"I don't know if people know — I dislocated my pinkie finger. And [Tyreke] told me, 'You wanna go home or you wanna be here?' I want to be here. And he said, 'All right, then go tape it up and let's play. Let's go. We not stoppin' at no stores. Straight gas. That's what we do, just keep going.'"

Spurs? Why would this be hard, because they're not in the media or exciting? What else is new![]()
Wherehappens.
I feel like the spurs have had the best or close to the best record for like the last 4 years
Spurs were also the first team to 50 wins this season.
I think this is like the fourth time this has happened during Poppovich's reign.
"I'm not going to allow my putative owner to answer that question, this is an NBA related press conference. Paul Tagliabue and Roger Goodell have collectively sung their praises of Tom and if uh ESPN has a problem with that tell Mr. Skipper to call me at my office."
amazing how the best team in the league (record-wise) is getting absolutely 0 pub whatsoever... just b/c they have no flash... no real flare and no loud mouths... they are quietly winning w/ the basics and good fundamentals (being in a "small market" contributes to that as well... esp. when you share a state w/ Mark Cuban)
could be considered the best decade-plus run for any team in any sport ever... yet they get no publicity except for "oh... look who's at the top again... the Spurs"
oh... and how 1 injury changed a team for over a decade... David Robinson gets hurt... Spurs tank... they draft Tim Duncan and the rest is history

"The pelican is fearsome. Take a raven, for example: it's omnivorous. It eats bugs, and seeds, and fruit, and carrion. Compared to the well-rounded citizen that is the raven, the pelican is the serial killer of birds." - Barry Petchesky, Deadspin
Good thing is, right about the time that the Pelicans are maturing and making a push, the Spurs will be on the way out. At least Parker/Duncan/MG anyway...
I think it's crazy how they have the number one record in the league yet ESPN won't even show their highlights on Sportscenter. You would think the Lakers, Heat, or Clippers have the number one seed, but not a single one has the top 2 record.
I have no doubt they like going under the radar with this, but the teams with the two best records get little talk, and wouldn't you know it, both are small market teams.
Once again the ESPN only follows the big market teams. No wonder the common fan is following these teams and not the best teams in the league.
I get the spurs one constellation but what about OKC? I think they get a lot of air time.
Spurs are old and will sputter out in playoffs. Even if they finish 10 games ahead of 2nd place team they will still not b playoff favorites.
ESPN's job is to make money.
By paying so much attention to what they say, then proving it by talking about it, good or bad, just makes them money.
If you don't like how they do business, don't participate. That's the only way to change things, but it only works of many people do it. Since they are making money off the masses and not just you, and most people won't do the work to get news that is good, it will likely have no effect.
Your issue, however, is with the laziness of fans that is reflected by the fact that "best" does not equate to "most covered by ESPN.
Recent example: Arena renovations. The TP got that story out a couple of days ago. The stuff was reported basically as-is in July. Late. And it gets discussed, linked, etc. So, no penalty for being. So, no incentive for a change.

"Aime la vérité, mais pardonne ?** l'erreur." - François-Marie Arouet (Voltaire)
To build on this, It only works if a lot of people dont participate, and guess where those people are ? Major markets. So lakers clippers Knicks nets bulls fans and the country of bandwagon heat fans will be accommodated. Sorry but were one of the smallest markets out there. This is why they have espn la, New York, and Dallas. I don't really get the small market chip on our shoulders. Hell the clippers were in LA and only just became relevant after drafting BG and the cp3 trade.
I might be wrong, but it's also kind of a joke that San Antonio is a so-called "small market" team. San Antone is the 7th largest city in the U.S.. Now that's because Bexar County is so huge, but still-1.7 million people invested in a team is not small. Its a one horse town and I could care less what ESPN thinks and would take San Antone over Atlanta and Miami any day of the week.
Sure, there is a bit of sting from the post-Katrina efforts by there Mayor to steal our Saints, but those were such chaotic times. SAT has great culture, history, food and business climate; nothing phony about it one bit - unlike ATL, which is the capital of phony.
And I wouldn't right them off just yet - they still win games without Duncan and Ginobilli playing and I love Pop simply because he doesn't care what the league or ESPN thinks or says about him or his team. I see a lot of him Monty and that's a good thing.
