To be fair, I think he was trying to hide Kyrie on defense. Bledsoe, Giannis, and Middleton would eat him up, Lopez is just too big. Mirotic is kind of a last resort. Unfortunately for him, Niko is a sniper and can just shoot over him. Lol

Part of the problem is that Kyrie just can't defend anyone, anywhere, but at least if you had him guard Bledsoe, he's not disadvantaged by size. When you have him guarding Mirotic or Giannis, you're just asking him to be bad.

Yep, also got to consider fit and chemistry. Celtics are playing with a team of young guys who did fantastically last year, who have been artificially pushed into a minority role alongside Kyrie Irving, who is toxic to them and has made it clear that he doesn't like playing with them, and doesn't like the fact that they achieved without him last year. It makes everyone on the team worse, Kyrie included.
