    Pelicans December 30th - New Orleans Pelicans vs Philadelphia 76ers - 22-12

The Pelicans, currently on a 4 game winstreak, look to continue their recent success - a success that has launched them to the top of the West once again - against the Sixers. The Sixers, of course, a team which has a record of 20-13, which is not bad at all. That record includes being 6-8 on the road, which is slightly more pleasant for us to consider as we go into this with yet some more injury report updates:

Yep, Nance is back on the report - this time as doubtful. Herb has been set as questionable. Brandon Ingram remains sidelined with his toe, though he was at practice recently which may be a sign of good things to come.

This will be a tough game, but I also think it's a winnable one. It will rely on us maximising our shooting, speeding the Sixers up (26th in pace this year) and denying them any opportunity to get second chances. The Sixers ahve the 2nd ranked defense but only the 15th offense; if they can't get second chance points or fastbreak opportunities, we should be able to clamp down on a relatively impotent scoring threat.

That word 'relatively' is still, of course, contextual - they do still have Joel Embiid, who can put 40 on any team, and while he's not the same guy he was in Houston there's no real denying that James Harden could have a night at any point. We'll welcome the return of Herb if he's here to team with dyson all night to deny Harden any good looks and prevent him from leveraging his entry passing (very high level) to give opportunities to Embiid, who will probably have to be a team effort to defend.

Let's see whether the team lives up to recent hype, and finishes out the home stand on a 5 consecutive win before we go on the road for a b2b.
    Basketball.

Guys, help me out here. Pels are one in the West, 15-4 at home, and relatively healthy. Somehow they are the underdog to the 5th seed in the East. How can this be any less obvious than ref manipulation incoming. There is no possible way on this planet to favor Philly here other than controlling the game through the refs. Pels y’all need to be strong in this one. Embiid and Harden may get 50 FTs.

No manipulation. Slight underdog would be most people's evaluation

Can we wait till the game is played before we start whining about the refs???

The Sixers are well-rested, having last played in D.C. on Tuesday (they lost to the Wizards).

I will now ask the #1 question I ask for every game: who they putting on Zion? PJ Tucker? He's big enough to bang with Zion, but doesn't have the speed to keep up. Should be a fun matchup.

Obviously they have to double Zion, but he has the speed and the handles to exploit most doubles. We will see triple teams become more commonplace. Which is good, because Zion has above average passing vision too

Every possession that Zion is on the floor needs to go through him. Trey should always be on the floor with Zion as well

Agreed 100%. That's what was so frustrating about the beginning of the Twolves game. Zion didn't touch the ball for the first few possessions. Maddening.

Which is a very funny thing to contemplate given that we already see them several times a game, and in some games, particularly in tilted defense moments, we've even seen the vaunted ''all five defenders basically just lining up'' defense. The idea of teams selling out even more to defend Zion is almost comical, yet there it is.

They should have asked Doc about his punk-azz son and whether he should have stepped to JV like that.

Started out as Pels -3.0, then to -1.5 yesterday, and now swung to Philly -1.0. So obviously bookies doing their jobs to get max bets.

Might have something to do with Philly getting Maxey back vs Ingram and Nance (and probably Herb) still out.

Will probably end up as an EVEN line.

    FYI

    https://espnpressroom.com/us/press-r...on-january-11/

ESPN today announced an update to its upcoming NBA broadcast schedule. On Friday, January 6, the Brooklyn Nets and Kevin Durant will visit the New Orleans Pelicans and Zion Williamson at 7:30 p.m. ET. This matchup replaces the previously scheduled broadcast of the Chicago Bulls vs. Philadelphia 76ers game.

Billy and Jax look pretty good out there together... and CJ looks more confident when he is the clear number 1 option on the floor.

Jose just stole the ball from harden, ran the length of the floor for a layup, then drew a charge on him during the inbound pass. what a pest!

As much criticism as Devonte has received in the past, he has really improved in his role year 2. I trust him this time around with the ball

For sure. His role fits better this year too, last year we wanted him to be the starting PG.
