It's a shame, but totally predictable, that the guy who impacted winning at worst the third most in the league amongst rookies was on the second team. Herb changed things for the Pels. Green was a losing player until the last 15 games.

    Still, congrats to Herb.

Now we are waiting for his all defense 1st team to be announced

I read an article somewhere, maybe on ESPN, and they listed the second team in order of the most votes, and Herb was the first person they named. So basically, 6th most votes for All Rookie team.

And 4 of the 5 ahead of him were the top 4 picks in the draft last year.

I totally understand why, but the fact that Green made first team over Herb is emblematic of a lot of the things wrong with how players are perceived.

Inefficient, lacking in impact, missed double digit games, no real defense? Well, that's fine cause you're a bucket.

Relatively efficient, elite impact for a rookie, played almost every game, arguably first team all D? Eh, boring, we'll throw you a second team selection.

Don't get me wrong, I think Green still has a clear road to being a really good player but just judging off this season alone - as rookie awards obviously are - there's no question that Herb was significantly better in his role than Green was in his.

That Houston team was an undisciplined mess full of talented ball players who collectively seemed clueless on how to play basketball as a team. Green included. It’s a cautionary tale of filling up your team with highly drafted ball players with great measurables but measly experience with actual basketball knowledge. Plus Eric Gordon and John Wall’s contract. Woof.

Counterpoint - Herbert Jones team was even worse than Green's before it added good, veteran players. When Ingram was hurt and/or before CJ, Herb was on quite possibly the worst team in the NBA.

Now, they added good players and so the team herb was on won. But how do you know that Green wouldnt have "contributed to winning" if he had good, veteran studs around him?

Its always murky there. Devin Booker doesnt contribute to winning, and then all of a sudden Chris Paul is added and he does, going to the NBA Finals and finishing top 5 in NBA voting while playing for the team with the best record in back to back years.

If we were Rockets fans, we would ask "Why should Green be penalized because of the awful roster?"

Just making the counter argument and questioning this whole "winning player" narrative that seems very dependent for sake of balance.

On the broadcast AD described Houston as "playing free" (aka street ball or worse), which is just a nice way of agreeing with you. But the plan was obviously for the current Houston team to lose (aka tank). They "won" and came in dead last. After a few lottery picks and getting of Gordon's and Wall's contracts they will get coached up.

    Congrats Herb!

I'm not gonna get a bit upset he was voted second team. He's a foundational piece to this team's future. I love Herb.

Pelicans fans can make that same argument for Herb (pre-CJ). I'm just happy herb is getting recognized. We didn't play a ton of national games, so the public probably didn't know who the heII Herb was until the play-in/playoffs.

Maybe we'll get more exposure next year especially with Zion coming back.

The only noteworthy thing was 9 people left Herb off and 1 left Franz off. Just another reason among the very long list on why the voting system needs tweaks
    Welcome to be here

That’s an ingenious plan. Draft a lot of promising young talent, coach them down into becoming awful basketball players, so they can keep drafting promising young talent.

Herb should have absolutely made 1st team over Green. But the people that vote do not do deep dives, and it absolutely devolves into a rather predictable and safe popularity contest for that headline 1st team.

Jalen Green was never going to have to do as much as Herb to make 1st.

That said nice to see a couple guys I really liked in last year's draft, Dosunmu and Duarte, also make 2nd team.
