no one player ever does that. Lebron couldn't do it with the scrubs in cleveland, Jordon had Pippen, Kobe had Shaq, etc etc. But in a couple years, with Davis, with Oladipo/Porter, with Anderson, with Gordon, or the nice pieces we'll get from him, or the nice player we'll sign with the cap from losing him, all those pieces with the best floor general in the game having helped them develop and gain that feisty attitude, sounds like a championship caliber team to me.

And even if you say cap won't let us keep all those pieces, an older but still savy and effiecient CP3 with Davis in his Prime could be that big two, hell Dwade is 31 and look at his production. And if we keep our pick and still pieces like Rivers and Anderson could be a championship level team.

I just can't see any basketball reason to not want CP on this team
    never assume

Davis is years away from being in his prime. Does CP have years to give? He seems to want his championship now and not have to wait for years. I thought this thread was to be more about wanting Bledsoe but of course....

The title says CP3 and Clippers, and the first post says:

it is kinda clearly about Chris Paul too

This requires a ton of assumptions and doesn't leave room for any deviations. I'm not thrilled about Rivers ceiling.

Again it's all opinions which is what sports are about. I don't see that team anything but a 1st round exit any time soon.

Tim Duncan was only in his 2nd year when he won his 1st championship with SA. Guys like Paul, Gordon, and Anderson would carry the load, and Davis could just be a great role player next year. He doesn't have to be a superstar yet for us to get far in the playoffs, although playing with CP would turn him into a great player much quicker.

Your plan requires way more assumptions, hoping our draft picks actually develop like they should, which is certainly not a given in the NBA. And how could you not think a team with headliners like Paul, Gordon, Davis, and Anderson is a championship team? Add in whoever we draft this year and role players like Vasquez, Lopez, JSmith, Miller (if he develops like he should), plus the veteran minimum guys that would want to play with CP (like Matt Barnes). That is certainly a championship team in a year or 2.

Was Tim Duncan a role player in his 2nd year? So you think CP would be willing to give us years? Wish on nolaslim. I will no longer try to steal your joy.

Did Tim Duncan have Chris Paul, Eric Gordon, and Ryan Anderson? I'm just asking because 99 was before my time, so I don't remember. I thought it was mostly Duncan and Robinson, but the point stands that Davis doesn't have to be in his prime to win a championship. And don't worry, my joy is unwavering

They had guys like Avery Johnson, Mario Ellie, Sean Elliot, Malik Rose.... being coached by Gregg Popovich. Of course Davis doesn't have to be in his prime to win a championship. You're not answering my question though in do you really think Paul would be willing to give the Pelicans years to win a championship while waiting for Davis to develop? You're also counting on Gordon being healthy?

For sure, if CP came here, and we didn't win a championship until his 3rd year, he'd be ecstatic. A championship is a championship. Furthermore, he'd still have a year left on his contract, and Davis/Rivers would be hitting their prime. CP would be what? 30? That isn't old, especially for a PG. We could even sign him to an extension and win like 3 or 4 more!

Not assuming. It takes elite talent evaluators. If Demps is the GM for this team he will need to be exceptional in that area.

Once again you think that's a championship core I strongly disagree.

  14. #139
Guess it depends on what you consider "core" I think we have 3 guys that could play on a championship. 2 starters and a role player.

"I don't know if people know — I dislocated my pinkie finger. And [Tyreke] told me, 'You wanna go home or you wanna be here?' I want to be here. And he said, 'All right, then go tape it up and let's play. Let's go. We not stoppin' at no stores. Straight gas. That's what we do, just keep going.'"

Duncan was several years older and more advanced than AD. He averaged almost 22/11. And he had the Admiral.

aD is years away. CP isn't coming.

If only there were some way to measure how much a crappy team improves with the addition of CP? Oh wait, this just happened two years ago! The Clippers went from 32-50 to 40-26 (50-32 if you prorate out to 82 game season). And they traded their best player (and others) to get him, while we'd still have room to add. I'd say 45-50 wins if we added Paul to what we had last year, and 55 would definitely be in play if we got a full season from Gordon (ha!).

The Clippers are a much more experienced team. We are dealing with a lot of youth/inexperience and shortage of talent. I think Paul instantly turns us into a bottom playoff team, but is that where we want to be the way the team is currently constructed? IMO I would say no.

Now they are, but at the time of the trade, they were basically CP, Blake and DeAndre Jordan. Added the experience after, just like we would do. And I think bottom playoff team is exactly what we should be shooting for next year. With Davis, Anderson, draft pick, Gordon (maybe) all having plenty of room to grow, that would be a championship core.

the butthurt the league would express if CPME joined the Pelicans is almost worth wanting it to happen.

We would of technically got Eric Gordon and the Minny pick for 2 bad seasons. lol
