How to Acquire both Dwight and CP3

A guy on another board looked at the salaries of every team and worked out a process on how they can acquire both CP3 and Dwight. Here is what he had to say about New Orleans:

    New Orleans
Step 1. Decline player options on Lopez, Miller, and Roberts
Step 2. Trade Ryan Anderson and Austin Rivers to the Pistons for pick 7 to free up the cap space for step 3
Step 3. Sign both Howard and Paul
    CP3/Vasquez
    Gordon/Vet
    Thomas/Pick 5
    Davis/Pick 7
    Dwight/Smith

    Thoughts?

It's possible. Of course it's highly unlikely. But that doesn't mean it's impossible.

By the way, you should know that I upvote nearly every comment you post at /r/nba.

How much cap space do we have after this season ?

Vasquez and Lopez could go right in a trade package ?

No. No. No. CP3, I'll take. Dwight Howard, no. Schizophrenia should not be allowed in this league. I disagree with the trading of Ryno and AR. Trade Gordon if cap needs to be cleared. I dunno. I don't get it.

... and hire another coach, because I don't see Monty and Howard working things out.

Pretty much any pelican flair is an instant upvote.

Trade Anderson and Rivers to Detroit for pick #7? I'd shoot myself. No offense, but that just horrible value...

The way we do it is sign CP to the max with our cap space outright. Then, we trade Anderson, Lopez, and Vasquez + our 2014 1st round pick to LA for Howard.

    PG - CP, Roberts
    SG - Gordon, Rivers
SF - Draft Otto Porter, Miller
PF - Davis, JSmith, Vet Min FA
    C - Howard, JSmith, Amundson?

That said, I can't see it happening. CP is much more likely because of his ties to the city and Monty, but Howard is more of a money chaser.

Same here! I know that's probably not what we're supposed to do, but there are so few of us I feel like we need to stick together.

In your case we lose Anderson, Vasquez, and a pick. In the other case we lose Anderson and Rivers, but get another Lottery Pick. Get Shabazz/ Porter with one, Bennet with the other. Not sure how Anderson, Lopez, Vasquez, and 2014 pick is great value.

I mean, its not like we aren't contributing to discussion. Our comments are usually relevant/ witty/ or thought worthy. Its worth those upvotes. Nothing wrong if you like what another person has to say haha. I don't upvote plain stupidity or antagonistic remarks, but I also rarely ever see that in Pelican Fans.

Firstly, we couldn't sign Howard with cap space. He wouldn't take a little less to come here like CP would. It would have to be the original team max, which means we have to trade for him with the Lakers, and LA wouldn't let him go for nothing. Secondly, we could get much better value for Anderson straight up than a freaking #7 overall pick in a draft where there are 5 legitimate players.

CBA clarification: I know that if you're over the lux, you can't S&T for the original team's max contract. Is that just if you're over lux, or is that the new rule for any player?

What Thomas would this be in the starting lineup? LANCE Thomas?

I think you miss the point that this is not realistic in anyway and hypothetical situation. It was merely a method of obtaining both while being able to offer two maxes. Secondly, I prefer the line up above because we would still be in good shape for the future with 2 top 10 draft picks, not giving up a future, and having vasquez off the bench as the first guard which should be his ideal role. He can play off the ball the relieve Gordon too.

We have different opinions, and thats fine because none of this is likely to happen.

This wasn't created by a Pelicans fan. I would assume you would start the small forward that would be drafted by one of those two picks. Besides that, it would give us arguably the best front and backcourts in the league.

I'm sorry guys but Chris Paul isn't coming back to new Orleans.lol..seriously he just isn't. No need to even entertain it.

You mean, the most important and least likely to happen point lol?

"I don't know if people know — I dislocated my pinkie finger. And [Tyreke] told me, 'You wanna go home or you wanna be here?' I want to be here. And he said, 'All right, then go tape it up and let's play. Let's go. We not stoppin' at no stores. Straight gas. That's what we do, just keep going.'"

    Yes, that one.

The time may come for stars to want to be here, but this offseason is not it.

    Patience.

I'm not sure why this lack of spending is burning a hole in people's virtual pockets.

42, I just saw an interesting post and thought it would be a good idea to put it here for discussion. We know this isn't going to happen nor did I imply it, but alas, its the offseason and things are a bit slow. I don't bank my hopes on fairy tales.

I think we can reap some benefit from all the mess in LA, just not sign those guys.

Lets not rush and build slow... A young team that gells together and matures is the best way to go
Howard will never come here and cp3 will be in win now mode.

I'd rather keep Anderson than Howard...

if the hornets decline lopez, miller, thomas and roberts they have 36 million to spend. Could the hornets afford cp3 and dwight? Sure, and i think benson would go over the soft cap and just spend the tax. then draft otto porter

    cp3
    gordon
    porter
    davis
    dwight

    doubt it happens though

There is a very low chance CP3 or DH would come to this team. Both players are looking for things we simply cannot offer at this time (team willing to go over luxury tax, lots of exposure and ability to win championships). I’m not sure getting DH and CP3 at a max cost would be the best way to continue the rebuild. Yes, the team would be instant contenders but our salary cap would be maxed out without a descent bench. Personally, I would continue to build the team the way it’s being done right now. Add talented rookies and BALANCE the roster with experienced players who can teach the young guys how win in the NBA. A similar process to what Indiana and San Antonio has done. We are 3 steps away (Starting Center, Better PG & above avg SF) from being a playoff team next year and all those needs can be addressed this summer in the draft and free agency.
