Get Archie Goodwin trade Gordon. This guy can ball.

    sweet baby jeebus

One of the top ranked shooting guard prospects in the 2012 high school class, Archie Goodwin did little to diminish his standing with his performances at the McDonald's All-American and Nike Hoop Summit practices and games over the past two weeks.

Measuring 6-5 in shoes, with an outstanding 6-10 wingspan, a frame that should carry as much weight as needed, and very good athleticism, Goodwin is blessed with excellent physical attributes.

Goodwin is an aggressive, instinctive scorer, outstanding in transition and extremely assertive in the half-court. He has a strong first step and a nose for getting inside the paint, being capable of creating his own shot on a regular basis, mostly to take the ball strong to the basket. Once inside the paint, he can finish in highlight reel fashion, showing good body control, nice creativity and the raw explosiveness to power his way through traffic.

Like many young athletic slashers, Goodwin still has room to improve on the nuances of scoring in the half-court, be it learning how to read defenses, changing speeds and keeping his opponent off balance, or knowing when to stop and pull-up in the mid-range for an off the dribble jumper. He is just an average passer at this stage and is not immune to forcing the issue at times, but does not appear to be a selfish player and looks to have the instincts and smarts needed to develop a more complete offensive arsenal as he gains experience through good coaching.

The area where Goodwin must improve the most as he makes the transition to playing against stronger competition is as a jump-shooter. He's capable of making spot-up jumpers (inconsistently) from behind the 3-point line, but doesn't show great mechanics and is very streaky shooting off the dribble. This will likely be a big factor in determining how good of a pro prospect he can become, as it's a major key to him developing into a more complete scorer.

Very possible to get goodwin if we acquire another pick. Isn't he projected outside the lottery?

Yeah, he's projected 20th right now.

another guy I REALLY WANT above all is

Strengths: Not to be confused with NFL's RG3, "GR3" is an above the rim athlete with star potential ... Smooth. Makes everything look easy. Wing player who attacks the basket and makes highlight finishes ... Quick, explosive leaping ability. Gets to the rim in a hurry ... Has a good feel for the game and solid perimeter skills ...Versatile wing with the ISO ability to create shots off the dribble as well as the vision to find teammates ... Runs the floor well and has the fluidity and body control to make acrobatic plays at the rim in transition ... Surprising all around skills for a freshman ... NBA ready body. Focused. Shows strong maturity, both mentally and physically, for a first year college player ... Good decision maker ... Very efficient scorer. 59% from the floor ... Competitive ... Unselfish. Team player. Excellent form on his shot, and shows range to knock down the college three ball consistently. Father was known for being a deadly pull up shooter, and GR3 shows potential to develop the same skill ... Understands spacing. Adept scorer with the ability to find cracks in the defense and moves well to get open ... Solid defender. Gets low, good fundamentals and effort ... Slashes to the basket well for rebounds. Understands positioning and boxing out ... Physical strength and explosiveness allow him to out-rebound bigger opponents. Good anticipation. Very good second leaper allows him to grab a board and make a follow up dunk ... Good length. Wingspan likely in the 6'10 range ...

Goodwin and Robinson, two guys that would benefit from an extra year.

"I don't know if people know — I dislocated my pinkie finger. And [Tyreke] told me, 'You wanna go home or you wanna be here?' I want to be here. And he said, 'All right, then go tape it up and let's play. Let's go. We not stoppin' at no stores. Straight gas. That's what we do, just keep going.'"

Good point. Draft them now. Let them learn in the NBA and in 2 years time have quite the Starting lineup and bench.

Is it safe to call Kentucky a minor league basketball team?
If you Jimmer it, they will come.

Only recently. There are the same if not more NBA players from other big programs.

I am sure there are but the AD draft, this recent signing class, the Noel class. These are all kids going 1 and done. UK might not be full of all stars but at worst it has Mid level talent and NBA DL talent. That's pretty impressive. Even my Wolverines (while having a strong ranking) don't have that much NBA talent on it.

    Speaking of Goodwin:

During Saturday’s ugly 88–58 blowout loss at Tennessee, reporters covering the game overheard coach John Calipari yelling this at freshman guard Archie Goodwin as he headed to the bench, "I can’t coach you!”

During a timeout late in the game, Coach Cal didn’t even speak to his players in the huddle. His rationale? “I’m not wasting my breath here,” he said afterwards. “(They’re) not listening.” “We have a couple of guys who aren’t real coachable,” he also said. “You tell them what to do and they do their own thing.”

Cal attracts the one and dones. This is nothing new. Glad it's blowing up in his face this year.

As am I. Cal is a car salesman, while coach K is more of a craftsman.

But Calipari's players actually translate to the NBA.

idk I think Robinson would fill the void at SF, and maybe even SG is we rid Gordon. The guy reminds me of Paul George.

Coach K's do as well... When they don't ruin themselves off the court.

I've watched a few Kentucky and a few Michigan games. And I just don't see how Goodwin or Robinson will help out an NBA team. They have trouble not hurting their own college teams.

Robinson has an annoying tendency to leave Trey Burke hanging out to dry by pulling a great disappearing act.

I've said it before and I will say it again....from what I have seen, Burke's game appears well Paulished....

Between him and McLemore. I'm not sure who I want on this team more.

Who should become the first person to be drafted to the pelicans?

I've watched Burke a few times now. I wouldn't call him Chris Paulish. He has a good control of the game though.

I highly doubt we'll even have make that call. McLemore will be long gone by the time its our turn to pick.

But you probably knew that already.

In any sense, it'll probably come down to whether we want a point in the mold of Burke or Smart OR whether we want to fulfill a more pressing position of need at the 3 with players like Porter and Oladipo.

With Rivers on our roster, I think we'll go 3.

5 is a possibility as well; it would depend on which big men slip to us. I could see us taking a player such as Zeller in the right context.

"I'm not going to allow my putative owner to answer that question, this is an NBA related press conference. Paul Tagliabue and Roger Goodell have collectively sung their praises of Tom and if uh ESPN has a problem with that tell Mr. Skipper to call me at my office."

It sucks that Rivers will probably never reach an All-star level because if he is holding us back from Picking burke, I'm upset.

At least Rivers is already lead candidate for Most-improved. lol

I'm just hoping that Smart goes early enough that we don't have to make the choice between him and Burke.

I don't think the two really have much to do with each other. At least I hope. I really think that Burke will be there when we pick, and if we pick a SF or even C I won't hate on it but I'll require some serious consoling for a few days.

I just think that Burke fixes a lot of issues on this team and there are plenty of small time SFs available to pair with Aminu for next year.

I would have ZERO qualms with taking Zeller, what a front court for years...

Well, any hope of drafting Victor Olidapo are but gone. He is now a lock for the top 5. Unless we lose out we are going to miss out on him.
