The reason I love Pekovic for the Pelicans is they'd be a nightmare matchup for any team in the league in the frontcourt. There isn't a team in the league who could match up the league's biggest low post bully, a freak athlete/rim protector, and an elite stretch 4. You couldn't design three more complementary players. He'd give us an identity as an elite rebounding team, especially on the offensive end, would diversify our half court sets by giving us a high quality post option who can get deep position on anyone in the league, and would help free up other guys by setting some of the most vicious screens in basketball. He instantly makes us a tougher team, which is enormous in the playoffs. If you're going to run slow-paced half-court basketball, you need this kind of guy on your team.
Anytime you can add a player like Pekovic, you'd want to all things being equal. But the issue is, right now our best guy is arguably Anderson, and our best asset going forward is Davis. As it is, neither get enough minutes, and they won't unless Davis ends up kicking over to center and they can play together. Right now we need guards and wings, another center won't move the needle much for us, as good as Pek is; we'd basically be Utah with a little more upside (ie, Gordon stays healthy).
If you add Pek, you need to make a few trades. I'd hate to trade Anderson b/c he's underrated IMO to begin with, hence why we got him for a bargain in the first place.
