Sorry but his assist per game do not tell the story. He gets many assist by passing to an open Ryno for 3. A pass that you and I both could make. This system is an assist friendly system for a ball dominant pg. Collison Was in the top 5 in the nba in assist per game in this same system.
I hope we can all agree that Vasquez puts in the most effort possible and we all appreciate it as fans. The effort and dedication that Vasquez displays is why a lot of us including myself want Vasquez to be successful and to be successful here, because that type of work effort can only be good for a locker room. That being said he simply is not fast enough to help maximize the potential of Davis and to guard the other top pgs in the league come playoff time. I hear a lot that teams such as the lakers won without great pgs, but those pgs knew specially what was expected of him and how to get the best out of the rest of the team. I do not believe Vasquez is not quick enough to run with Davis or the vision to find the cuts and creases that simply only a few guards can do. I wish the best of luck to Vasquez and if he turns out to be our starting point guard then I will be his biggest supporter. Until then in Dell we Trust.
In Dell we trust
Well said and I'll always root for Vasquez no matter where he winds up. Just pointing his flaws out that can and will hold a team back. His vision isn't bad. But it's only average at best. He can actually improve on something like that. His speed is what he can't change which is below avg. I wish him well tho and hope the best for him whether it's here or there.
If it's such an assist-friendly system then what are you complaining about? We can just stick Terrell Harris there then.. When he makes an assist, it's a hockey assist. When he makes a difficult pass, yall say he tries too hard. Well, he has played more conservative because that is what Monty wanted. Monty has talked about telling guys not to go for the home run plays. Can't blame him. I guess he just wants these guys to focus on putting the ball in the hoop first.
Anyways, Vasquez's turnovers went down as a result. When you make risky passes, you increase your chance of a turnover. Then yall will be in here talking about his high turnovers again. There aint that many guys available who will give you 12 or however many assists yall would rather see night in and not out with 3 or less turnovers. The great pg's are all taken. Bledsoe is a backup. Burke is tbd. And I like how Vasquez was the reason for all the losses on a team whose best player was a rookie and the second best player was a streaky 3-point specialist coming off the bench.
P/sAnd let the man have a positive thread for once. Were the 82 game threads of Vasquez-bashing not enough?
Sometimes I dream... that he is me.
Like Greivis... if I could be like Greivis.
It always comes down to the same things, when we'll have chris paul or burke *ironic* passing to an open rhyno, people here will say "AW, **** WHAT A BEAAUUUUUUTIFUL PASS, NAHMEAN?!" *shrugs*
No but we can plug Brian Roberts in there and still get those same assist but have a guy that can stay in front his man on defense. Your right tho. Let this be a positive thread for him. No need to discuss all this. It's about his endorsement deal. I've already congratulated him and I wish him well.
I don't understand your logic. I swear you guys are making this stuff up. What statisical facts say that Vasquez was a "poor pg"??? And what does it say about the opposing pgs that he average 13 and 10 on? Should they be replaced too??? The Hornets/Pelicans defense was ranked in middle of the league and Vasquez offensive statisics were pretty good for a young pg like him. Good enough to considered for comeback player of the year. And my reference to JuJu was based on everyone's call for a so called super athletic and super fast PG. I didn't think Vasquez was bad in staying in front of his man but I also didn't think it was spectualuator either. He's 3 years out of college. What do you expect? Besides, Dell and Monty weren't talking about improving the starting pg. They were talking about the backup pg position. Roberts and Rivers were horrible. Vasquez was playing 40 minutes a game and as soon as Rivers or Roberts came in, it was a huge drop off.
Since when is 6'1" the same as 4'10" ? the average PG height in 2011 was 6'1".
You took 15" off the poor man. That's like me saying Dwight is 5'7"
"I don't know if people know — I dislocated my pinkie finger. And [Tyreke] told me, 'You wanna go home or you wanna be here?' I want to be here. And he said, 'All right, then go tape it up and let's play. Let's go. We not stoppin' at no stores. Straight gas. That's what we do, just keep going.'"

Roberts is 6'1 so not sure what your talking about. Roberts progressed really nice through the season. He had some very good games down the stretch when he got the start. Roberts solidified his spot on this roster I believe. I think he will be our 2nd unit pg IF we get a new pg. we can go back n forth all day. It all really comes down to this. I don't see us being a SERIOUS contender with Vasquez being our starting pg. not gonna happen. I want our team to be a contender so yes I will point out the weak spots. Not sure why a select few get so upset about Vasquez being called slow and an avg to below avg pg. he is better suited to be the man on a 2nd unit. It is what it is.
Love his fire. Wouldn't want to play against him Vasquez is a gamer
No one is upset, but I disagree with your saying he is a bad passer and selfish player and the sentiment that you can plug and play any average Joe like yourself into the system and he would become an assist leader. I think you may have just started following this team or something. Anyone who watched the team last season saw Vasquez's passing abilities even without Ryan Anderson on the team. Goose and him were a beautiful tandem. We were around here joking about them being Crescent City Connection Part II (of course in all fun).
To go back to the assist-friendly system, Roberts was a small sample size and a bandwagon people jumped on too soon from one game. I mean everybody was hitting in that game. Just to put things in perspective, Jarrett Jack is way faster than Vasquez and plays better defense. Yet he did not become an assist leader in this same "assist-friendly" system. He never won Western Conference Player of the Week. Last season, Monty found himself compromising between Jack's speed and scoring and Vasquez's ability to get his teammates more involved. And to be clear, I am not trying to argue one point guard is better than the other, and I understand the different rosters. But the system isn't as assist-friendly as you're trying to make it.
No I've been following this team since it came to new Orleans. I'm not no bandwagon fan lol. I'm a new Orleans boy raised my whole life here. I'm not meaning to put the guy down n say he's horrible but he has many flaws. He has a hard time passing the guy open. Understand what I mean by that? I'm sure u do. All I'm saying is Vasquez got many assist by passing to an open Ryno who knocks down the 3. Nothing special about that. Are u saying Roberts didn't come in toward the end of the season when he got his 1st start n got like 15+ assist in that game. He excelled in those games he started in. Do I want Roberts to be our starter? No..I don't want Vasquez either tho. Are u telling me u think we can be a SERIOUS contender with him running our team?? Not a 7-8 seed but a legit threat. I don't wanna argue or nothing but I just think we need an upgrade. I like the kid and love the fire he brings to the team. Gotta go my baby's being born now it's time!!!!!! Lol...talk later!!! Hahah
I don't mind keeping GV as long as we get a really good backup to match up with quicker guards.
If we can surround with him supreme talent then I'd be ok with it too. I just want us to win a championship and don't think we can with him as our starting pg. That's all. Don't hate the dude or nothing. He attempted more shots than davis and just as many as Gordon and Anderson. That shouLdnt be happening. His turnovers actually went up from last year to this year by 1. If he could understand his role more and learn to defer to the better players throughout the game then he could be better. There is no reason he should be#1 in attempted shots on the team. Just shouldn't be. IMO..I think he tried to be the hero with the game on the line way too many times this year also. He attempted almost twice as many shots as last year in only 8-9 more min. His lack of quickness kills him in the steal department as well. He avg 0.9 steals a game the year before. He avg 10 more min played per game this year and his steals per game actually decreased. His passion and drive for the game is what is impressive but it only gets u so far. I think we will trade Vasquez tho with his value being at an all time High. If we don't I won't be upset tho cause we have other positions that need upgraded as well. Just my opinion on the kid and ppl seem to think if u critique him you hate him or something.
I don't agree with anything you just said, but that's your opinion and I respect it. TP, Curry, Chalmers, Nate Robinson, Conley, Jackson, Felton, Hill... Outside of Curry and TP, not a lot of household names. You can win without a top shelf of, how many titles does CP have? Get a better center, and a better sf... heck even see what Gordon can give you for 82 games, and then replace GV. Roberts had a good run, and it was very promising, but remember, he isn't just older than than GV and has more professional experience than GV, he didn't do much better than GV in his time as starter. GV is going to improve, just like Nash did, just like DX did, just like every player that has gone home in the offseason and improved one aspect of his game.
If you Jimmer it, they will come.
Trust me man I hope he does improve and becomes better in the places he lacks. We know his speed isn't going to get better but there are other things he can improve. I'm rooting for him. I said we could win with him and don't mind him being our guy if we could surround him with supreme talent. Teams that did win with an avg pg had supreme talent on those teams. Im assuming you were referring to the part where I said I don't think we can be serious contender with him as our pg. Cause all the numbers I put out there are facts. Do u not agree with me that he shouldn't be the guy that avgs the most shot attempts?? I'd hope so. Also, he is only in year 2 of his very short nba career thus far. He def can improve and grow. How much he has already dramatically improved is a very good sign. Hope he can continue the upward trend. I think u can ask many on this board and I was 1 of if not the biggest Vasquez supporter at 1 point early on. As time went on tho his lack of lateral quickness hurt us badly on defense. We will find out soon enough what our plan is tho. If he is our guy I'm all for it. If he isn't I'm all for it. Either way I'm ok with it. I trust dell and Monty's evaluations over mine or anyone's on this board. Lol
