Seems like we keep drafting guys that never play and keep trading our 1st rounders away in perpetuity? With the exception of AD and he fell into our lap.Quote:
What's up with Frank Jackson, anyway?

Right...so this isn’t actually an update then...
I thought I was going to get a real update *sobs in Pels life*
Been watching highlight vids. If he played like that through a injury, there’s no telling what he’s capable of when healthy.
Very excited for this kid to play for this team. He could be exactly what we need on the bench and be a huge boost. He reminds me a lot of CJ McCollum but a better defender and athlete. Kid can absolutely jump out the gym with a 42" vert while he had a foot injury. His explosion and strength makes him dangerous around the rim as a finisher. Has a knockdown 3 point shot with one of the smoothest strokes you will see. Has a very solid frame at 6'4 205 with a 6'7.5" wingspan. I'm a Duke fan and kid is one of the more talented guards I have seen come through there with a ton of potential. Really surprised he has been talked about less but I think that will all change once he comes back. If he can be that scoring guard off the bench going forward then this team is one good starter away from being a real problem in this league. Add a starting caliber wing along a scoring big for the bench and this team is ready to take on anybody for the next few years.
So, is there any remote update on when he will be back?
Last update was mid December and he was supposed to be back by mid Jan. I'm not sure if he's had a set back or if they are just playing it extremely cautious. We've seen Hill get shots up, I don't think we've seen Jackson not in a suit. It's a bit concerning at this point.
The closest thing we've had to an update was about a week ago when someone mistook Charles Cooke getting reassigned to a different GLeague team with Cooke getting cut, McNamara checked with his team sources and tweeted this out.
Greensboro is not that far away from Duke so it would make a lot of sense that they'd want Jackson to play for them.Quote:
Pelicans Will Keep Their 2018 Pick @SilverAndMac
I was partly right
"Frank is gonna come back soon and will go to Greensboro. Cooke likely won't get called back much, if at all, this year. Want to get him as many minutes as possible."
Hopefully that's right.

The team is purposely taking it slow with him to prevent a re-injury. In the meantime he is being tutored by Rondo, Drew and Jameer to learn the mental aspects of the game. Link to the Times Pic story above from about 2 weeks ago. Reading between the lines, if we are still in a position to make the playoffs around March or so, he will probably be playing then. Otherwise, they will probably shut him down and make sure he's good to go for next season. We all just need to be patient.
Frank goes to church with a couple of posters on this board. One of them told me that he is walking without a boot, but I am not sure if that puts him on track to play in the next few weeks. Apparently he really likes the city, and he really likes getting out and working with people in the community. Quite interesting considering he is only 19.
Last time I saw Jackson he was going to the photo center at Costco, but he had that rolling cart thing. But this was in friggin' November. I knew it wouldn't be till januray that he was up and shooting. I figure he's totally about to find his way on the field...
Still the thread threw me. I thought some real news came down...
I remember seeing Ryno and Withey at Costco with a guy that looked like a friend. We checked out at the same time as them, and I saw them get into a Mercedes sedan, and Withey got in the damn back seat. Cold blooded.
He was engaged to a playboy playmate, so his life doesn't completely suck...or maybe it does.
Look behind Rondo around 2:00. That's all I got.
Is that Jackson and Hill?
I can hear Hill and Jackson tickling the twine. Swish!

Just found this on reddit.. Looks like he's able to plant off that foot and shoot with No pain. Could be a good sign for a return soon
per rotoworld:
Frank Jackson said he has been increasing his rehab activity recently, including some spot shooting and lifting weights.
Jackson, the No. 31 overall pick in the 2017 draft, underwent successful surgery to repair a fifth metatarsal fracture in his right foot back on September 1st. He was initially expected to miss 3-4 months. He is hopeful that he can return to the court in January. However, even when fully healthy, Jackson will have a difficult time securing consistent playing time in the Pelicans crowded backcourt.
I'd hardly call our backcourt crowded in a talent sense. If Jackson is a true talent when it comes to scoring, he can add a dimension to our bench we just don't have.
Exactly! We have a crowded back court but if the kid shows he's ready he very possibly could be the 1st guard off the bench.. guys like Nelson and Rondo are 2 very good vets to help this kid learn the game. I think Jackson is going to be a very good player for this team. Has the potential to be a CJ McCollum clone just a much better athlete and defender.
Honestly my goal for the guy is to just be a better version of Ian Clark.
I'm not really expecting starter material out of the guy, especially not in his rookie or sophomore season. If by this time next year he can give us what Ian Clark has done, that is good in my book.
Nelson is a very good vet to have as an end of the bench who on most nights doesn't see minutes. but can provide a nice spark while helping mentor someone like Jackson.
I think some people are under rating this kids athleticism and defensive ability. He is no doubt one of the more explosive leapers in the NBA with potential to be a very good defender. He already had one of the prettier shots I have seen and since working on shooting has basically been all he has done since he got here he should shoot 40%+ from the 3 all day. Really can't wait for this kid to come back. IMO he will show very quickly he is our 3rd best guard. Without the injury he would have been a potential lotto pick as a freshman.
