The New Orleans Saints lost 31-21 to the St. Louis Rams on Sunday, a surprising outcome considering the Rams had yet to win a game prior, and the Saints were coming off a legendary stomping of Indianapolis the previous Sunday. Perhaps Drew Brees should have saved some of his magic for St. Louis, where he tossed a couple picks, including one that was returned for a game-sealing touchdown.

Brees was dreadful behind center, getting his only touchdown pass with 10 seconds left and the game already out of reach. He didn’t eclipse 300 yards for the first time in his last six games and was sacked a season high six times. Does Drew have a twin brother? I’m fairly sure this couldn’t be the same guy who had a God-like performance last Sunday in the Dome.

The Saints three-headed running back monster was again completely ineffective on the ground. They combined for 57 yards on 19 rushes (3 ypc). One has to wonder why the master of offense, Sean Payton, has been unable to get results out of the versatile trio. Sproles was again a factor in the passing game, but the Saints need someone to get rolling on the ground if they want to challenge the top tier teams in the NFC.

On the other side of the ball Steven Jackson ran wild on the Saints, recording a season high 159 yards on 25 touches to go with two touchdowns and 32 more yards receiving. One would think the Saints knew heading in that St. Louis would lean heavily on Jackson, but apparently they didn’t get the memo that’s the only offensive threat on that team.
