    2013 Free Agent Targets

Making this thread so I dont keep spamming the forum with seperate threads so I figured I could have this one and just use it over and over for free agents I would be interested in acquiring.

Mods feel free to delete my Jordan Hill thread I just made.

Anyways the point of this thread is to look at other Centers who could replace Robin Lopez if we find a great trade value for him because of his good contract and production.

Also Robin Lopez had a phenominal season, if you go look at his numbers he produced very well offensively and defensively. He just didn't give much in rebounding.

If we can trade Lopez for a nice piece and sign maybe one of these guys for the same price and get similar production, it would basically be like keeping Lopez and getting a good player for free (besides the player's contract obviously).

    C/PF - Jordan Hill - 25

Next year Jordan Hill is an unrestricted free agent
(He is NOT an UFA this year)

This year he played very well when dwight and pau missed time at both C and PF and continued to play well when they returned as backed both of them up

Big men take the longest time to develop and he looks to be coming along. He played very well in his 17 minutes per game.

    Per 36 minutes he averaged 15.5 points - 13 rebounds - 1.5 blocks

He was not only a very good rebounder but he scored extremely efficiently shooting 50% from the field with an offensive rating of 113, the highest of his career, and was very good defensively with a rating of 105.

He also has an above average mid range game. Would love to have him at Center for the right price.

    C/PF Andray Blatche - 26

    2013 Unrestricted Free Agent

Another big I liked this year who seemed like Jordan Hill to also mature a bit and finally develop his great talents. This is one reason I am against drafting bigs, unless of course someone like Anthony Davis.

In Blatche's 20 minutes a game he performed quite well, he has also had incredible offensive talents with his combination of athleticism, mid range shot and post moves but always failed at shooting a high percentage, NOT this year. This season he shot an amazing 51.2% from the field but thats not the best part, he was finally a willing defender and was a terror for opposing bigs using his athleticism and size.

    Per 36 minutes he averaged 20 points - 10 rebounds - 2 steals - 1.5 blocks

    His offensive rating was 107
but what really blew my mind was his defensive rating of 101!

He has a complete offensive game and if he continues to hustle on defense like he has this season he will be a true all around player, and a devastating one at that.

He is only 26 and I think would be a nice pickup.

    C/PF Marreese Speights - 25

    2013 Player Option - 4.5 million

With the season he is having I fully expect him to opt out and go into free agency, he is having a great year and being only 25 someone will pay him more than 4.5 million from his production alone.

He played for both memphis and cleveland this year:

    Per 36 minutes:
    Grizzlies: 16 points - 12 rebounds
    Cleveland: 20 points - 10 rebounds
Both teams averaged together: 18 points - 11 rebounds

Speights reminds me a lot of zach randolph actually, big, strong, good rebounder, good post game, good mid range, he knows how to use his body weight and is also an excellent FT shooter at 80%

His minutes this season for both teams have both come from the Center position so don't think he cant play the center spot.

While his isnt great defensively, he isnt bad either, I would say average, but his offense and rebounding more than makes up for it.

    C - Timofey Mozgov - 26

    2013 Restricted Free Agent

Don't see Denver matching any kind of deal since they dont have the cap and also have McGee and Koufus.

This is a guy I like a lot who could be had for cheap since he is getting hardly any minutes in denver, NOT because he is bad, because they are a fast pace full court running team. Javale McGee fits their team better.

Mozgov is a giant 7"1 255, and when giving the minutes, he has produced nice numbers while being efficient.

    Per 36 minutes: 11 points - 11 rebounds - 2 blocks

Shooting 51% from the field and 77% from the FT line, he only takes what is given to him and produces when given the chance.

Sure he got posterized by blake griffin, but who hasnt? Griffin pushed off and threw the ball instead of dunking it anyway.

Point is Mozgov is a brute who can rebound and defend the rim and won't back down, he would be a good fit next to Davis and IF had for cheap would be one of those players who far out produces his cheap contract.

Mozgov is a what you see is what you get. A giant who rebounds, blocks and protects the rim. who also scores efficiently and who wont be a liability because he is a good FT shooter.

His game does not rely on athleticism at all so he will have a long career.

    C - Cole Aldrich - 24

    7ft 250

    2013 Unrestricted Free Agent

Once again, same story, bigs take longer to develop.

This year cole averaged 12 minutes a game, which is not much, but when on the floor he was a beast.

He reminds me a TON of Jeff Withey

This season Cole's average per 36 minutes was:

    10.5 points - 13 rebounds - 3 blocks

He shot a rediculously high 57% from the field and 73% from the FT
This high offense output earned him an awesome offensive rating of 112
His defense as usual was great with a rating of 106
Also his rebounding was dominant with a True Rebounding rate of 21%

If he could be had on the cheap I think he would be a good get.

Also he posted a nice .110 win share.

I'll still keep Robin Lopez over these guys.

Like I stated u wouldnt be keeping robin lopez over 1 of these guys, ud be keeping robin lopez over one of these guys and another player we ould get by robin lopez, but u go ahead and keep him.

I will. Cole Aldrich doesn't have an offensive game, Mozgov is only good for length purposes, Speights and Blatche are blackholes on offense that play absolutely no defense whatsoever and Hill hasn't shown me much since he got into the league.

    Cool.

U can find a problem with anyone if u look. I love robin lopez, but he is a 7 footer who cant rebound...

I'm sorry but if ur telling me u'd rather robin lopez than eric bledsoe AND jordan hill I think ur insane.

I'd take Lopez over any of these guys and anything we could reasonably get for Lopez.

why are you only listing PFs and backup centers? those are the LAST of our needs.

I'm not opposed to upgradeing the center position, but IMO is't not a priority. IMO FA dollars should be spent on finding a few reliable small forwards and maybe some depth at Shooting Guard, until the lottery draft is heals and we have a better idea of who we might land there.

But I do understand Robins lack of rebounding is only going to be magnified if Aminu isn't resigned.

Because some of us don't see him as a long term solution. Trading him while his value is high could net us a better player.

I think he is more valuable to us than as a trading piece. But, who knows?

Good year as in what? I like Robin, but lets not fool ourselves. He doesnt do what you want your center to do.

Guru: I liked how you wrote nice things about every player. You should become an agent. You would get 'em nice contracts.

  21. #21
He's saying assuming we trade Lopez (in a package or whatever) to upgrade another position, which is a bigger need and most assume Lopez is not here for the long or short term anyway, what C FA would you look at to replace Lopez. It doesn't even have to be an upgrade per se, just a replacement. I was thinking about this awhile back too, because most trade threads involve us packaging GV and or Lopez to get a better wing or guard.

I'm looking for the cheap, serviceable level to maintain some cap flexibility, a good rebounder, tough defender, and a locker room leader/someone with experience. Nothing fancy, but someone who'll help with player development while still being competitive. Lopez with less offense/potential and more defense/rebounding/experience.
    never assume

  22. #22
Keep Lopez but we need another starter or a really good backup @ center. Depth is the most important thing needed this offseason bc this young team is very inconsistent.

    contract up:

    1. terrell harris - we can do better
    2. xavier henry - never liked his game, I'm sick of hearing about his potential
    3. amundson - plays hard, but expendable with jason smith returning
    4. roger mason jr. - contract is up
    5. aminu - i like his rebounding and defensive ability, and only player who may be resigned.

    potential trade bait:

    1. eric gordon - hes cancer that needs to get away from davis. he has no heart, and crumbles in the 4th. must trade.
    2. vasquez - defensive liability. his trade value is higher now than it will ever be. demps knew what he was doing by getting lopez and vasquez. we had a throwaway year, so why not boost value of young cheap players than trade them for talent he wants.
    3. lance thomas - not very talented, but good locker room guy
    4. lopez - ceiling is hit, trade value is high

    on contract for next year:
    1. grevis vasquez, brian roberts
    2. eric gordon, austin rivers
    3. darius miller
    4. anthony davis, ryan anderson, lance thomas
    5. robin lopez, jason smith

cap room: 24 million (14 more if gordon traded)

    free agent options coming soon:

It takes a while for a big man to develop (you said it yourself), now our big man is really coming into his own and we want to bring in one of these guys?

    Pass.
If you Jimmer it, they will come.
