but only if the extension isnt that much, Vasquez and Anderson leading our bench will be nice
My problem with this is we can worry about the bench later. We need a core first. Will Gordon want to stick around and if so can we count on him to be healthy? Is Rivers going to develop into a starter? Is Davis going to become a superstar? We don't know. So we should be trying our best to acquire players that are young, driven, and talented until we can say with a high level of probability what our championship caliber core will be moving forward. Then we build the bench.

So every player who we don't feel comfortable with moving forward as of today should be in play for trading purposes.

I'll eiliminate #1 & 2- I understand the "trade Vasquez while he's hot" argument, but you have to factor in his salary- he's only scheduled to make $2.1 next year. You never trade someone who's outplaying his salary by as much as GV, because there's no chance at getting an equal return.

I'm wondering if we extend him then possibly trade him once his new cap numbers kick in, to get more value. I don't think he's the long term solution, but trading him now is basically giving him away, unless we can work a multiple player/team deal.

Vasquez and the point guard Poll

    Purple Haze:

What do you think about Rivers? What if we pass on Burke come draft night? Do you think Rivers is the future at the position or the FO thinks that?

Who here would furious if we took Noel over Burke? I'd probably be kinda upset. We always say BPA, but we don't know (esp. this year) what the BPA will be in the front offices eyes.

No real way to tell what their actual thoughts would be on the matter, but one would have to assume that if they pass on Smart and Burke then they think Rivers will be the future. But they'd probably argue otherwise and say they simply had Noel/Oladipo/whoever rated higher.

I've said before that I have Noel higher than Burke, I'd be totally fine with us taking Noel over Burke. But unless we're top 3 that's just not happening imo.

I think that Rivers is the wildcard here....I am sure that Burke is someones point guard of the future, but is he ours? To me, so much depends on how our organization views the future of Austin, although I personally feel that Burke brings some things to the table that makes him the more attractive choice at the point....

Vasquez and the point guard Poll

I could see this team making a crucial mistake being blinded by the stuff GV does well, this making them overlook all of his problems.

I chose number three though because I think Greivis is a real glue guy. Like a Nick Collison. Someone who sticks around and provides constant leadership as well as great play when asked. Collison stays humble and realizes his role and that they're are guys better than him in front of him. That's where one has to ask if Greivis is willing to do that once he's felt like what it is to be a starter. Winning MIP in a career year and being denoted to backup may not sit too well with him. Hell, it wouldn't sit well with me either.

    Absolutely.

Are you going to begin planning a life with someone before you are married or even dating? Yeah you can have an idea of what you want and that guides where and how you look for a spouse and what you pursue. But you don't make any firm commitments just because she looks hot..

I chose 1 because I don't think he sees himself as a bench player. So trade while the fire is hot to upgrade a position but ONLY if we can upgrade a position.

And to take this admittedly awkward analogy one step further... Anthony Davis, Ryan Anderson and Eric Gordon are the collective bride in this instance. Does that scream championship? Are you willing to go get a 30 year mortgage with that core?

I love Davis, but he needs a posse first before we get "hitched" to this core. I love Anderson, but is Davis secretly true 4. Will that change? And we all know the questions surrounding Gordon. Yeah.. I can't plan a life...er build a bench until I know what kinda spouse...er I mean core I have.

ETA: and to actually respond to the original post. Vasquez has played himself into an asset that can be flipped for something else that can be a part of our core. I see no long term value in him unless we can get him extremely cheap. His only contritbution, in my opinion, is not his 14 pts or 9 assists or dbl-dbl numbers or his potential MIP. He is the leader of 30 win team. Those numbers are empty to me. What makes me happy is that he is doing this on a cheap contract in a punative tax salary cap environment. He is due for a raise...and I have no proof that he can contribute like this on teams whose expectations should be due for a raise. That bothers me.

I voted 3 but I could have voted Option 2 as well. Whoever chose option 1 must have done it out of spite. Why would you trade him for WHATEVER YOU CAN GET??? This is Vasquez not Xavier Henry. You want actual value not whatever someone throws at you for an MIP candidate. If someone throws trash at you, then you could probably get the same trash in free agency. It just seems pointless to trade just for the heck of it.

I'm sorry, it has to be 1,2,5. Let's face it, after a season like this, GV sees himself as a starting PG. Hell, Monty may even see him as a starting PG. One thing is for certain though, he is not a starting PG (on any sort of reasonably decent team). We need to move forward sooner rather than later and stop feeding someone (who shouldn't be in our long term plans) playing time.

#2. Really hoping the veteran piece they add is a 1 or 3. And testing the waters is smart, GV's value may never be higher.
