Thread: Vasquez and the point guard Poll

Vasquez and the point guard Poll

What should be his future with the team?

    1) Trade him for whatever you can get

    2) Shop him for value but bring in a new starter

    3) keep him but as a backup to a new starter let him play out his contract and see what he gets in RFA

    4) keep him but as a backup to a new starter extend him this summer

    5) Start him until Rivers can take over then trade him at the deadline

    6) Keep him as the starting point guard let him play out his contract and see what he gets in RFA

    7) Keep him as the starting point guard extend him this summer

Also check out the HR 2013 Redraft especially if you did it last year

I'm not sure, I guess I'll vote at end of season. He just played a hell of a game against Cleveland but his defense against Irving was still bad.

Don't extend, look for a deal, keep as a starter until player with consistently better play can take over for him.

Not to hijack this thread but what do people think will happen to the following players?

Lopez - Both 2013/14 & 2014/15 will become fully guaranteed if Lopez is not waived on or before 5th July 2013.

Thomas - 2013/14 guaranteed if not waived on or before 1st of September 2013.

Miller - 2013/14 guaranteed if not waived on or before 27th of July 2013.

Roberts - 2013/14 guaranteed if not waived on or before 20th of July 2013

Roberts & Thomas get waived, Miller gets his contract picked up, and Lopez is depended upon how much cap space Dell needs.

Two. I was looking through box scores the other night and was just thrilled to see him getting 18-21 minutes a game off the bench. That's perfect for him, perfect. But I don't think he would accept that type of roll.

I really don't see any way that Lopez doesn't get picked up if he hasn't been traded yet. His contract is so good it'd be a shame to let him walk and get nothing for him. Even if he was used to just even out trades, that'd be something.

You really think Roberts gets waived? I think he gets extended.
    Miller is a no brainer.
Lopez is questionable and Thomas looks like he is getting less and less minutes.

I still think unless we flip either Lopez or Vasquez on draft night I think we will start the 2013/14 season with something like:

    Vasquez/Rivers/Roberts*
    Gordon/2013 rookie
    FA or 2013 rookie/Aminu/Miller
    Davis/Anderson/Thomas*
    Lopez/Smith/Amundson*

    * Inactive roster players

3 I see no reason to force our own hand. Let's be patient and see how this plays out. We know he's not a starter. Draft or sign someone and place him in the backup role. This way his value drops when he becomes a RFA and that contract becomes more manageable.

"I don't know if people know — I dislocated my pinkie finger. And [Tyreke] told me, 'You wanna go home or you wanna be here?' I want to be here. And he said, 'All right, then go tape it up and let's play. Let's go. We not stoppin' at no stores. Straight gas. That's what we do, just keep going.'"

Vasquez and the point guard Poll

I say 2. Value won't ever be higher than now.

Emeka Okafor - Joe Smith - Carmelo Anthony - Manu Ginobili - Jason Williams

Al Jefferson - James Posey - Aaron McKie - Shaun Livingston

Yes, I didn't factor in trading him. I was just speaking in terms of what to do with his contract if it was still on the books.

If you want to trade him, do it sooner. Overachievers aren't like fine wine.

Agreed the "wait and see" method rarely pans out. When trading it's better to be proactive. There are a bunch of bad to terrible FO people in the league. Who may only focus on box scores and see some long term potential in GV. It's strike while the iron is hot time.

  18. #18
Strike while the iron is hot, sure. But he has been progressing every year in the league. Let him grow for a bit longer until Rivers or a rookie are ready, then trade him. If your looking to build a title contender he at least gives you a great option off the bench. And for that hold on to him and trade him when the market is right. There is still a bit more for him to grow into before we move him (better shooting, better passing).

Vasquez and the point guard Poll

He's not any better from last season. He's just getting more minutes. Trade him while his value his high, especially if someone like Burke is drafted.

  20. #20
Actually his per last year was 14.27. This year his per is up to 16.57. He is getting better, and I am sure he was expecting to share the load entering the season. That said, this summer you can probably count on him working on his game and improving on some aspect (he has done it every year so far).

Who knows, maybe next year he has his Steve Nash year 3 breakout season.

Before I voted a box saying that my vote would be viewed showed up, making me believe everyone could see what number I picked. I guess I misread the message, and it only shows the "number" of votes rather than "who" voted.

I guess I am more surprised how x amount of people (I say x because I am sure the number will rise) who will trade him for whatever. While I am sure some people are logical in having at least a set price before they trade GV, the majority are blinded by the fact that he isn't CP3 so they will take whatever snake oil sent their way to get rid of him. I pitty our next starting pg as I am sure he will receive the same amount of flack.

    I vote 4

but only if the extension isnt that much, Vasquez and Anderson leading our bench will be nice
