Thread: NBA Draft Combine Tomorrow (5/16/13)/Measurements pg. 6

The most interesting thing for me was Nerlens Noel's weight. 206 pounds is absolutely crazy. For comparison, Davis was 222. There's no way that guy will be able to play with Anthony Davis any time in the next several years. Davis managed to have an extremely good rookie year, but his weight was an enormous issue---he got pushed around on defense by anyone with a grown man's body, and he couldn't establish post position on anyone. He mitigated this by developing a terrific sense of how to use the baseline to basically hide and then attack when a guard had drawn someone in or when a shot went up. From waching Noel, I don't think he's as smart as Davis, nor does he have as good a sense of timing. He also lacks the other facets of Davis's game that allow him to exist on an NBA court right now on offense---the ability to hit really difficult finishes off of the pick and roll or handoffs, the jumper from the elbow, the beginnings of a faceup game. All Noel has right now is the ability to convert lobs and putbacks and an embryonic hook which he won't be able to establish position to use---more early career Tyson Chandler than Davis, except Chandler was more like Davis's weight (224) and was a legit 7 footer.

I truly believe if the Pelicans get the first pick, they need to trade out or simply take someone else. It's totally overlapping skillsets, except one guy is better than the other more or less across the board. It's the equivalent of buying a fully upgraded car with a supercharged engine, then turning around the next year and getting the basic version of the same car without all the upgrades, except this one has a cracked windshield that needs to be replaced so you won't be able to drive it for a while. I know everyone loves the idea of two shotblockers, but I really think it would limit the development of both players and even long-term isn't a great pairing offensively---in the short-term, it would be a disaster.

Ok so Burke is .5" taller than Chris in shoes. It's funny the difference an inch makes. If he test better than expected athletically he could definitely be looking at going to the Magic with a top 3 pick. Of course Noel also has helped himself with his measurements and rehab process.

He won't go #3, not if they're smart. I also think they're going to get #1. Noel or McLemore all day. I'm more worried about PHX stealing him before us.

I'm just glad it seems that people are going to be whining as much when we take Burke @ 5
    Wherehappens.

That inch really is a big deal for Burke. I like him and he was fun to watch play in the tourney. I have been concerned about his height, but this definitely helps. I'm still not sure he is worth a top three pick, but if the Pels get 5 or later and he is there he would be a great pick.

On the other hand I was already down on Noel and his weight just adds another layer of concern. I think he might turn into a good player, but I think he is a bad fit with the Pelicans and I hope they stay away from him.

I have to laugh when people say Davis can't play center but view Noel as one.

At 206 Noel C is far down the road for him. Unless he has some freakish type weight gain regiment. I will say he seems a little stronger than Davis but he will get hurt playing the 5 right now.

Replace Noel with Porter then we agree

I really don't think Noel is a good fit for this team.

Why would we not interview all of the top players?

I'm not saying it means anything. I am sure we will interview most if not all top ten projected players.

Chris Mannix ‏@ChrisMannixSI 4m Steven Adams continues to tantalize GM's with his potential. Having a very good two days here. His high skill level is real.

Kids stock is soaring right now.

Your KILLINGME! PLEASE STOP!!!!! Anyone think Gobert might break top 5? If he really impresses in the athletic testing he damn well might.

I tell you what, if we miss out on Burke, I wouldn't mind if Demps traded back and took Gobert and Schroeder.

Iggy is known more for his defense than his offense

when i said one trick pony I was saying strictly offense... His comparison is Nick Young!?! Would you want that on your team especially a person who only cares about his own stats

"Through my work ethic, talking to guys like Chris Paul, I pretty much have a clue of what it takes to get into that elite class (of point guards)," Burke said. "Chris Paul, he's a small guard, and he came in and started dominating -- made an impact right away. He was able to make plays for his team, be a defensive threat.

"I have no doubt in my mind I can come in and make an impact. Right away."

Love his kind of confidence. Nothing fake or cocky about it he just believes in his work ethic.

You can be comparable to someone without being a friggin' clone of them. Not to mention that Nick Young's game could NEVER be called physical.

He's got the ability to be a great slasher though. One of the strengths in that DraftExpress vid was he can make straight line drives. And Kansas ran alley oops plays and he knows how to run off screens.
