    Wash. Rinse. Repeat...

We have been preparing for the future for the last decade with little or no progress. In fact, we are regressing.

Hindsite is 20/20 but hiring Van Gundy last year set us back another 5 years. But what do I know?

I, too, said that SVG was a bad hire when he took the reins. But, perhaps we owe him an apology.

    Why?

Because he was arguably playing with less talent than Willie has now...and playing better. Everybody seems to think that Graham is a better fit than Lonzo. Most believe that Jonas is an upgrade from Adams. Everybody 'knew' that NAW was better than Bledsoe. Herb is the best defensive specialist since Jrue. The consensus is that we have better shooters this year compared to last.

So, now, Willie gets a pass with, arguably, more talent in his toolbox than SVG?

"Fandom" is a odd concept, indeed!!

FULL DISCLOSURE: I'm still glad SVG is back in the broadcast booth (and I bet SVG is, too).

This is just a dumb take, SVG had a healthy Zion to start the season. It really shows how bad SVG was because we where one of the healthiest teams at the start of last season. You give Willie a healthy Zion and BI like Van Gundy had last year and the start of this season would look totally different.

Ahhh, but according to most (yourself included), neither Zion, (unless your name is really, dae) or BI can play a lick of defense. So what you gain on one side of the court, you lose on the other.

And, don't you have to play with the hand that is dealt to you?

The thing is Graham and Jonas being better than Bledsoe and Adams... It's not going to be game changing better. Just like this... NBA isn't like the 90s or early 2000s where you can be a contender with a couple of Superstars. You need an 8 man squad full of killers. We don't have that.

Being healthy doesn't change that. Just like being healthy last year... We was still a losing team. We are still a losing team healthy or not.

Just because we got young guys with great athletic scores. It doesn't mean they are talented at basketball. Basketball is as much a mental accuity as it is athletic. Basketball talent is both those things not just raw athletic scores.

I have no idea the point you are trying to make, I responded to a post about how Willie should be getting heat because this team has more talent than the team Stan had last year so I responded with Stan having a healthy Zion to start the season. Who is talking about us being a contender? Is Zion was healthy we would have a similar team to Portland and the mavs and Kings which is vastly different to where we are right now.

The point I'm trying to make is that the team isn't talented. It wasn't last year. It's not this year. It's freaking not. It hasn't been since 2018. We have talented players... Sure. Very few of them. Is there noticeable difference from last year... Not enough to make a valid argument. We aren't the Mavs, Portland, or Kings... We are the Pelicans. If you sit down and watch any other team. The talent gap is glaring.

So... The whole SVG vs. Willie argument is redundant as they are both are trying to duct tape a passable product on the floor. Did SVG had more success? Initially... Yes. More experience coach with a healthy squad on day one. As soon Steven Adams started getting hurt. The wheels fell off, because we lack talent depth. In the end does it matter? No.

Admittedly, some people have had their rose colored glasses darkened over the past week or so, but I will bet anything that the second the team lucks into a win or two, or a random scrub has a great game or two, the optimism will return. Instead, everyone should just realize that Herb is the only great thing your franchise has going for it!!
And I stand by what I said because that's what I believed.

You aren't Mac. But you're being a weird optimism vampire like he did at times. The clich? of "A pessimist is what an optimist calls a realist" is strong in this one.

And yeah. Without our horses, it's rough out there. You see Devonte Graham make a good move, get to the top of the key and whip the ball to the outside, an absolute on target dime to...Garrett Temple. He made the shot, as I remember, but blegh. He's getting a lot of minutes and we can't get rid of him. It is what it is. Oh well. Suck it up and struggle forward, Sisyphus. The myth will be over soon.

Glad you at least admit you said it because the dudes above said I was a liar and nobody was talking like that. And no, I’m not this other dude others are talking about. I just like another team more in another sport and they actually win games and titles and their fans aren’t even as high on their team as some of you are about this terrible team and franchise.

And now people are acting like they weren’t saying that stuff. Weren’t saying NAW would win MIP a month ago or that Trey could be in the running for ROY. Look, man, optimism, pessimism, realism, I don’t care what you call what. People should just speak the truth. Ain’t nobody 5 years old year. Why we talking fairy tales and Santa?

If it helps, many years ago I purchased a 12-game package...the Hornets went 0 and 12. Yet, I keep coming back for more. I just feel that I am starting to break now and can't imagine the more casual fan even consider paying any amount of money to see this product. And it's more than a monetary decision too; it's the amount of time you have to dedicate going to a game or even watching on TV.

    But what do I know?

The fact that you have to justify to these guys not wanting to pay money for a bad product is crazy. Like, would you continue to watch a horrible tv show or order from a terrible restaurant that leaves you disappointed 90% of the time? People always say "sports is a business". Well, if that business is terrible, why do you have to justify staying loyal to it? Seriously, think about it like any other business in the world. Would you tolerate this from any other business? From your bank? Your phone doesnt get a signal 90% of the time but when you call customer service they say "Don't worry sir, we are going to be really bad for the next year or two, but then we will get a fantastic satellite as a result in the phone carriers draft and that satellite will be amazing 4 or 5 years after we get it. So, just wait until then and you will get excellent service!! (If we don't trade that satellite before then, or if it doesnt break down)

I think my point was at some point even people moderately interested in the Pelicans will, eventually say "enough". At an even less engaged level, i think people have already reached that point. They lose the majority of the people on this board, who are way more engaged than me, then it is over.

I don't know how the salary caps works or luxury tax, but something radical needs to been done. I cannot tolerate another season of poor play. I've already sat through years of it. A mid-week game against the Thunder will be a real sign. Sorry if I did not explain myself clearly enough.

It's kind of obvious many of you aren't older Saints fans. Talk about learning patience with a team and being rewarded with the ultimate payoff. I would honestly rather a crap team in the city than no team at all. Because its still our team. Seattle would take our crap team in a heartbeat. OKC attempted to take them. I don't want a crap team but it's the one we've got. I'm willing to stick with them for the long haul. Eventually they will figure it out and at least be competitive. I'm okay with having a team that plays hard and is competitive. Other than the last game we've had that so far this year with major injury problems.

In short, I will never throw in the towel. If watching makes you so miserable, do something else. I enjoy watching every game. Even the losses. If you can't enjoy it find a different hobby or pull for a different team. Or continue to be miserable. It's all a choice.

If you don't like this team, and don't watch this team, what is your investment in being on this forum?

be careful. If you keep saying stuff like his Herbjonesfan will scold you for being a *checks notes* fan of *checks notes* a sports franchise. How dare you support your local sports team, P_B_&_G!, for shame, for shame
