Fletch reported yesterday Willie wants the job.
I am hoping it?s Green. Would be a home run hire IMO.
Dont know. Dont care.
What I wont do is pretend to know who will be good and who wont. When you get older you become okay with saying you have no idea and are fine with that
Go get Green Grif! He knows the city , knows the people, and probably can relate to Zion and players .
I would love to see the alternative universe where the Suns lost in the first round and then see our fans reactions to him possibly getting the job
i don't know how y'all even do it lmao.
yea this is my issue, kinda like the logic behind the Gentry hiring, just grab an assistant on a highly successful team. What could go wrong?
Maybe Lee and Green are both great HC material, I really have no idea, I just don't like the process of how the pelicans ended up here. Kinda looks like they have no idea what they are doing from the outside.
The Pelicans are doing fine. They didnt get to Green and Lee because of results of their teams. Those guys were on the list from the jump. FANS all of a sudden thinking they are elite candidates because of results is what I laugh at. Remember the Heat assistant a lot of people wanted last year? Wheres his name this year?
No. Not Willie Green. lol I'd rather Vinson. For some reason I hate Green and can't remember why, but that's good enough for me.
If CP3 and, Davis, and Holiday would have stayed here , How many Larry O’Brien’s we would own?
Nobody should be the "top choice" of fans - because fans have no ability to get insight on coaches. For players, you can watch film, see them play and have a fairly educated opinion. 95% or more of what a coach does goes on behind the scenes. And beyond that, you cant even judge a coach by the plays he draws up because you dont know if the player followed directions, and thats even before the randomness of the result of the players shot, pass, etc.
I have no top choice. I have no idea who will be good, who won't, and how much the head coach even matters.
The confidence that the team has in Griff will be shown in the length and money spent on this next HC hire.
A part of me wonders how comfortable the team is with this next hire given they set nearly $20.0MM on fire by firing Gentry and SVG. Does the team want to commit so much to a new hire who will be hired by a guy who might be on his way out if the team misses the playoffs? More than likely if Griff is fired the new GM might want to bring in his own guy (unless he is forced to keep the new HC ala Griff with Gentry). The team will obviously need to invest in a new coach, I just wonder how much do they want to invest, and for how long. Is that one of the hold ups in this process? Either the team hasn’t settled on risk safeguards yet, or has the offer been extended, and the candidates are mulling it over?
If this next hire is a David Culley level hire, then that will tell us all we need to know about the team’s confidence in Griff. The team won’t allow him to spend good money on a decent hire, and he is conveying that to potential candidates when he is extending the offer.
Griff is not making this decision - at least not alone. That privledge has already been taken away. He has a say, and his voice will be heard obviously, but it is a consensus pick after multiple people in the organization meet with the candidates
I wonder who will sit on that HC hiring panel. Are we going to see Mickey or Dennis sit in on it (as they would with the Saints)? Do Joe Dumars or Avery Johnson sit in the panel (as Gayle has comfort with them)? Who are the ones pulling the strings on this hire? If it’s not just Griff, who are the ones that the team has confidence in to make this call?
Don?t go by what MM is saying . This is much more logical . SHAMIT EVEN RETWEETED IT
Some quick Pelicans updates before I watch the game:
— Fletcher Mackel (@FletcherWDSU) July 4, 2021
-Ownership has unwavering support for David Griffin (and Trajan Langdon, Swin Cash).
-Willie Green and Charles Lee are sole focus of head coach search right now.
-Green and Pels are ?very serious? about each other. pic.twitter.com/hRz94XfLtd
So the team is letting Griff and crew make the coaching decision, or will it truly be a panel making the call. It has to be a pretty broad panel (if that is the way they are going) as Griff’s hires will most likely be shown the door with him (if he is fired). So who else is on this panel?
I have inside information that Willie Green thinks Yogi Bear is a “pretty good” movie. His judgement cannot be trusted. He will lead us to desolation and ruin. Or a fresh picnic basket.
Jrue Holiday right now collecting his bonuses today

You throwing Shamit under the bus now?
Fletcher has been on top of this https://t.co/3uZY3kXmYp

It is what it is. We will just have to deal with who is hired. On that note look at how Boston hired their coach with PLAYER INPUT! Imagine that!
Udoka separated himself quickly in Brad Stevens' search process, including significant support from Celtics players who were impressed with Udoka after working under him with Team USA in the World's. https://t.co/87p0Q02tkS

The players supporting him is icing. Lagniappe. Nothing matters until games get played. Lose and it won't matter how many players like him before they signed him.
Waiting for the Pelicans press release saying it’s false.
Why do you hate Fletch so much? Do he steal your lunch or something?
It is what it is. The question will be will Zion accept it? Lee or Green or Mark Jackson (Yeah his name came up again), or Dantoni, or Master P etc.
While I’m at it Congrats to Master P’s son. Maybe one day he will be a future Pelican.
If the Pelicans are still ****** this time next year you won't have to hand me a pitchfork. I'll be passing them out.

So, to wrap up. Why not freak out this year?

The Pelicans didn't push their chips in. They've been collecting them and waiting to see what they need and how much it costs. This summer they have enough assets to swing, and enough information to know what to swing for.

Some guy that can win his 3rd title over some guy from Wall Street. The bright side to Lee as he probably can do some good swaps&trades. Maybe he needs to be in front office too.Quote:
Over the last five years, Green has apprenticed under two of the game’s best head coaches, Steve Kerr and Monty Williams. He won two titles and went to three championships when he was with the Golden State Warriors. Now, in his second season as the Suns’ associate head coach, he has a chance to win a third.
Green’s playing background also makes him an attractive candidate. A second-round pick in 2003, he lasted 12 years in the NBA. In 2010, he joined the Hornets in what was Williams’ first and Paul’s last years with the team.
Lee never played in the NBA, but he was a college star at Bucknell who had a brief professional career in Europe. He then spent two years as an equities trader on Wall Street before getting into coaching. Mike Budenholzer gave Lee his start in the NBA. Budenzholer brought Lee aboard with the Atlanta Hawks then took Lee with him when he went to the Milwaukee Bucks.
Going with either Green or Lee would mean selecting a first-time head coach at a critical juncture. The Pelicans have finished in 13th and 11th place in the Western Conference since drafting Zion Williamson No. 1 overall. The team’s next head coach will deal with pressure to guide New Orleans to the postseason right away.
This year’s Finals are flush with former Pelicans. With Green and Lee involved, it looks likely that future Pelicans will be a part of it, too.
Well I think it is a forgone conclusion that the Pels have their new coach, and are waiting until he is available.
The way I see it, is that it is a given that coach is on the staff of either the Bucks or Suns.
The search is over, now we just have to wait until the finals are over to find out who. I think it is Lee.

It very well could be Lee. I’m sure the Benson corporation loved that he has a Wall Street background. It might be him. We shall see.
It will be Green
What does having a Wall Street background do with the NBA.
So he can be a snake oil salesman like Griff?
