    Lottery Winners Since 1994

In 1993 the NBA changed the lottery from 66 ping pong balls to 1,000 when the magic, the best non playoff team won the lottery and #1 pick, since then they now use 1,000. Since then these are the positions that have won them.

    Worst - 2
    2nd - 3
    3rd - 4
    4th - 1
    5th - 4
    6th - 2
    7th - 1
    8th - 1
    9th - 1
    10th - 0
    11th - 0
    12th - 0
    13th - 0
    14th - 0

Looks like that 5th spot has had good luck. And im guessing now we're gonna have that fifth spot when the season ends.

I would be happy even not landing the #1 pick and moving up to 2nd or 3rd and having our choice of mclemore, smart and porter.

If im right we are the only team to win the lottery with the 4th spot since they changed the lottery system.

You think Noel goes #1 don't ya?
Purely because of the hype of Davis from last years draft, I think he does too providing his knee recovers well.

why not just post the probabilities . . . they show the chances. This empirical stuff is just a bad approximation.

Also, how many of those teams won a title with their top pick before losing him?

I'll tell you, since I was fussed at last week by someone too lazy to get on the internet: 0.

Top 5 and going into the whole lottery era: Robinson, Duncan, Wade, Milicic (rookie that season who did nearly nothing). You can add in Ewing if you consider losers in 4-3 title series, not just winners.

Those players are good, but the tend to not give a team enough to get to a title without another significant piece of talent (Wade had Shaq).

No, no. It's much more likely to build a franchise that can get talent in a number of ways to that talent can be maintained and managed. It's about giving the GM as many options as possible. Just having the draft is not enough.

To those saying that the Hornets can do that if they get blah blah blah: no, they can't. This is a job to these guys, and they are distracted by money and minutes, then maybe titles. A shiny draft pick does not affect their free agent, etc. decisions as much as something like going to a team without a real practice facility.

Good thing that thing is underway; it will be ready by September, and far less luck is needed to make sure of that than for getting some high draft pick, even with a better lottery slot than the Hornets have.

I honestly don't know if I'd want to win the lottery.

The winning is great. Great options, good trade value. Why not win?

Is the value of that win in ANY lottery draft enough to turn a franchise around? No. Not nearly.

My ideal situation: Pels win the lottery, then trade the top pick to a team at 2-4. They get some goodies for the trade and still get to draft Smart or Porter.

I wouldn't really want the Pels to take the first pick though. Top picks come with a lot of pressure. I can just hear the "two number one picks in a row and still not where they should be" talk. And no one in the draft really seems worth a #1 pick. I think there are about three guys (Noel, McLemore, Smart) who are under consideration to go first. Noel is injured and IMO isn't a great fit for the team. McLemore and Smart both seem like really good prospects, but not really sure-fire #1 type picks.

That's a very small pool of samples for 1000 ping pong balls.

I think there are two guys in this class that stand out, but neither of them really fit our biggest needs (Noel and McLemore). After that I really think spots 3-6/7 are interchangable and we will end up with a good player. I am hoping it's a PG who can push the pace and defend a little more or an athletic wing or big who can score. I'd really be happy with Burke, Smart, Bazz, Porter, Oladipo, or really Len/Zeller. I personally think any of these players has a chance to be an all-star one day.

What pick #7 win the Lotto and the tankers lose their minds, and to think winning against Kings last night could of put us at #7. Time will tell.

Ya i think Noel goes #1 especialy if the bobcats get the pick. mclemore could be another option, right now im just worried about cleveland taking otto porter before we do.

If we did in fact land the #1 pick i'd rather trade down to around 4 and land porter or smart

Don't even really want us to win the lotto actually. We'd be tempted to take Noel and I'm not sure I trust him

I want that number three spot to get Smart. If the Cavs pick third then he could possibly fall to the 4th spot. He's not falling past there, and IMO he's exactly who we need out of this class. Porter would be my second option.

All kinds of options, trade it for 2 first round picks, trade it for a 1st and a player, trade it for a very good player, all kinds of options

we would be fine at the 4 spot, cleveland isnt taking smart with kyrie and waiters no way they would take porter and either smart noel or mclemore would fall to us at 4. The thing is though with the 5th worst record i dont think u can land the 4th pick, only 1 2 3 5 6 7 8
