This Florida gulf coast team just became my fav team in the tournament!!! True Cinderella if they can get by sdsu!!
I'm ok with Victor on this team. Can never have too many potential lockdown defender, especially ones that can knock down shots and has the potential to be a pretty good one-on-one offensive option and at the very least be a great slasher.
I agree right now the way this team is built a more offensively skilled guy like Muhummad or McElmore fit this teams needs, but honestly I'm not thrilled with the way this team is built and would like to see major overhauls.
I really like this little section taken from the latest "Missing Piece" article:
Is Offense Really Priority #1?
Whether it is on Twitter or Message Boards or in Comments on this site, I just keep reading that we NEED a scorer on this team. That people don’t care that a guy like Shabazz doesn’t provide anything else, scoring is our #1 need, so we are willing to overlook that. I just have one question for those people – *Have you actually been watching our games?
The Hornets are 16th in offensive rating, without Gordon for half the year and with guys in Davis and Rivers who will only get better offensively next year. Even Gordon figures to be 10-20% better on that end, seeing that he will be a year removed from his injury and he should be fully healthy. They are a middle of the pack offense that projects to be a top 10 offense next season even if they don’t make any significant additions. Meanwhile, they are 28th in defensive rating. 28th!! They allow a Effective Field Goal Percentage of 51.7%, they foul too much, and they never turn the opposing team over as evidenced by the fact that they are 29th in steals.
Is offense really the problem? Is that the side of the ball that needs drastic improvement?
Bazz provides a offensive threat that spaces the floor and provides potential defensively. Whether a wing player can rebound effectively or not is the least of my concerns. I think what people are really saying is, whoever we pick will be at the very least a solid defender. Depending on what position we pick, it will probably even be a upgrade defensively. So with that said, why wouldn't you want the scorer? This team is going to get it's upgrade defensively this offseason, no...matter...what
Is Bazz really that good of a defender though? Also, does he create turnovers from steals?
True..and honestly I have all the faith in the world who ever we draft will be the right choice for this team. Have to have faith in the team brass. So darn glad benson bought this team man. If I recall correctly many ppl here were bashing benson being the owner. Not sure why tho. He made the most sense from the beginning. I can guarantee u that man wants to win a championship with the hornets before he passes. Bless his soul I hope we do.
Second fiddle to the saints, and potentially cutting from the top with too many Saints personnel trying to run a Basketball team. Also, some people like to whine about Benson because he almost moves the Saints to San Antonio.
Some people will whine just to whine about something.
Marshall Henderson
Florida Gulf Coast might be the most complete team outside of Michigan/Indiana/Kansas/Michigan State... They have a good PG who can distribute and score, they have a go to scorer in Brown.. they have super athletic big men...they have long shot blocking center.. they have shooters off the bench and they are all around very fast and athletic and they actually run a pro style offense! Pro style offenses like theirs are sorely needed in college basketball.
FGCU. They need to dunk over everyone all the way to the Elite Four.
I agree if he's BPA you take him, but if you have another guy you covet about the same and it's a position of need, then you take them. The reason being (i'm not trying to stir up Gordon conversations again) is drafting Oladipo is essentially packing Gordon's bags for him (which i'm not completely against either).
For one, you want your guy to get development minutes (probably more year 2 than his rookie year), and second we all know how Gordon felt about the Rivers pick. I don't think his mindset is very strong in terms of being with us. I'm fine with us taking that path, but I think it sets us back 1 more year in terms of a rebuild (assuming Gordon could potentially play most of the season) and then we have to wait on Oladipo's development. Overall, I think Gordon if healthy is a better 2 for our team because he's really the only guy outside of Vasquez that creates his own shot. Oladipo will struggle with that at first in the NBA.
"I don't know if people know — I dislocated my pinkie finger. And [Tyreke] told me, 'You wanna go home or you wanna be here?' I want to be here. And he said, 'All right, then go tape it up and let's play. Let's go. We not stoppin' at no stores. Straight gas. That's what we do, just keep going.'"

No like, I had this going through my head during that entire FGCU game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWKQiZVBtu4
I don't think anyone's forced him to play defense before. I don't recall him just blowing coverages, but as we were talking about on the thread the other night, he's always snowbirding to get down the court first, so if he's polaying the 3, you know he's not picking up a rebound. The real potential harm with Bazz is if we don't upgrade our Center spot in terms of rebounding and start Bazz immediately. Lopez is terrible on the defensive boards, Davis is decent, and Bazz won't even attempt to get it (unless Monty just says, you'rte not playing if you don't box out and play the boards).
