What’s interesting about FVV (and Lowery for that matter) is that neither were highly thought of players. FVV was an UDFA, Lowery was a last first round pick who was on his third team. Both guys could be had, but it took a guys like Casey (and then Nurse) to get the most out of them in their systems. The right coaching can bring out the best in a player, or it will see you selling off a decent player for pennies on the dollar (TJ Warren).
If you Jimmer it, they will come.

    This is true

Get a coach- let him bring create his system and culture

Eric spoelstra is another good example. Gets the best out of his players. Nunn and Duncan's robinson neither was drafted yet play and help the heat with solid minutes. People questioned why would butler leave philly a more talented team to go to Miami , but spoelstra has a winning culture and system so it worked fine

Not entirely sure if this is true of Lowry because I wasn't really watching basketball in the 2000s when he was first drafted, but with Van Vleet, Siakam (who was a late pick), and now guys like OG Anunoby, the Raptors really need to be praised for their stellar development. Guys just get better in Toronto.
    Basketball.
