Thread: Cleveland may trade 1st pick

Rumor Cleveland may trade 1st pick

    Interesting scenario on deadspin,

    http://deadspin.com/the-cavs-are-wil...pick-509262668

Cleveland could easily take Syracuse's Georgetown's Otto Porter with the first pick, but it'd seem like such a waste. With Kyrie Irving and Dion Waiters making up the backcourt, they don't need Ben McLemore. And since there's no way Orlando passes on McLemore at No. 2, Porter will surely still be there at No. 3.

The only time in the lottery era that a team has traded out of the top spot, they got a 3 in return—and it worked out quite well. In 1993 Orlando shipped Chris Webber to Golden State, for Penny Hardaway and three first-rounders that turned into Mike Miller, Todd Fuller and Vince Carter.

So, would Cleveland consider moving Noel for pieces that fit a more immediate need, or to stock up in a future draft stronger than this year's? General manager Chris Grant says yes.

"We're open," Grant said. "We're going to look at all our options and make the decision based on what's best for the franchise — short-term and long-term."

Trading away a No. 1 is hard, because if he becomes great, a GM and a team are never allowed to forget that they let that guy get away. So there's another possibility for the Cavs, one that would require a little patience and a little luck: tank again.

We said we'd trade it. They wanna trade it. No one is gonna wanna trade up for the spot unless someone really, really, really likes McLemore or Burke or Porter.

Everyone and their grandmama is pining for lotto picks next year trying to land Wiggins, so...good luck.

I can see why the cave want to trade. They need 3 and the 3's in this draft are bound to slide. The big men in this draft are weak. I would trade it too. I would it trade it for some proven talent if it were me.

Who would want the pick? There is no must have player out there.

    Patrick (Cleveland)

What kind of offers could the Cavs expect for the #1 pick?
    Chad Ford (1:34 PM)

Dont' think Cavs fans will be happy. Just talked to half the GMs in the league, and they are all looking to sell their picks. No one really wants No. 1, nor are they willing to give up a valuable asset to get it. I think the Cavs will have a hard time moving it.

The Pelicans really seemed to get the worst possible draw to fill their needs in this upcoming draft. Is 6 too high for Saric?
    Chad Ford (1:49 PM)

They're fine. Otto Porter was probably their first choice, but he'll be long gone by there. Alex Len seems like a real possibility. You can always use another big and he has a high ceiling and less risk than some of the other players in the draft. Yes, Saric is a possibility here. He's willing to come this year and as a point 3/4 I think he'd add another intriguing dimension to the team.

I'm guessing Demps stayed behind to take part in the big workout that's going on in NY.

In other riveting/ ground-breaking quotes this week, Lebron James was quoted as saying..... get this, "We're going to take this series One Game At a Time." You heard it here, ladies and gentleman!

Lol this from the guy who said " not 3, not 4, not 5,....." Sometimes you have to learn the hard way.

Of course they want to trade out. I seriously doubt they will b able to though. There just isn't a franchise player in this draft. Of course if there was one they wouldn't be looking to trade it.

Dont be surprised to see the Rockets trading some of their young assets to the Cavs OR Magic to get Nerlens Noel.

I'll be pissed if someone bails cleveland out. Let them pick Noel and rot another season or two. If they have any real ambitions of competing they will pick Porter.

nobody is gonna give cleveland squat, haha suck it, i hate cleveland.

But picking Noel is perfect for them this draft. They have 4 picks, and it lets them tank one more year for the loaded draft in which they have multiple picks as well.

can anyone imagine cleveland taking noel who will miss most of the year then landing wiggins next year?

    kyrie
    waiters
    wiggins
    noel
    varejao

How long is Kyrie's contract? He may want to opt of Cleveland.

    Not with that team

This only happens if Kyrie can't stay healthy. Kyrie has become so good, he could carry that team to 500

So Cleveland isn't going to do anything in free agency to get better? They will just stand there and win another lottery? I doubt it. PLus Irving has become too good to win anything less than 35 games by carrying that team.

So how come they didn't win 35 this year?

Because the man is injury prone.

It's a fact many seem to forget.

Missed the majority of his freshman year at Duke.
Missed 15 games during his first year in the league.
Missed he missed 24 games during his second year in the league.

And it doesn't hurt that Cleveland has been all aboard the tank train for the past 2-3 years.

"I'm not going to allow my putative owner to answer that question, this is an NBA related press conference. Paul Tagliabue and Roger Goodell have collectively sung their praises of Tom and if uh ESPN has a problem with that tell Mr. Skipper to call me at my office."
