We'll trade the pick for Julius Randle
Good positive energy.
But also, yo mama's fat.
What's Mathurin's ceiling as a passer/ball handler? I really like his tape and think he would help our bench guard situation a lot. Looks like he can shoot and score, but if he can't spell CJ/Jose as a passer then that is tough.
Anything special on D? Seems like we don't draft guys who can't defend.
I feel like his role in Arizona was so focused on carrying the offensive shooting that it doesn't represent his defense all that well or better phrase would be... I feel his role was too hyper focused on scoring. If you put him in a role and environment that required him to do multiple things. His work ethic and his desire to play will and has shown that he can make leaps in his development. I only really worry about his handles, because it's really just a natural talent.

Updated odds from Caesars Sportsbook for the 2022 draft:
Dyson Daniels -360 odds of being selected over position 6.5
In other words, Vegas really thinks Daniels will be drafted 7 or later.
Benedict Mathurin +270 being selected over 6.5
Vegas believes a team will select Mathurin with pick 6 or earlier.
Shaedon Sharpe -190 being selected over 7.5
Vegas thinks Sharpe falls to pick 8 or later.

I do think Ben's best landing spot is a place where he has to fight for minutes and force him to be more multifaceted vs getting a fast track.
I can see why Ben is overrated by a lot of team, because his work ethic really shines through with a good personality and can shoot with tons of athleticism
He isn't a very developed ballhandler and he's not a very impressive passer.
The answer to any question about any of Mathurin's secondary/ancillary skills is that he can't right now. His entire sales pitch is that he's a good scorer with room to develop who is on a good development curve. I don't see him ever being a star, that upside seems very unlikely to me.
Basketball.
I'm glad the NBA draft is really fast paced. NFL and their greed completely ruin the experience.
Different taste for different folks. It's perfectly valid. Dae doesn't care for one dimensional players. Dae loves good passers. Ben is a very highly coveted movement shooter and that's a bit too rich for his lack of diversity in his skill set for him and other people too.
Which is 100% valid and objective.

Mathurin isn't an elite dribbler, doesn't have elite craft, doesn't have elite physical tools, isn't a nuclear shooting prospect (though I do think he'll be a good shooter), isn't a great passer, and isn't projecting as an elite defender.
He's a good-not-incredible scorer whose numbers were slightly inflated by his context/team-role who's very athletic. That's great but he's far more of a project than most people seem to acknowledge and when it comes to projects with incomplete games there are guys I like more (Daniels, for example) and when it comes to players who really have a more diversified skillset there are plenty too (Sochan, Tari).
Obviously I think that project has potential, or I wouldn't have him in the lottery at all, but I also don't think he's this top shelf guy.
If you think he can develop all the necessary skills at the next level.... Even if it's right. It's not objective.
It's like if someone was championing Giannis in 2013 draft season. Was teams wrong for not seeing him taking 5 years to develop into an MVP? No. It's a ridiculous assumption to make 5 years out.
You can't assume he'll develop. You got to reach a middle ground.

I believe everyone’s opinion is valid, I’m just saying IMO Mathurin not being in the top 10 floors me. On top of being a 3 level scorer, he is incredibly athletic with a work ethic to go with it. And I’m tired of the, pick a great defender and let Fred teach him to shoot. Why can’t it go the other way? Great shooter gets taught to defend. Like Mathurin can’t work and improve his handles? This team needs shooting and should be #1 priority, especially in today’s NBA. Mathurin has that and more!
Handles are notoriously one of the hardest things to improve. The list of players who go from poor-to-mediocre shooters to good shooters is long; the list of people who go from being terrible to good ballhandlers is much much shorter. Guys can spend decades in the league and not learn how to dribble; see Klay Thompson or Danny Green as examples.
What do Klay and Green have in common that allows them to be good despite having no ability to handle? Well, they're both incredible shooters (which I'm not confident Mathurin will be, though I think he'll be good) but they're also incredible defenders - at least were in their primes. Is Mathurin going to be a top shelf defender? I have no idea. He showed me nothing in college to think he will be, no real flashes. That doesn't mean it won't happen, but again, defense is one of the harder skills to teach and it's largely a coin flip with him. Maybe he's Jrue Holiday in his spare time but he never showed it on the court so how would I know?
As for whether this team ''needs shooting'', I don't think that's necessarily true (we have 3 guys that are good bets to be 38%+ from three in a given season and a few more solid NBA shooters after that) but drafting for need is usually a bad idea for reasons that have been discussed a million times by myself and others (McNamara is a big voice on this, actually).
As I just reported on our NBA Draft Show on ESPN, Duke's Paolo Banchero has joined Auburn's Jabari Smith under serious consideration to be franchise's No. 1 overall pick, sources said. There's a real chance draft boards could get blown up at the top of the lottery.

potential for some surprises at the top of the draft, apparently
Don’t understand how a team does not know who they are picking this late. They must be trying to milk something from another team.
I’m also low on Mathurin FWIW.
But I like Johnny Davis so what do I know.
Detroit has held ongoing conversations to find a second lottery pick in tonight's NBA Draft, sources said. Rival executives believe Memphis center Jalen Duren is the Pistons' primary target.

I feel like outside of Cade, the Pistons have drafted a centre every year since 1845
As the Orlando Magic move closer to getting on the clock, Duke's Paolo Banchero is now looming as a frontrunner to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, sources tell ESPN.
