Varejao was averaging 14 points and 14 rebounds before his injury, but luckily this redraft doesn't take injuries into account. Varejao ranks second among centers in offensive rebound rate and second in defensive rebound rate. Varejao ranks second among power forwards and centers in offensive rebound rate and third in defensive rebound rate. So long story short, Varejao is atleast a top three rebounder in the NBA, amongst all players. But that isn't all Varejao is elite at. He's also an elite pick and roll defender allowing just 0.64 points per pick and roll, allowing a unheard of 31.8% shooting. He also allows just 0.83 points in the post on 41% shooting.

Varejao also knows how to play the pick and roll offensively as well, averaging 1.02 points per pick and roll on 50% shooting. Which makes him a top 50 pick and roll player in the league. Last season he averaged 1.09 points per roll on 62% shooting. Which made him a top 35 player in the league. This is obviously huge for the Kings as they now have two pick and roll options for one of the leagues premier pick and roll guards, James Harden.

According to this... Anderson Varejo tested as the NBAs worst interior defender

Varejeo numbers are a little inflated if you ask me. He is a poor interior defender who often doesn't contest the shot in effort of getting the rebound. And while blocks aren't everything has one of the lowest numbers amongst centers per 48 minutes which is alarming for someone as mobile as he is. He also plays with Kyrie Irving in the pick in roll on a team with not a lot of other options. Still a nice pick, just debating.

Posted similar numbers in that post-Lebron pre-Kyrie season, so I don't think Kyrie has much to do with it.

Also teams don't really go after him defensively. Only 29 post attempts in 25 games this season.

not talking about in the post. I'm talking about to contest players near the basket. He's a solid pick and roll defender yes but he doesn't contest shots effectively. I think you are going to need to pick up a couple of solid perimeter defenders that can also spread the floor for Harden, or else that is your weak spot. You'll be a nightmare on the glass though, that's for sure.

I'm not talking about the post either lol. I'm talking about pick and roll offensively and defensively.

And I agree about the contesting shots. Neither Boozer or Varejao do it. But I'm not worried.

I've been anxiously waiting my pick for a while and can't believe he fell this far and how Kevin Martin was drafted before him, but with the 70th pick, the Brooklyn Nets select...

Yea I'm glad contracts don't come into play.

I don't see the hype of Verajao. He's played like 50 games the past 2 seasons... I thought about picking him, but didn't know we'd be going back 3-4 years to predict what he "could" be. lol

We know what he is, his only issue is his injuries.

Yeah, that was my reasoning for selecting Gordon this round, that and it was pretty great value at that spot.

"I don't know if people know — I dislocated my pinkie finger. And [Tyreke] told me, 'You wanna go home or you wanna be here?' I want to be here. And he said, 'All right, then go tape it up and let's play. Let's go. We not stoppin' at no stores. Straight gas. That's what we do, just keep going.'"

He hasn't been what he "is" in years. Can I pick MJ because he plays pickup games against MKG? Kidding of course, but damn.

I just think I misunderstood the premise of this draft. I thought it was build a team this year. It seems career values will come more into play.

He was performing at an allstar level earlier this year.

I don't know if this is a draft for this year or for what people think players are right now to be honest, but either way Varejao was having a career year. Probably a All-Star type year and putting up rebound numbers that are elite.

for 25 games. That's like saying Gordon was back to his Clipper ways with his 21pt average last year.

Either way, I agree he's a good pick, but only if we take career perception and stats into play.

And like I've stated, this wasn't just a 25 game "fluke" type thing. He's been playing like this for a couple years.

    The San Antonio Spurs select...

    TYREKE EVANS

Tyreke Evans is an outstanding ball handler with amazing size, while posting a PER of 18.42 this year. He brings the ability to bullrush his way to the rim, as well as use his crafty handles to navigate through traffic. He has also learned how to play within himself and has identified his role on a team, as he has improved his efficiency and his improved advanced metrics show this.
