Thread: All Time Favourite 5?

    All Time Favourite 5?

Given that the games are over and we're currently stuck with watching older games back or watching nothing at all, a lot of people on NBA Twitter have been doing some all-time discussions, some prospect evaluation, etc etc, to cover for the lack of ongoing NBA activity.

One of the discussions which has come up, that I find particularly interesting, is this one: what is your all time favourite starting 5? That is, not necessarily the all time best starting 5, where you're basically required to choose certain players for certain spots (Jordan at SG, for example) but the 5 guys that you enjoy/enjoyed watching most.

So, I figured that it could be kind of interesting if people on the board gave their lists: what's your All Time Favourite Starting 5?

    Here's mine:

    PG: Steve Nash
    SG: Jrue Holiday
    SF: Lebron James
    PF: Zion Williamson
    C: David Robinson

And hey, screw it, list a 6th man too: I'm going Manu Ginobili.

There are a few caveats surrounding my team (I've gone with Zion despite him only playing 19 games because he's been fantastically fun to watch and I loved him at Duke as well, but I acknowledge it's super premature), but I think it would be a fun team to watch.

If I was designing the team to be 'better', with a better distribution of skills, rather than just purely based on who I enjoy watching, I would probably move Lebron to PF and insert someone like Durant at the 3, to add some shooting; Jrue, Lebron, Zion, Admiral is not exactly a sharp-shooting roster.

Nash and Lebron on the same team though? The passing would be just absurd. And Lebron would finally be able to sit without his team's offense falling to pieces

Why reluctantly? It's a favourites list, if you don't enjoy him then you don't have to put him on

Dang, I forgot Shaq and the Dream. Can I put Timmy at small forward? Here's my all big lineup.

    Point Guard: Demarcus Cousins
    Shooting Guard: Zion Williamson
    Small Forward: Tim Duncan
    Power Forward: Hakeem Olajuwon
    Center: Shaquille O'Neal

A team with the combined weight equal to the average 15 man roster

I was talking more about Cousins and Shaq. Those two are like what, 600lbs together?

I love his play in the 96 foot rectangle, but I can't stand his 'King James' persona.

    PG - Paul
    SG - Maravich
    SF - Bird
    PF - Williamson
    C - Abdul-Jabbar

Thought about Truck Robinson but went with Zion. Jordan, Mashburn, AD, Malone, Gervin, Magic and Havlicek were all possibilities as well.

    C - Bill Russell
    SF - Larry Bird
    PF - Zion
    SG - Pete Maravich
PG - John Havlichek (was really a SF/SG)

    Sixth man - Shaq

    Second Team
    Positionless
    Robert Parrish
    Kevin McHale
    Paul Pierce
    David Robinson
    Tim Duncan
    Sixth man - George Gervin

I grew up a Celtics fan, so I could have named Sam Jones, KC Jones, Bailey Howell and other Celtics to a "favorite" team. I enjoyed watching a lot of talented players over the years, but I just couldn't list them on a team of favorites. Anthony Davis and Chris Paul were disqualified from the list for petty reasons and I didn't list any of the most recent Pelicans/Hornets mostly because they have frustrated me almost as much as I have enjoyed them.

    PG: Nash
    SG: AI
    SF: Tony Allen
    PF: Barkley
    C: Chris Andersen

    Sixth Man: Pat Bev

I'm doing a 2nd team, just for fun.

    PG: Chris Paul
    SG: Dwyane Wade
    SF: Andrei Kirilenko
    PF: Bobby Jones
    C: Hakeem Olajuwon

    6: Marcus Smart

The defense on this team would be beyond ridiculous but the shooting would be dreadful. Kind of similar to my first team in some ways. Maybe I have a type.

Neither, Paul, Maravich , nor Davis has delivered anything but meaningless stats. While some believe in a player's personal numbers, others, in his/her Championships.

    But, it's all good!!!

It's that the Hornets unashamedly quit so quickly in Game 4 after fans in New Orleans showed up this season with greater regularity than the team could have ever dreamed, shaming misinformed know-it-alls like me who kept telling you that local residents couldn't possibly invest their time and money into something as trivial as rooting for the local basketball team while still recovering from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. - Mark Stien ESPN
