woj adds that only year 1 of the Landale contract is guaranteed.
