SO! To sum up the night:

Spurs vs Wizards - We WANTED the Wizards to win, they didn't.
Heat vs Timberwolves - We WANTED Miami to lose, and they did lose!
Grizzlies vs Mavericks - We wanted Memphis to win, and they did!
Lakers vs Clippers -We wanted the Lakers to win, and they did!
Pelicans vs Suns - We wanted to lose, and we did!

    4 for 5! Almost a perfect night.
    Basketball.

If Memphis beats Dallas again & Wash. & Pels tank successfully , Memphis just kept their 2021 pick & we will get their pick this year from Boston.

Assuming Boston and New Orleans reach a deal, which I think is fairly likely... New Orleans could easily be better off if Memphis finishes 8 rather than 9. The future Memphis pick is more valuable staying in the future. If it makes it past 2020, 2021 is the double strength draft.

Of course, even if Memphis finishes 9th, there's still about a 20% chance they move up to the top 4 in the lottery and the pick rolls forward that way. There are so many moving parts to this.

Also, if Memphis Pixk moves to 2021, there is NO guarantee that Ainge gives it up. But if amemphis moves to 9, I guarantee we get that pick this year.
Yeah, you are correct, many moving parts. Memphis may want to lose the pick this year. Memphis May think the 6-8th pick this year won't help them at all & they'd rather keep the 2021 pick. We shall see.

^^^One more thing on that Memphis pick from the Boston perspective: If the Celtics beat Orlando tomorrow, they clinch homecourt in the first round. Their last game Tuesday is against Washington who is "battling" Memphis for that critical 8-9 spot. Boston might decide to rest everybody possible for that final game in an attempt to hand Washington a win and push Memphis to 9.

It's actually pretty funny. Two teams are hoping to avoid receiving a lottery pick. Memphis wants to complete their obligation this year, so they're winning all they can to avoid keeping the pick now. Boston doesn't want the pick to convey this year, so they're rooting for Memphis losses.

Booker isn't injured, hasn't been injured, hasn't played any post-season minutes, WON'T play any post-season minutes so he doesn't need that rest, is still super young. It's absurd.
