I am also aware of that. That's why I brought up Entergy, the team's sponsor that is also a publicly traded Fortune 500 company that has no naming rights agreements.

    Yes it does.

Ever notice how the headquarters overlooks the Arena?

Father is old operator that works for Valero, would they be contemplating? I think they have a college bowl game they sponsor already.

They are certainly a large company with such an interest, but they are sponsoring things in their town (San An). This suggests that they have less money available for more Naming Rights, but it's possible.

It also shows that companies try to sponsor things in their home town, which is New Orleans for Entergy.

So, more weight for suspecting Entergy.

I always thought Entergy was a viable option for naming rights, I actually thought they would have jumped on the Superdome before Mercedes did. But these days the only thing I want Entergy to focus on is keeping my damn lights on during a weak tropical storm!

Entergy is in the midst of spinning off its transmission business unit for a joint-ownership agreement with another company and will soon be flush with an extra billion or so in cash. Wouldn't be a bad time for them to sign an arena-naming rights agreement.

I think it will be a company Benson is already affiliated with much like the dome naming rights.

Since I decided to update my court concept, I added Entergy as the arena sponsor. IMO this thing is pure sexiness!

I just don't see what Entergy gains by having naming rights. It is not like their revenue stream is based off of advertising or that the public has a choice when choosing energy carriers.

Some places in Louisiana do and other states have choices.

Entergy the company that dropped the lights at the Superbowl? ESPN will have a field day on that. No thanks!

ESPN will have a field day on whatever they want to anyway.

Sorry, I am still throwing my wagers with one of the ME Carriers...All 3 are fighting for US market share (it's not just about New Orleans) Etihad is starting direct flights to Abu Dhabi from Houston. Now all three fly direct from IAH. They all have plenty of bank to throw around too - more than Zataran's or Cane's. And all three are beyond 1st-Class.

With the NBA All-Start game slated again and Super Bowl LII in 2018, look for an announcement soon.

As I recall, Entergy was approached several times about Dome naming rights and declined each time.

Long time ago if you remember Cincinnati's Riverfront stadium was renamed Cinergy Field, after Cincinnati's utility. The Saints played i think a preseason game there the first year of the new name. Jim Henderson says the following on the radio broadcast:

"Riverfront Stadium is now Cinergy Field. If you guys back in New Orleans want to know what Cinergy is, imagine if the Saints played in the Nopsidome." (I sure hope some of you guys remember what Nopsi was)

One of the issues with naming rights is not only does a compamy have to pay the state, but they also have to pay the networks a kickback otherwise they won't use the name on air. That's what killed a deal between the Superdome and Tobasco.

How about BP Arena? After all, that's where the Louisiana Seafood Council was getting the money they were gonna use for the naming rights when all that was discussed.

Maybe Entergy did make an offer, but Benson went with Mercedes... makes that blackout during the Superbowl all the more suspicious... HMMMMMMM

FYI, I can put any logo on that part of the court. I just picked Entergy out of a hat figuratively speaking!

    entergy is the logical target
in a previous career, entergy was my largest client, and they worked alongside me and my corporate employer at the highest levels
they have been approached every time this has come up, as they are for nearly every heavy-hitter sponsorship opportunity in ever single industry in the state

the fact that their peers (chesapeake, etc) have taken the plunge might make this time different
its a lot of money...with uncertain and sometimes unquantifiable return
