Thread: Who should become the first person to be drafted to the pelicans?

Are people placing Shabazz over Mclemore because he is more of a SF?
I really don't think Shabazz can play SF effectively in this league.. therefore ill rather trade Gordon and pick up Mclemore..
The guys A beast, hit 5+ threes twice in his last 3 games and has got crazy athleticism. Although he is 21 years of age.

The NBA is starting to go smaller than normal, allowing athleticism to sometimes make up for tangibles like physical attributes. Shabazz is offense waiting to happen. Defense will come later with hopefully a good head on his shoulders an willingness to learn.

I think Shabazz in more than capable of playing the 3... more so than McLemore. If McLemore could honestly grow a few more inches (doubtful) I'd have no problem taking either of these dudes to be the offense at the 3 that we need. But if we're committed to Gordon (which we obviously are) then I don't think we need McLemore.

What scares me about shabazz is that he's a horrible defensive rebounder. You put him on the court with jennings gordon and lopez (or anderson instead of lopez, changes nothing) and teams will be feasting like vultures on our defensive glass. I'd rather porter myself anyway

Who should become the first person to be drafted to the pelicans?

Bazz or porter. Smart or Burke. Really good problem to have.

We are ranked 13th in the league in offensive efficiency. We are 28th in the league in defensive efficiency. We need a player who can contribute on both ends. That's why I like Oladipo and Porter so much.

I think most of them are assuming that Mclemore will be gone by the time we pick, and that's likely.
    Wherehappens.

this is very likely....we would probably have to land either 1 or 2

Horrible? I haven't seen that. He doesn't always pursue it but that often comes because he's out on the perimeter. But horrible?

Well if you want to draft to help defense then we need to draft Smart, because our PG defense isn't up to par, where Aminu can play decent defense. Plus, 13th is middle of the road and bazz is the only natural scorer.

Well I was looking for some advanced NCAA stats to prove or disprove that Bazz DRB angle, and found this:

Basically a devised metric to show what players mean the most to their teams. Guess who is #1?

Umm according to this, exactly half of his rebounds per game have been defensive. Not that 2.5 is enough, but it's half of his rebounds.

Same thing with porter because he is rising up draft boards. If Mclemore or Porter is there when we pick we better take one of them lol To me Shabazz is the most likely pick for us and the spot we'll be at.

Yeah I'm really thinking that'll be the case. And I'm totally fine with that. He's beasting in a broken system already.

Are you trying to say he can come "beast" in our broken system? If so, I like the sound of that.

I like our small ball we've been playing cause of injuries. I think McLemore could easily guard the 3 even at 6'5. Hell they are talking of moving Vasquez to SF. I doubt I'd move off my board of McLemore, smart, porter, then Bazz.

  17. #742
If we play Mason at the 3 for stretches, I'm pretty sure Bazz can do te same.

Not at all if your team gets a top 7 or so pick. After that there's a drop-off and I think that is what is giving this class a weak grade. I personally like a few players in our range so I'm very happy and don't see why the national media thinks this class is irrelevant.

  20. #745
Agreed, this draft has value in the top 10, outside of that it blows.

Because the media loves those S Word players. The guys that are super sniper elite. They don't like guys who are B and C players. Though there are some high potential types like a Paul George.

Ya, we got our super elite sniper player in davis, we just need good complimentary pieces now, i think porter or bazz would be good fits

Shabazz may be different after an off-season where he doesn't have distractions. He has the skills. It's whether or not he has the natural athleticism to really be a showcase piece in the NBA. Because just watching him, it's like watching a guard-sized version of Big Baby; he uses his body well but he ain't gonna wow you.

    Good comparison.

I just want a damn wing who can shoot from the arc. Both Bazz and Porter can do that.

i really like the bazz paul pierce comparison.
