Lonzo has been really bad. He's only 12 games in but the returns have been awful. He can't create offense, his passing has been pretty unimpressive, and his defense has regressed---he made a defensive impact for the Lakers, but he has been a negative for us on that end.
Being given and taking early shot clock 3s also makes the offense disjointed. I think it's fine for him to shoot open shots in the flow of the offense, but he is not consistent enough to make a team pay for leaving him open. He shoots aggressively like he's JJ Redick, but he is about as good a shooter as Kenrich Williams.

I think it's too early given how weird and banged up we have been (I don't think there is any real value) to making final judgments on any of the young guys, and maybe Zion unlocks some aspect of his passing that makes him useful on offense. But it's not been good.

This team plays so well for very long stretches and then gets burnt horribly in a small amount of time. Every game. It's a good sign in that, no, they are not awful. But it's immensely frustrating.

I mean, the one real positive you can find is that we don't take many shots in the paint, especially in clutch time. Zion, at least, will fix that: he will be on court to close games, and he won't settle for stupid 3s. So the clutch offense should be better.

I don't really think it matters what Gentry's plan A is. If Zion's on the court, he will attack the rim, and he will score. Redick's said himself; this is a free form offense. As long as everyone else is happy to chuck up 3s, I don't think Zion's going to stop driving and I don't think Gentry's going to tell him to either.

The team gets open looks, but they can't shoot so how will Zion help that?

Come on now. You take away any teams best player and they aren’t that good. Take away Giannis and tell me if the Bucks are a 1 dead. Take Lebron or AD away from the Lakers and see how good they are consistently. Embiid from Sixers, Harden from Rockets. Not saying Zion is on their level yet but he is that important to our team especially considering we have no PFs to help out.

Coaching can't correct Frank Jackson and Lonzo failing to communicate who was guarding the damn ball carrier. There was barely even an offensive action to get confused on.

We're a top 5 shooting team in the NBA this season. Using tonight as the standard as if that's what normally happens is silly.

That said, even if they do pack the paint, Zion will still drive, and he'll still finish. Defenses packed the paint when he was at Duke too because there was literally not a single shooter on that team, an he still shot 70+% at the rim. That's just elite finishing for you.

I'm not saying that this will suddenly make us win a ton of games or anything, it won't. But Zion will score in the paint, which will improve our thusfar dismal paint scoring. Not a real crazy claim of me to make there.
