Those guys are extremely high end role players. I'd kill for the Pelicans to have a couple of guys like Green and Leonard. They're not "give them the ball and get out the way" guys, but not a lot of guys in the league have their blend of length, athleticism, and ability to help you at both ends of the court.

Green's playing over his head right now - Steph Curry would be over his head were he hitting 65% of his threes on this volume for a series - but he's one of the best percentage 3-point shooters in the league. Leonard's quickly become an upper-tier small forward. Splitter is having an awful series, but he's had a tremendous season.

None of those guys are franchise players, but they're major building blocks.

Depends on the offers. That is $29 million additional money guaranteed. He will not necessarily get more than $16 million a year.

He will get offered far more than $29 mil guaranteed. Absolutely no doubt. Anyone saying he won't has apparently not paid any attention to NBA free agency, ever. A 3 year deal a non-starter with him, and talking about it as a possibility is a waste of time. You are overplaying the "guaranteed" aspect. He is 29 with no injury history. He's getting paid, no doubt about it.

Igoudala's next deal will be 4 years, PERIOD. He did not opt out to take a 3 year deal, since its really only 2 years to him.

4/50 is the absolute bottom of what he will get offered, and his deal will be closer to 4/55 or more. There is simply too much cap space, demand and desperation out there to assume otherwise. And Denver will not let him go without a fight either.

That wasn't an attempt to discredit how the Spurs have kept the "machine" rolling. However if you are telling me that the Spurs model is finding difference makers in Euro league with late picks that model is dead IMO. I take Kawhi has the potential to be a difference maker on the scale of a Manu. But he's not from Euro ball and he's was a mid pick not late.

    Leonard (via George Hill)
    Green
    Neal
    Splitter
    Bonner

That's 4 out of their top 7. All late rd picks, undrafted, or 2nd rd picks. Doesn't matter if they came from Europe or Mars... San Antonio is definitely defeating the odds and their model is far from dead. They've just retooled. As usual.

ETA: And don't forget their letting Patty Mills and Nando De Colo hang around...you know a la Danny Green. Just sayin..

I wouldn't be surprised if there was mutual interest between Iggy & San Antonio this offseason basically to be Manu's replacement (but as a starter). They can make the cap space for him.

How can we magically make this draft strong? We have no control over that. Even super genius Sam Presti can not make this draft good.
    Or do we?

...no we don't. But perhaps we can interest the Kings in one Eric Gordon, greatly used, with a gimp knee and soggy disposition.

I don't think Gordon could get us the 57th pick in the draft, let alone the 5th or 7th, but man I would love to be wrong!

    Then good luck to him.

Not that scary if Duncan retires. Although I think he can play at a high level until he is 40, if the Spurs win either tonight or Thursday, I can picture Duncan riding out on top.

@Michael McNamara: Once on BSS a few weeks ago you replied to one of my comments and said that signing Iggy would be rushing the rebuild. What has changed?

I think their advantage is much smaller, but I also think there are a lot more Shinn-type small market owners that don't scout Europe heavily. The days where you can pluck a guy like Ginobili late round one are probably gone, yeah. But I think our talent pool to pick from is a little bigger than some teams.

Who thought we could get rid of both Okafor and Ariza contract in the same deal to the same team. Like I said earlier some GM's are awful. Of course some times one teams potential problem may be another teams potential solution.

I always said I can see the T'Wolves trying to make a push this year and giving up the 9th pick in this draft. Rumor is they are trying to trade up if that falls through they could be game to take a chance on Gordon.

I think Danny Greene is more important to the Spurs going forward then Iggy is. I think Iggy is the better player of course but no way San Antonio offers him all that $ when they will have to pay Greene and Leonard soon.

San Antonio has their version of Iggy already with Leonard. While I don't put it past Popovich to pull something I haven't thought of, I kinda doubt they'd go in his direction. They value 3-point shooting too much to go Leonard/Iggy (and, of course, the way Green is playing these finals, they won't sit him.)

If we could do that I would literally cry. If we could do a ST with Iggy for Gordon . . .that would be so amazing. I mean. Just. Freaking. Amazing. Dell. Make it happen.
