Thread: With OKC - Perkins

Trade Idea With OKC - Perkins

I know it has been mentioned in a few threads but I am really liking the idea. Not necessarily to get Perkins but to get either both First round picks or a First (lottery pick) and there Second(which is the first in the second round) and any combination.

    NO gets
    1. Perkins
    2. 1st Round Lottery Pick
    3. 1st or 2nd Round Pick

    OKC gets
    1. Lopez and his option contract that OKC will choose not to sign.
    2. Warrick's TE
    3. Cash considerations or Future Draft Pick

Not sure if we would have to give them Thomas, Roberts, or Miller (all option contracts) or a combination to make up the value difference.

Reason to do it would be we would have 2 picks in the top 10 that could net us a decent to very good SF and PG. Yes we would have a $18M for 2 years but who were we really going to sign to a max contract next year? Just because we have the money does it mean we have to use it? Year 2 of Perkins we can ship his expiring to someone else in cap trouble or just let it expire.

2013/14 and 2014/15 we are going to be around $40K in salary before the trade.

BTW...I like Lopez and would hate to lose him but if we could get a SF and PG for him I would be thrilled.

I'm not seeing a lot of win for OKC in this trade.

    To get under the cap
    1. It saves them 9million
    2. It saves them from signing 2 1st round picks probably 3 mil
    3. They still have perry jones and Jeremy lamb for young players
    4. Ibaka hits their cap big this year along with Westbrook and durant

I think they would do it just to get a big back but I would hope they could do it without Lopez.

Perkins could maybe teach our bigs how to be nasty and rebound. I don't care for Perkins but its a means to an end and maybe we could flip him soon.

I see where you're coming from, but I don't think OKC front office will let that lottery pick go just to get under the cap. The late first rounder sure, but that pick in the lottery gives them so many options on draft day.

So I guess then we should additionally only ask for one of Durant or Westbrook. Too bad, I had my heart set on both. Haha. But seriously, I agree. This makes no sense.

I would do it for the late first and second. If we don't keep Lopez then Perkins isn't that huge of a hit anyway.

How hard is it to understand. If you ask me to absorb a contract that's 18 million dollars (because he's not a great player or starter), what do I want in return. I personally would ask for draft picks unless you like perry jones or Jeremy lamb. In another post I asked how much to buy a pick (I did try to find cash consideration) and was told 3million for I think it was a pick in the 20's and about 500,000 for a second rounder. I don't think it would be outrageous to ask for a 10 and 30 pick for a meager 18 million.

If your OKC let's assume you sign all your picks and keep team as is. It's not improbable that they'll be 10 million over in which they would have to pay over 15 million in a luxury tax and that's this year only. I'm sure they'll still be over next year as well since only Sefelosha is coming off the books which is 3.6 million. I don't find it hard to give up a bench player and a couple of picks in a down draft to get under the cap especially for a small market team.

If OKC want to get rid of Perkins so bad, cant they just amnesty him?
Not sure if he was on their books when they introduced the rule.

I feel like he usually gets brought up as an amnesty candidate, so I think yes

He was traded to OCK from Boston in Feb 2011.
The rule came about at the start of the 2011/12 season so he can be amnestied.

Well nvm then. I guess the real question is, if Perkins get amnestied do we make a bid on him and for how much?

I really don't want Perkins, I'd only do it to get picks.

From Hoopshype, in 2013/14, they are $66M with 10 players signed. In 2014/15, they are $59M with 5 players signed.

They need to dump salary or like tdcreator pointed out they will pay a huge luxury tax plus the extra salaries. Yes they could amnesty him but since it's not our money that always gets brought up. I don't know if OKC will want to pay $18M just to tell the guy go home. but then again, we did it.

Remember, 1st round picks are guaranteed contracts. Picks between 4-10 the salary is between $3.1M to $1.9. IMO, either way, they are selling the late 1st rounder. Maybe the 2nd too. If I wanted a pick I would just buy it from them or someone else without having to take on Perkins salary. That's why they have to use the lottery pick as bait.

This was a rumor reported before the trade deadline "…another source said there was All-Star break talk of Oklahoma City exploring Marcin Gortat and P.J. Tucker for Kendrick Perkins, Jeremy Lamb and a first-round pick."

But in the end, since we are discussing it here. It won't get done anyhow.

Don't forget they will want to also re-sign Kevin Martin which will add extra pressure to give up picks.

As good as they looked as drafting Harden that's how bad they look in trading him
