Trade Idea Suns 1st Round Pick

So last summer I have to believe one of the reasons Dell didn't talk Gordon much with the Suns is that they had no B or better assets. This summer, they will with their high lottery pick. Any potential the Suns would give it up along with salaries for Gordon? Would Dell and Monty object to having so many young players?

Gordon can't be traded to the Suns while under contract with Hornets/Pelicans.

I don't think that's true. We've said it here quite a few times. Maybe you missed it.

Don't forget, furthermore, that Gordon (as covered in Box 6) has veto power over any trade until mid-July and can't be traded to Phoenix specifically until a year passes from the date New Orleans matched the Suns' offer sheet.
There are also two players who, as restricted free agents last July, signed offer sheets with another team that were subsequently matched by their original employer. New Orleans' Eric Gordon and Portland's Nicolas Batum can't be dealt anywhere for one year from the date their offer sheet was matched without granting permission. (That's July 14, 2013, in Gordon's case and July 18, 2013, in Batum's).

Before 7/14, they have to get Gordon's permission to send him anywhere besides Phoenix. After 7/14, he has no more veto power.

If a team matches an offer sheet and retains its free agent, then for one year they cannot trade him without his consent, and during that year cannot trade him at all to the team that signed him to the offer sheet.

    Are you sure about that?

    Thanks for clearing that up.

Still wouldn't trade Gordon for the Suns pick and some scraps.
There is nobody on that team I want.

We can do better than that.

That's why it would be best to wait until he has no more veto power. That way, the FO can get the best deal for the Pelicans, not for Gordon.

I don't think the Suns would do it, but I would.

I don't really want another young player, much less two.

I want to trade Gordon as much as the next guy, but I don't want to trade him for a pick in this years draft. Find a bad team willing to trade Gordon for a lotto pick in next years draft.
If you Jimmer it, they will come.

I would trade Gordon for a top 6 pick, which Phoenix is most likely to end up with. The question is would Phoenix?

The problem with this is he has a player option after his third year. So if were to trade him that team would only have two years(really one if he wants to force his way out of town). Not sure teams will be thrilled to add Gordon if he doesn't want to be with that team.

The longer we wait the less he's under contract. The less he's under contract the less value he has.

Well he apparently fell in love with Phoenix, so that's good for them if they did want to make this trade. I still have a harder time believing that they would do this trade, than us making the trade.

At this point I'm not sure if PHX would trade their unprotected pick. I guess it all depends on how they still feel about Gordon and how they feel about the draft prospects when they are likely to draft. We know they have the utmost confidence in their medical staff so his current injury streak may not turn them off much. We may have to eat Shannon Brown and Michael Beasley contracts to sweeten the deal. I'm ok with that we aren't ready to compete yet anyways and together they both make less than Gordon. Brown expires next year and Beasley the following year.
