Wow Herb Jones with no hesitation hitting a corner 3 in critical game situation. Cold blooded!

The real difference in these last two games has been confidence because the actual numbers have been there for over a month now. Just love to see him getting confidence.

Herb absolutely smothered that dude to close out the game. Stifling, elite defense to close out the game.

Pelicans do their job and win their final road game of the year. Pels now have 42 wins, meaning that they will finish above >.500 for the first time since 2017-18, and for the first time in Brandon Ingram's career.

HUGE games from Herb and Trey lately, both sophomore players.

HERBALICIOUS!!! Herb closed out that game on both ends of the court!

Trey's defense and rebounding has been improving as well, he is making his length felt.

Pels spent basically the last decade asking for functional wings and now we start 3 of them

We used to pray for days like this

Excellent article here on the leaps Trey has taken this year, by Jackson Frank: https://theanalyst.com/na/2023/04/le...licans-season/

    Some quotes:

Among the entire 2021 rookie class, perhaps nobody has made more significant strides in Year 2 than New Orleans Pelicans wing Trey Murphy III.
Now, he’s absolutely lethal maneuvering off the catch, an evolution initiated during his run at NBA Summer League nine months back. Better equipped to contort around help defenders and operate in tight spaces, he’s shooting 67.3% at the rim after shooting 48.6% a season ago.
According to PBPStats, 16.3% of his field goals were self-created last year and he generated an effective field goal percentage of 26.7% on them. Those marks have perked up to 22.9% and 56.9%, respectively. Given he’s just 22 years old, it’s not particularly challenging to envision him furthering this growth and emerging as a bona fide complementary ball handler to intermittently relieve pressure from primary and secondary initiators. At the very least, he won’t solely be a spot-up and off-screen threat. There’s diversity to his methodology.
On his defensive improvement this year:

His block rate has jumped from 0.39 per 48 minutes in 2021-22 to 0.87 this season, while his steal rate has jumped from 1.28 per 48 minutes last season to 1.72 in 2022-23. As a result, he’s made the largest improvement in defensive stops (blocked shots plus steals) per game from 2021-22 to 2022-23 at plus-1.16, ahead of Jaren Jackson Jr. (+0.81), Tre Jones (+0.78), Drew Eubanks (+0.78) and Jevon Carter (+0.60).

He’s much more proactive and anticipatory. When he’s required to tag on the weak side of pick-and-rolls, he does so aggressively and punctually. He’s routinely positioned above the restricted area to disrupt pocket passes and dives to the hoop.
As the Pelicans beam toward the postseason following a rough winter, he’s been especially critical – averaging 19.2 points (70% true shooting), 3.4 rebounds and 1.4 steals over the past 15 games.

In last year’s playoffs, despite playing 120 minutes and launching 22 shots, he didn’t net a single 2-pointer. If he and New Orleans are back in a first-round series this year, I’m pretty confident that won’t happen again.

Nance's game recaps are always fun

BI's court vision is so underrated. Extremely high level passes down the stretch.

Trey has to keep working at it, but he's obviously getting better as a shot creator. Hell of a draft pick.

    Herb deserves all-nba defense. Period.

Glad they upgraded the sound in the arena. Finally.

Field of vision on the court, among a bunch of giants, a lot different.

So much better when he is in this mode. It used to be so frustrating to watch him iso and not give himself options besides a contested midrange jumper. It keeps the help defender off of him BIGTIME when they know he might be passing to the guy that just blew by them. This is really the answer to the "double team BI and get a free win".

Ingram is at his absolute best when he's like, 60/40 score/pass, instead of being fully invested into scoring.

We all know he can put 40 on guys, and when the opportunity comes where his shot just can't miss, or where he has an obvious mismatch, that's what he should do. But on an average night, the ability to use that threat to give everyone else a boost is way more valuable. He's in that zone right now, and has been for the last 15 games or so. Really dialled in.
