Is he a big enough upgrade to improve our team on that side of the ball? Keep in mind that our offense is already above average, and that's with a still-developing Davis, a 75% healthy Gordon, and Aminu (enough said). Our defense is putrid and needs help.
I see no issues with his on the ball defense. Monty has this religious zeal to play help defense so a bigger guard posting him up is no big issue. I've also noticed how he seems to know when to switch and when not to. When to play the passing lanes. He seems to have "it", high intelligence, to make up for any size/quickness issues. He's also already stockier up top than Brandon Jennings, so that helps on the defensive side as well..

People have to understand that Burke has not only carried this U of M team last night he's done it all year. That affects his defense because he's asked to so much on offense all year. Last year he tapered off in production many felt becomes he logged so many mins. He immediately went to work in the off-season building strength and endurance to handle his share yet again this year and even carried more of the load with his crazy high usage rate.

Ideally in the pros he'll have more offensives help and can focus more on defense. When you watch Burke he has the length and lateral quickness to defend on ball at an above average rate(if not better). Not even mentioning he has really quick hands, long arms, and great instincts so he'll likely have a decent steal %.

Agreed. You could tell how exhausted he was out there last night toward the end of the game. Did he even come off the court?

I didn't realize just how similar to Chris Paul size wise he is. He's about an inch shorter but has about an inch more wingspan than him.

If the Pelicans pick where I think they will, I hope Burke has a nice, lazy, do nothing summer. No need to work out like a moron like that fella in Portland did.

He's actually a lot better built as far as muscle is concerned than Chris when he came in the league.

"I don't know if people know — I dislocated my pinkie finger. And [Tyreke] told me, 'You wanna go home or you wanna be here?' I want to be here. And he said, 'All right, then go tape it up and let's play. Let's go. We not stoppin' at no stores. Straight gas. That's what we do, just keep going.'"

Actually he's better built in that regards right now. Paul has mass but is far from cut.

Cut is just for the look and has a lot to do with genetics. But yes I do agree.

Because people want to trade Lopez (and his great contract) as part of a deal to net us a better player (maybe matching Lopez and Gordon, or Lopez and GV). So if your planning on trading Lopez, you need to find his backup plan.
If you Jimmer it, they will come.

GV and Lopez is the to most unathletic guys on our squad, but you probably could get something nice in a deal from the two.
2013-1014 is the season the Pelicans fanbase grows!!!!

If we were to trade Vasquez and Lopez we would have much bigger needs than to find Lopez' replacement, the bench overall needs more talent, we need the BPA. I wouldn't use a mid first for Withey. I'd rather take Hardaway Jr/ Jamaal Franklin/ Gary Harris.

If neither Vasquez or Lopez is a part of the long term plan that makes both expendable the min they can net us better talent or a quality draft pick. That goes for every person on this roster. We aren't close talent wise to being a championship caliber team.

Where is that? At 5-8 he will be there.

If he is 5 - 8 right now, and works out and impresses like Lillard did to raise that stock even more, you never know what top 4 GM might do. There are always surprises. We have no idea of draft order right now either.

    Bobcats- kemba
    Cavs- Irving
    Magic- Nelson
    Wiz- Wall
    Suns- dragic
    Twolves-Rubio
    Pistons- knight

I could only see the magic and pistons drafting Burke ahead of us

  17. #1817
Plus there is always a chance of a trade. Just because the teams at the top may not need a certain position doesn't mean they won't draft someone then trade him because that player may be more valuable in a trade than just drafting for need.

Smart will be picked ahead of Burke, so we have that going for us too.

Yeah, i don't think they take Burke because of the Nelson contract. Smart though can play the 2 if needed. Or they could draft Noel and trade him to the Lakers in 6 years. Either/Or

Glad it was already said. If Burke worked as hard on defense as he does on offense he'd drop dead from exhaustion. He's responsible for the team existing in the tournament right now. Can't afford to go balls to the walls on defense.

Me like Burke. Me like Porter. Me like Oladipo. Me okay with Shabazz. Me okay with Anthony Bennett. One of them is bound to be there on our board whenever we pick.

I haven't watch Bennett what would he bring to the team?

someone to operate on the block. We don't have a legitimate low post scorer.

MCW playing today against Marquette in Elite 8. Know a lot of people don't like MCW but I like watching him.
