I’ll play by your rules for just a second. Pels signed Missi to a 4 year 15.5mil deal. So by your logic, Pels are 3x more committed to Missi than Karlo haha so that’s going to directly correlate to playing time right?
The Pels are more committed to Missi, that is correct. I think he will play a bigger role for the Pelicans in the future, I dont see him contributing much this year. He first started playing basketball in 2020... that's crazy. He should probably be in the d league for a year tbh. Kind of like how they let Matkovic develop and mature before expecting him to play in the NBA.

IMO Reeves making the team. Needs to be better on d obviously (even though he just had a nice steak and dunk). But he reminds me of Naji when he first came in how he plays down hill. Plus on him is he already has his shot developed. Going to all be up to how he develops on the other end of the floor.

Reeves has looked fantastic handling the ball, slashing and has done a solid job on the defensive end. I can see why he is likely getting that spot and hope to see it translate to the NBA.

By develop and mature I want to make sure you’re referring to the whole 10 games he played in g league last year?

Missi having a much better showing today on both ends of the floor. IMO focus needs to be on defense. Offensively He’s going to take a while to fully develop.

That and all the games he's played in Europe since we drafted him.

I'm as surprised as anyone that he got a real contract, and I'm still not sure if he's ready for NBA ball, but he has actually been playing the last two years. It's not like he's been sat around doing nothing, he's played a few thousand minutes in Europe since we got his rights, and been pretty solid there too.
    Basketball.

Only paying partial attention to this game because it's Summer League, you know how it is, but my takeaways thus far are:

    1) Missi looks good. Handle, as expected, has been functional if unambitious but promising for someone with such little experience. Athleticism is popping, hustle is there. Screening well, as anticipated.
    2) Reeves looks good, is moving well, taking good shots, playing with some poise which is nice to see from an older player. It's what you hope for when drafting age.
    3) Hawkins continues to look not that good. Game 1 was rough for him, game 2 is continuing to be rough. 1/7 shooting inside the arc is nasty work and he's proving (as we all probably expected tbh) that he's not built to be on ball right now.

Ehhh outside of getting in shape I wouldn’t put too much stock into his time in Europe as NBA ready. G league, OK but again that was 10 games so if we’re saying that makes him NBA ready then the bar is low. I’m not rooting against the guy LOL I hope he’s the next Jokic, but I think expectations need to be tempered if anyone feels he’s going to be a part of the regular rotation. If he plays in same # of games and has the same amount of minutes zeller had for us last year we should all be pleasantly surprised.

Hawk is a pure 2, he should never be running the offense or dominating the ball. I’m not too worried about the %s for him I’m mainly focused on his ball handling and defense. Which so far looks so-so.

I agree with you on Missi/Reeves.

One of the announcers said something about Missi being our starting center this year after he had a nice dunk. Like calm down buddy lol

Hawk shouldn’t be running 99 percent of games with the ball, but he HAS to keep improving his handle which is the biggest part of this summer league for him. He struggles to protect the ball against pressure and on drives.

Reeves must get better at FTs. He’s too good of a shooter.

I dont think its likely either but it would be fun to see, Missi is easily the most fun to watch center that the Pelicans have. love to see a dynamic big man attack the rim and as the 5th man in a Murray - CJ - BI - Zion lineup he should be able to catch a couple of lobs

I truly believe Missi is going to develop into a good player for us, but year 1 starter? He’s not ready for that. At the very least in 2024.

Euroleague, depending on exactly where, is the second best league in the world, and he was playing in the ABA which is one of the better European areas.

Is it the same as the NBA? Obviously not, but it's no worse than college basketball. I'd rather draft someone with experience playing in Europe over someone player in the worse college conferences.

You don't need to convince me to have realistic expectations, but I just think pretending his time in the Euroleague didn't happen is fairly short sighted and foolish.

Didn’t say anything close to pretending his time there didn’t happen. I said it doesn’t equate to him being NBA ready. He has been in the ABA since 2017, we drafted him in 2022. He’s in SL now with real NBA players and isn’t looking good tonight at all. Of course every player has off nights but I think it would be short sighted and foolish to think he doesn’t still has a ton of developing to do to contribute to a NBA team during the regular season.

He’s really struggling with the ball in his hands.
