Thread: Ok, I have to ask. What if we stop Miami Streak???

Question Ok, I have to ask. What if we stop Miami Streak???

The Hornets are (3-0) in their last three games against Boston, Memphis, and Denver. No matter how that is examined , its still very impressive.

I know the KNAT is very important for the future, but to break two major streaks and stop a Historic team........ I think may be a launching point for a winning franchise, respect around the league, and a major shift in culture for New Orleans Basketball.

This game is very major, I thought the possible outcome of a win, which can set up HUUUUUUUGE things for the Pelicans franchise. Our confidence and swagger will be through the roof next season.

Ok, I have to ask. What if we stop Miami Streak???

I'm enjoying the Heat's streak but I would be proud as hell if my favorite team would be the one to end it. I don't hate the Heat at all. They play great team basketball and Lebron is easily the best player in the world, but it would be a great honor if the Hornets could be the one to end the streak.

Al Jefferson - James Posey - Aaron McKie - Shaun Livingston

Not to minimize "swag" but we need talent if we want to be a playoff then eventual title contending team. So while I'm not rooting for us to lose ending the streak does nothing IMO for this teams future.

This is the backcourt I want. And considering neither are considered top 5 players as of now I don't think securing both is unreasonable.

You don't think by Beating Boston, Denver, and Miami in one week does anything? I think fans start to see some rewards of this young team, the players start to feel like they are trending upward, the coaching staff has these games to point to as breakthroughs.

It may not have any physical effect or quantitative effect on the team's future, but I'm not willing to negate the psychological effect it has on our young team and it's perception around the league.

Just the fact that, we won't be considered part of the "tank" group of NBA teams makes me happy enough. lol

The ref's won't let it happen... "for basketball reasons".
But screw the tank i'd love to see it happen. I'll be in dat number friday.

Espn announcers did mention the Hornets while the Heat played the magic last night. Said the heat won't be able to just cruise by for a win. Jeff van gundy gave Monty much credit when it comes to making his guys play hard.

Does it do anything in the grand scheme of things? No.

Does it put a cap on the season and give us some momentum for next season hell yeah. This game is our super bowl. This game is a real teaching opportunity about what playoff basketball is about and will help Davis and whoever else can suit of for it get a taste of it. This will be what it's like playing a championship team in full stride.

"I don't know if people know — I dislocated my pinkie finger. And [Tyreke] told me, 'You wanna go home or you wanna be here?' I want to be here. And he said, 'All right, then go tape it up and let's play. Let's go. We not stoppin' at no stores. Straight gas. That's what we do, just keep going.'"

Eh...I think the "momentum for the next season" explanation is overrated and frankly something that team personnel say to give fans hope. It will def boost confidence now but we have no idea who is coming back and in what roles. We always want the Hornets/Pelicans to win but I think it's more important at this stage to worry about "Winning" the offseason battle in terms of roster improvement than "winning" this game against the Heat. Again, not saying we should lose this game, but I'm downplaying the whole "momentum for next season" talk.

Well I meant one or the other but if we take Victor at 5 or 6 and Burke starts dropping we'd BETTER package Vasquez and SOMETHING to get back in.

But doubtful. I think they'd rather stick with Rivers and start focusing on getting max value for Gordon in the summer.

I don't think Gordon is going anywhere... at least not until mid-season.

You're allowed to have an opinion, but we don't have to agree on it lol. Getting Davis and the guys that return for next season the confidence to know you can possible beat one of the best teams ever during their greatest streak isn't just momentum for next season, it's a learning and a teaching point for their careers. This is the closest thing to playoff basketball we will have this season.

It also can help give perception that we're the hottest up and coming team out there, which is big in terms of "winning the offseason". If I'm a FA and the team that stopped Denver a Miami's streak is offering me the same as Sacramento... I know what in picking. As I said in the beginning of my first post, I don't think beating them has some long term ground Breaking effect; just some subtle momentum.

if Davis has something like 18 & 8 or a double double and a W, this team will finally get much needed respect from national media... hopefully. I'm sure they'd turn it to a Heat running out of steam finally story instead though

OK question how many on this roster that will play Friday do you think will be on this team 2 or 3 years from now when we will look to start making noise best case?

What Davis and Anderson maybe Aminu? Just fail to see how that helps us long term.

Yeah I figured you meant one or the other, but I suggest we draft both. We should have some assets to trade up around the 10 spot. Of course I been pro trading Gordon for sometime now.

Admittedly, I've never been a part of an NBA 27 game winning streak personally, but I would imagine after winning 28 (by that time) games in a row it would be hard to "get up" for a bottom-feeding Hornets team. We've already seen it in some of there other games lately against lesser competition and we see teams overlook lesser teams all the time. I would think being on a 28 game winning streak would amplify that

I don't either, but if we draft a Mclemore or Oladipo the questions will certainly be flying hard and heavy.

Davis, Rivers, Anderson, Smith for sure, and I say maybe to Lopez and Aminu.

I just don't see how you view beating the best team in the league, on their hottest streak, in a playoff scenario (for the hornets), with the best player in the world as negligible. I'm not saying it is vital, but only positives can come of it.

Rivers and Anderson won't be playing Friday so that's the two I named.

My thing is most of this roster won't be here to really benefit from this win not that a marque win can't help. If we had most of our pieces we plan to build with in place and playing Friday I would feel a lot better about a potential win.

Is B.Roberts really 6'1 or is that a generous listing?

This is exactly what I was saying. Any win is obviously a good thing, but I, personally, can only name like 5 or 6 that should be back next year from this roster. If 2/3 of the roster is from other teams, then this win or most wins for that matter wont mean much.

This would be huge! So stop that "meh" talk....
