Pelican Takeover Part 2: The Roster

Now that the Pelicans are here and we are heading into the first lottery under the name, the only thing I can think about is rosters. Who should we target here, who should we target there. So its not like you haven't done this on the countless other threads we got going on, but list the roster you want going forward. The difference on this thread (if yall will play along) just tell your starters and bench and a brief comment or not on how you would acquire them, BUT don't criticize or analyze someone's idea. Just list what you could realistically see going forward. Because if the Pelicans are going to takeover, it needs to happen on the court. Granted you may want to wait until the actual lottery takes place...

    Starters

    Bynum (cheap acquisition. 3yr deal)
    Davis
Saric (trade lotto pick back to one of ATL picks)
    Gordon
Schroeder (trade GV for OKC's pick)

    Backups
    Smith
    Anderson
    D. Wright
    Miller
    Rivers
    Roberts
    C. Iverson (second round pick from ATL in above trade)

Bynum as in Andrew? He won't come cheap.

  3. #3
Bynum still plays? Headcase alert! Not a good thing when the Lakers kick you to the curb.

  4. #4
I wouldn't want Bynum even if Pelicans could get him for cheap

  5. #5
    Didn't he say no analyzing?.....

  6. #6
I'd love to get Schroeder and Saric/Pope/a Center.

    Perfect draft scenario.

There's a better chance we get Dwight Howard than Andrew Bynum.

I know you said no analyzing, but I'm sorry, what goes through your mind to want a fragile headcase like Bynum for 3 years? Not understanding it man.

#1 No disrespect but I was asking for your rosters not for your opinion
#2 Bynum hasnt played in quite a long while. These GM's arent going to pay him big bucks to come play for their team. Let me ask you a question, if you give him max deal your getting screwed. Why would anyone do that? He is going to have to earn a max after whatever deal he gets this offseason. I'd sign him for a 3yr deal. And trade him if he continues to be injury prone. If not you got the second best center in this league for cheap

If we're taking a headcase, I'd rather take a headcase that'll stay healthy. Give me Cousins over Bynum.

Also, one who hasn't insulted our city in the past.

    My ideal off season:

    I trade Gordon/Lopez for Bledsoe/Jordan/Green

That trade saves us $4m and locks in our PG of the future to play with out PF of the future (Ant).

It also gives us a big athletic center who can defend and run. If he's never develops into more than what he is today, we give him 20 minutes a game and walk away in 2 years or sign him to a smaller contract than his current one. He gives us a completely different skill set than Anderson, Smith, and AD. I like the versatility that means we'll have.

In the draft I trade back for a veteran SG and a pick. Gordon Hayward and Utah's pick would be enough for me. Same with Wesley Matthews and Portland's pick.

In free agency I throw all my chips at Iguodala or.... Wait for it... Wait for it ...Josh Smith. Either one of those would be the best SF we've had since Mashburn and would be nasty defensively and running lanes when paired with Bledsoe at the point and either Anderson spotting up behind the line, or Jordan going to the rim. Our shooting guard options for various lineups will either be an athletic rookie, Rivers, a young vet acquired via trade, or Willie Green.

I think that team gets in playoff contention next year.

    Bledsoe
    Gordon Hayward
    Josh Smith
    Davis
    Jordan

    Backups:
    Anderson
    Green
    Rivers
    Smith
    Vasquez
Jamal Franklin (acquired with Utah pick)
    Miller
    Roberts

    Eric Bledsoe/Rivers
    Tyreke Evans/McLemore
    Martell Webster/A. F. Aminu
    Anthony Davis/Ryan Anderson
    DeAndre Jordan/Jason Smith

Bledsoe and Jordan for Eric Gordon/Lopez because it's the rumored deal, if its true that people in the clipps front office saying that it COULD go down, that means it's been discussed with the Pelicans, so this COULD have legs.

Tyreke Evans with the Money we would have spent on a Pg in free agency, possible sign and trade for Greivis Vasquez

Martell Webster free agent signing, falls under athletic shooter/scorer, a guy that Monty has coached.

Aminu, i think with the time that they have put into developing him already, the money we have, and the fact that he'll be cheap means I THINK he's a lock to return.

And i think we land the #2 pick in this draft and we take Ben Mclemore, if not, like some one else mentioned, i hope we trade down, pick up a couple of picks and draft Pope and Gobert. Gobert is a guy i would like to see us get back up in the teens to draft anyway, trade or purchase.

I didn't go beyond those 10 guys, because the end of the bench should be up for grabs.

I thought Gordon Hayward was a SF

What i heard from physicians is that Bynum's knees will most likely hold up 2 years max. Take it or leave it.

    No offense, but BARF.

I'd much much rather just draft Porter and roll with the roster we have now
    Wherehappens.

I'd love to buy a 2nd round pick off a team for Tony Mitchell who slid from possible lottery pick to 2nd round over the course of the college basketball season

    Vasquez/Rivers/Roberts

    Kevin Martin/Oladipo/Roberts

    Danny Granger/Wes Johnson/Miller

    Davis/Andersen

    Lopez/ J. Smoove

    Pels get Oladipo 5 Overall
Gordon to Indiana for Granger and 1st rd. 2014 (lottery protected) pending he passes physical. He has 1 yr. left on contract, and is expendable, I think he will bounce back next yr. Gordon gets to to go home.
Sign Wes Johnson 4 yrs. 20 mil., Improved last year, let him come off the bench behind Granger, maybe he could develop into a starter for 2014
Sign Kevin Martin 3yrs. 21 mil., Is a proven starter, let Oladipo devlop behind him

2 picks in 2014 draft, still a player in 2014 free agency. With Lopez gone in 2014 keep an eye on Greg Monroe in 2014

I like but we could go Gerald Henderson, he maybe cheaper than Tyreke. I'd also like Brandon Rush as a 2/3 if he opts out of his contract
    Bledsoe, Rivers
    Henderson, McLemore/Olidipo, Rush
    Webster, Aminu, Rush
    Davis, Ryno
    Jordan, Smith

Bynum? And you thought Gordon has injury concerns...

We're not getting rid of Gordon as 'm not gonna even dream... but we do have some money and we can make a couple moves to really help ourselves.

** Note - i'm merely throwing salary numbers out there I don't care what we sign them to I just hope we sign them!

We need a center NOW... cut Lopez and sign Al Jefferson 3 years 36 mill.
Draft the best SF on the board... I'm thinking Otto porter.
Re-sign Darius Miller to continue to develop
Resign Lou Amundson... dude provides depth and an extra 6 fouls for our bigs.
We can use another veteran 2/3 on the bench... any combination of 2 of these guys will work...

Carlos Delfino 2 years 10 mill
Kyle Korver 2 years 9 mill
Francisco Garcia 2 years 5 mill
Matt Barnes 2 years 5 mill

All of these guys can SHOOT, and except for Korver... they all can play SOME defense.

I don't think Monty wants to get rid of Greivis... he loves this dude. And Austin and Roberts can provide solid depth (I hope Austin gets the start).

    Here's a solid roster:

    Greivis/Austin/Roberts
    Gordon/Garcia/Mason Jr
    Porter/Delfino/Miller
    AD/Ryno/Amundson
    Jefferson/Smith

If we can sign a SF in free agency that's worth starting (Iggy) then we can draft a guy like Burke, and maybe flip Greivis for something.

So many options... should be fun watching it unfold.

The same could have been said of Gordon and yet he was offered a max.

It's going to be a long year if I have to watch Vasquez run the point for 35+ minutes a game again.

Very true. And if someone else offered him the max I would refrain and turn to Al Jefferson. However, if you could get him on the cheap, why not? "Oh he's bad dude", I am sorry not every player in the league is going to be an angel. Winning always make things better. And what many forget is that Bynum knows how to and knows how to play well with another big next to him.

Hey, the bottom line is this: we MUST get a big that can score and more importantly rebound. I like Lopez but he showed that you must have a big at the five that can pull down some boards. AD isnt ready to play the 5. By the way is it crime to want to keep him at the 4 the rest of his career? We need rebounders and guys who can defend the paint. Too many drives to the hole on us, too many 3 rebound games from our 5 position.

Mine is less dramatic, but i like it a lot.

    Burke/ Rivers/ B Roberts
    EJ/ Rivers/ D Miller
    C. Brewer/ Aminu/ D Miller
    AD/ Ryno/ J Smith
    Rudy G/ AD/ J Smith

THis is getting a mid-teens pick from some random team that'll take a Rolo/ GV trade for their pick (to get Rudy G). This gets us our core that we've been looking for, it's not terribly expensive, and i'm probably forgetting about a couple of players... but i've had some wine.
